With a couple of threads about Dominions 3 I decided to check it out. As far as I can tell the only place to buy it is from Shrapnel Games website where it's $55. I stop, slightly shocked, in my tracks over how a game from 2006 costs so much. Is that the only place to buy it or just the overpriced direct source?
Well go for it!
Make as much noise over how much it sucks as you can, I will enjoy the view
I'm no fanboi, I like seeing things slagged, and hell yeah, Dom3 can be slagged for many things. Of course the 'counter', such as it is, is that those things are deemed irrelevant by the people who actually like the game.
For example I can't stand any RTS, any of them at all. They all suck, are tedious to play, and completely and utterly boring. Why? Because they are RTSes, and RTSes are tedious and boring to play. No matter that it's just my own issues with RTSes, yet I can rip any of them apart if I actually wanted to, but anyone who enjoys RTSes will be all 'what the fuck is wrong with that asshole, doesn't he know it's an RTS????'
Did this youtube ever get made?Id like to see the slams on Dom3 also.
(I usually consider them funny or clueless)
Nope, I'm not proficient with youtube but I plan to make it one day.
Dominions 3 is now on Desura for $30
A new DEMO is available for Linux and Windows and Mac OSX. The new demo is caught up on all of the patched changes to the game. Also for those who have the Dom3 game already, Illwinter has added the 300 page manual to their page as a free PDF download.http://www.illwinter.com/
The demo limits research to level 4, and limits the playable classes. But it does now give a correct impression of the play and the system requirements. The demo DOES allow for multiplay with friends. The server www.Dom3Minions.com has more info and open games for DEMO play.
Let me tell you, my friend. Dominions 3 is something you cannot live without. I myself tried to play it, but found myself unworthy of its complexity and depth. But it charms me still.
What is so great about this game? Been curious for years but it used to cost a bit much to me.
I heard about Dom3 through these forums when there was those multiplayer forum threads. I thought the price was spendy, but figured it was something right up my alley. I never had to have fancy graphics as long as the gameplay was good.
The gameplay is great. On a pure price per hour of play standpoint, I can say I've gotten a better deal on Dominions 3 than any game I've played since SotS prime and Titan Quest. The manual is great, the gameplay is fantastic.
This game has lasted years on my machines.
I have paid as much for prettier games that didnt last a month on my machine. Especially irritating if Ifind a killer walk-thru is posted somewhere right after I buy the game. Dom3 has been out for years and the forums are still arguing strongest/weakest, tactics, etc. And no cheats, no backdoors.
Dom3 had 63 nations (now 72 in the patched game). Unique nations with unique abilities and unique units. Not just same army wearing different color uniforms. Even within ONE nation there are at least half a dozen different popular strategy paths that have developed. Do you know how long it would take you to even figure out which one you like well enough to TRY playing multiplayer against others?
If you DO get burned out, there are still the unusual strategies to try and surprise people with. OR adding more of the many modded nations that players made, or special maps that add twists to the playing.
BUT (DISCLAIMER) Do NOT take my word for it. It is NOT everyones game. Definitely try the demo first! Especially now that you can go to the Illwinter.com site and get one that has all the patched improvements in it
