Hi
I have noticed that I use Impulse less and less when looking for interesting games to play. I like strategy, some rpg and tower defense games. The problem is that everything is US centric. I know that the world is divided into distribution zones and that sometimes make it difficult when negotiating deals for Stardock(Gamestop now I guess). What I cannot phantom is why Gamersgate (Swedish?) can give me everything, but Impulse next to nothing?
Todays sale on Impulse:
Prince of Persia - not available in my region (I am in Norway)
Splinter Cell Bundle - not available
Farcry Bundle - not available
Dark Messiah (a REAL oldie) - not available. This one really surprised me.
I just had to vent this. Move on...
Probably because Stardock is based out of Michigan...
I have noticed that the 'credit/debit' cards i purchase do not allow me to purchase (over the www) from some places. I get the message, "not valid outside the USA." Perhaps there is also a web of financial agreements to which we peons are not privy that 'prohibits' or 'restricts' the free flow of electronic cash from some areas to other areas?
Impulse is now owned and controlled by GameStop.
If you have any issues, forums.impulsedriven.com would be the place to get help.
Which for the record is based in Texas, but I'm certain it has everything to do with either
A. Different rights holder to these game holders in different regions.
B. Unnecessary bureaucracy between countries, either with games directly or E-commerce
I assure you that GameStop is an equal opportunity company when it comes to taking your money.
I will also volunteer to take your money, but I am biased, I will only take money from people who live in Norway.
I will not take it from anyone else.
Count yourself lucky.
Not speaking for GameStop, but in past restrictions were set by publishers/devs, not the service.
Oh, well then, anyone who feels compelled to give money to KardaxKardum in Norway is invited to send it to me instead. be happy to help you with your 'situation."
Dear ElanaAhova,
I am very pleased to be knowing you. I have a great money that I need to take to Norway. I am Seanw3, Fourth Prince of Nigeria. I need someone I can trust to transfer the money since Nigeria can not send it there. I can see that you are trusted and I will give you 30,000 euros for helping me. I will be needing your bank information to send you the money. I also need your Facebook account information to tell your friends how trusted you are so more princes can contact you for this purpose.
Thank You,
Prince Seanw3
But then howcome Steam and Gamersgate are easily overcoming these country restrictions? I get my games from other soruces than Impluse. They are the only ones failing to get worldwide access it seems. I know its fashionable not to like americans, but what the he...
These restrictions have always been set by publishers. They attempt (rather vainly) to segregate their markets so people in X country can't get bargains from deals available to Y. D2D is full of these restrictions.
What I mind more is that these on-line digital content shops routinely give you price according to the region you are in. Many use the formula 1 euro = 1 dollar, so that Americans pay much less in result.
When asked for explanation, the answer is that "Americans are used to lower prices". What bollocks is that? If I came to a physical shop, and the assistant would say: "The price is 5$, oh, wait, you look like you come from Europe, so it's 7$ for you", I could rightfully sue him/her.
Hey, there's plenty of games cheaper outside of America...

KardaxKardum?
hah
I am not from Norway, I only take money from people who live in Norway!
Europeans get the short end of the stick when it comes to American games, but obviously the European games are usually cheaper, and or exclusive to the populations of Europe.
