So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself. I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it. This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs). Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.
So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.
I'll get us started. I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit. Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something? Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out? It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway). You get IP (favor points) for every game you play. You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc. It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.
As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names). I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters. It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times). There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell). I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so). Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.
Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand. Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing. Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.
Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve. I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games). The strats often sound idiotic to me. But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done. My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time. Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend. I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point. We should organize some LoL games and some DG games. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.
heh - any game where you have 20k gets a wee be interesting, eh? Super tanky fun indeed.
Another cold, rainy, smeh day in Ohio here. Had a fun weekend though. Got to meet Adam West and Burt Ward (the batman and robin from that campy series in the 70's). That was quite entertaining - I even heard Adam West (he also does the mayor's voice on Family Guy) say this: "Robin - look out. That giant pussy may be radioactive." Delightful.
Anyway, I went to the mid ohio comicon. Might make another post with some pictures and a little commentary. Was very entertaining and there were plenty of unique co-players there.
Been playing AP gragas some lately. He's really easy to use and excellent at holding any lane solo and pushing towers. I've also found his ult to be highly useful for ganking and deflecting ganks. Been hit and miss as I'm still a bit inexperienced, though. Anyway, lots of random games played. Also started working through rage. And although its not exactly going to redefine any genre, I've been having some fun with it.

so... 5 million in cash prizes for season 2 of LoL. Pacov still really wants to create a formal team. I know its a pipe dream, but if our good buddy wallstop (from dg) can play against CLG with his team, I have hopes that some of us could pull it off.
Cool stuff with season 2 - it sounds like spectator mode is going to be opened up. This means you can watch good players live and learn from them. Not sure how this will be implemented, but that's an awesome feature to study players that you respect and learn from them.
You really need to start playing ranked if you want to play at higher levels. Once you get out of low ELO its a much higher level of play and people actually use strategy a lot more. Normal is plagued with people not caring about strategy and playing champs that they dont normally play (which is what I normally do, LOL).
It would be time to start thinking about getting into high level organized games once you can get to say a 1600 rating in ranked or so.
ok
Picked up vlad - on sale for RP the next few days. Noticed Nid was on sale and picked her up as well. Vlad is fun, but I'm not super great with. I played about 3 games vs ai to get a feel for how he worked. I did fine, but I'm not digging his ult even against AI. That's a bad sign for me. He has strong nuking potential, at least, but I don't see him as being as valuable as others. Started trying to play as garen. Haven't really picked up a solid play style - have tried tanky and AD - nothing really fits right, but it will take a bit for me to get solid play style. Happy to say that I'm getting sick of grag after about a week or so of maining him. I cannot tell you how many times over a week that I've been stuck top lane, just going back and forth with someone for like 15 minutes. Super boring. But its like I can't kill someone without a jungle and they can't ever kill me due to my passive. So - its just mega farm over and over and over. SOOOOOOO freaking boring. I feel like I'm pretty solid with grag now at least, though, but I'm not overly excited about playing him again soon.
Super fun top lanes though Paco!
its ok. Play with me more, I take one for the team and solo top. Not like I get a choice b/c of my champ selection
woot - win 200 tonight!
tagging to remember to update - several fun games tonight.
Man... I really need to make posts when I'm thinking of it... pretty sure I forgot a good chunk of what I wanted to jibber jabber about.
Let's see... broke 200 wins like i mentioned. Picked up MR runes as I didn't have any. I've been trying out a lot of characters that I'm quite mediocre with. It was pretty much a loss fest for me and my team for a bit while I tried this and that. My nidalee is easily my worst character by far though. I have no practical idea of how to use her appropriately (but she was on sale last week so I picked her up). It was really bad - I know how all of her abilities work, but I simply don't have intelligent strategy in my mind outside of spears hurt a lot at max range. Shame she has substantially more options than "throw a spear."
Some team has been trying to headhunt me to play as part of their team, but I'm not exactly sure that I want to get involved with the goofs. I'd love to be on a team, though, but from the game I played with a few them awhile back, they just struck me as bad. Anyway, they are called team MIA. If it was team AFK, I might be more interested.
Anyone know who "the shaman" is on lagwars vent? I can't remember if that's kalel or what. I usually just disable private messaging in vent to avoid random pms but I forgot to.
Had many fun team games lately. Easily my favorite games were playing as singed and gragas. I loved how karl played his jungle rammus. I was top lane vs 2 and he kept coming in at just the right time to setup kills. We'd trade karl for 2 kills a couple of times, but after that, I was able to manhandle the top lane solo with grag. Then, there were my "running around like a jackass" singed games. I certainly had my share of fun, but I was goofing off way too much.... to the point of intentionally running into 4 of them (I had like 4200 hp) just to see if they could kill me. Guess what? They could. Anyway, silly games, but singed is so easy to use for farm/harass/gank, etc. Love it.
Anyway, there ends my random blah blah. Been playing with many of you folks (haven't seen carbon in a bit). I think I'm fairly consistently getting games in with Karl, which I like, as he's a very good teammate.
edit - characters that I feel like I can play like a boss now - Gragas, Brand, AP sion, galio, singed. I'm sure I'm still pretty good with mundo, but I haven't played him or akali in some time.
Thunder's Pro Nidalee Tip Of The Day:
Wait until she's buffed in the next patch to play her.
pacov's pro Nidalee tip of the day:
pacov should not play Nidalee ever.
Yeah, apparently you're allergic to champs that aren't AP based.
yeah - no kidding. I can do a passable graves, but that's about it ad land. Same with jungle trundle - can jungle just fine w him
last game of the night was smeh - played with karl and 1 of his buds (never played with before). Anyway, his bud had a less than stellar game and we had the worst tryn on earth - eg the type that has 1/15/2 stats and blames everyone for his failure. I muted the idiot after about 4 minutes knowing it was just going to be a troll fest. Anyway, karl and I played solid. Our singed did well also. Karls buddy and idiot tryn did not do quite as well. Anyway, it was fun at least... I wasted at least 3 of my ults saving our dumb tryd (honestly, his main problem was not realizing that he was crap and that he just needed to be more cautious early - also he is retarded and complained that i was under leveled when I was 7 and he was 5 - note that pacov muted immediately after that comment ). Anyway, it still was fun. So happy we had a good singed, but perhaps it would have been better if we didn't. Game would have ended sooner.
Anyway, used IP to buy my last 1350 character (so now I have everyone 1350 and below). I'm currently not giving a rip about ip, so hopefully that lasts a bit... that way I won't blow any more money on IP bonuses.
are 4-day IP bonuses worth it?
I'm going up to sTeven's on Thursday and it's like 560 RP right? And we'll probably play a bunch but...
would you really get like 6000 IP from that bonus?
hmm... mayhaps forums ate my post - quick summary of my longer winded reply - If you have some time to dedicate to it, the 4 day bonus is worth it. I easily got anywhere from 4.5k-6k ip out of it. I think you get around 175-200 ip per game total for a win - plus your first game of the day bonuses. That can add up pretty quickly (as long as you are winning and if you are lucky enough to have multiple 20 min games).
side note - I think I handled your pal steve ok during that one game the other day. I know you said he can be a little sensitive, so hopefully the way I spoke to him came across kind. I think it did, anyway.
alright I'll think about it then. Depends how much we drink I guess he has an entire bottle of Grey Goose for me
But yeah he was alright I think, he didn't say anything to me about it, other than feeling like he would try to follow you and die (and not realizing that is par for the course with playing with pacov ). He ended up raging pretty hard core towards the end of the night though - not related to you though. I guess LoL has some problems on his computer with lag delay (though the servers have been pretty messy for me recently too).
ooo - watching a game in spectator mode now!
Yeah this just happened.
Had over 500 Armor with Brutal Strike activated. Alot of my deaths where preventable, if my team would of been more aggressive. And towards the end I was just diving into all 5 by myself just to see how much damage I could do before dying.
I'll never get this lucky again.
That looks alot like my stats playing like a jackass as singed. Lots of fun though - glad you got to enjoy yourself.
Picked up lux last night. I really digging her. Amazingly strong harass early game and some excellent nuking abilities. Seems to do best bottom lane with a melee AD character. So amazingly squishy, though, so you have to be very cautious and be spot on with your snares.
What a dumb team....
Madreds and Last Whisper would have done them a hell of a lot of good.
