Tophat you are driving me insane. I think i will switch to polish next time to have more understanding ... I have offered you peace once - with conditions. Never heard back. Withdrew my armies back as a sign of good will and sent the second set of conditions. I send a warning that if you do not answer this message i considered it refused. Never heard back from you. I sent you message, after seeing that you posted on forum, and did not answer me, that time is over and i consider our peace attempt at failed. Then moved armies back. And you call it ambush .... Not to mention that this ambush is in my province - and you are attacker ... And this very province i claimed to myself in any of both proposals of peace i sent to you. I am speechless ....
Now i am accused of betraying, lying etc. Good, i have all correspondence with dates and hours of being sent preserved. Please, Tophat don't ruin someone's else reputation b/c of your own mistakes, lack of attention etc. It is always sooo easy to make an accusation.
So for future: if someone proposes you peace, even if it is not conditional, YOU ANSWER FIRST AND THEN IS PEACE. Proposal is NOT the same as a deal. At least in my world ...
Uggg... so confusing.
TopHat, allow me to act as a broker in this negotiation, as I believe I have the confidence of both of you right now, and frankly, I would rather the two of you were at peace for my own purposes. Sauro has sent me his email address. Please also send me yours and we can have a three-way conversation via email about this. Please do so quickly, however, as I would like to get this sorted out before one of you accidentally destroys the other
While it is true that my assassins struck against Marverni without warning, it is also true that we had no diplomatic conversations with them prior to that strike. I have honored all of my NAP-3 diplomatic agreements, as is evidenced by my giving of fair warning before starting war with C'tis.
So, to reiterate, we did not propose, or receive a proposal for - let alone agree to - a NAP with Marverni before our attack. We were, by the rules of the game, at war already. He may find my attack dastardly (I prefer "cunning") because it was stealthy instead of head-on, but he has no right to see it as a betrayal, as we had no agreements.
You are simply unbelievable. Why is it I can resolve my differences with the C'tis player, who frankly i most certainly did offer insult to yet to you who violated an agreed to border when it looked to your advantage are now the injured party. You withdrew your forces and made a post about feeling bad and not knowing this was my first mp game of dominions,I took you at your word and got "ambushed". And still its my fault you clobbered me?
I do not have the luxury of checking here before posting every turn or frankly my turns might be hours later than when i get them in. No,i try and get them in as timely as possible,so i did not see your 2 private msgs to me. No.i saw the public post you made and the fact you withdrew on the map after i had said how critical that province was to me. I moved in...you did as well so we fought,i lost...............i in irritation at being kicked again that turn by you and Abysia, both only acting to help poor C'tis(who i never attack and hasn't attacked me in a turn or so)beat hell outa me again.
Hey at least the Abysia fellow has the stones to straight up say he's coming for me...........
So your totally unplanned ambush worked well.....congrats..do you feel better now? Is there anything else i might say to ease the pain of the victory i forced upon you?
I didn't realize Marverni had independent priests in Ulmish lands...
I mean it's almost an act of war, but since it was just an indie priest I think I'm better off just not having to pay upkeep on him anymore. Then again, I've no idea who sent that assassin at me. But rest assured, if another indie priest gets offed I'll know exactly who to blame!
Can't you tell if it's an Abysian assassin if you watch the battle? I don't think anyone else here has that capability, unless it's an indie assassin, if such things exist.
I have to say I find the concept of Abysian assassins quite amusing. I would think the whole "burning man" thing might make it hard to sneak up on people.
Two dispatches from our capital
ABYSIA, THE SMOULDERCONE - The war is about to begin. The citizens of Abysia who appointed Joe their leader hoped never to see this day. They thought that maybe, this time, they could live in fiery peace. But Joe, in his wisdom, has lead the Abysians to war with their former friends, the lizard people of C'tis. Insiders have suggested that this is a foolish war, that any of Abysia's other neighbors would have been a more sensible first foe. But Joe has been insistent - it is C'tis (and their bountiful supply of death gem dust) or no one.
The war promises to be a classic clash of quantity versus quality. No nation can match C'tis in sheer number of troops on the field, no nation can match Abysia in quality of armor and arms.
But that's not to say that C'tis is a nation of weaklings. The lizards are tough, resilient, difficult to kill in their own right. And, what's more, they will have some natural resistance to the chief of Abysia's weapons: heat. The Abysians - unaccustomed to and undesirous of war (in spite of their reputation to the contrary) - are scared. Their leaders, wary. But Joe, above all, with his prophet and sometime lover Jake, is confident of victory. Will that confidence prove foolish? The axes of Abysia will meet the spears of C'tis this month, and we will start to find out. This war will not be won in its opening months, but it could be lost.
-----------
ABYSIA, THE SMOULDERCONE - "How do they do it," that's the question that has been plaguing Abysia's enemies. They, in this case, are the Abysian assassin corps. For a nation of giant, fiery, highly conspicuous people, the Abysian assassins are surprisingly effective.
The answer, of course, is that our best and finest assassins are not the fiery lava-born that make up the bulk of our armies and population, but rather the winged demonbred, the brain children of Warlock experimentation. No one knows for sure how the demons are bred, exactly, but speculation is rife both within and beyond Abysia that it might have something to do with death gems, blood slaves, and, well, good old fashioned romance.
In a recent interview, noted Warlock Malphas had this to say: "Oh, yes, demonbred. They're wonderful aren't they. As to how we make them," he grinned wryly, "That's for me to know and you to find out." The notes of the correspondent assigned to the interview end there, though the most recent of the demonbred bear a distinct resemblance to said reporter, and have shown a remarkable capability for investigative journalism.
(Oh, and as a gameplay note, we haven't sent our assassins against anyone but Marverni... So far)
I don't use assassins...only one that has to my knowledge and I have been hit 6+ times in 3 turns now,is Abysia. Note,I am not crying about it as if our positions were reversed I'd do the same thing.
Ulm.....................Stand by for a large gift....
Abysia, I have to ask: what the hell is a "smouldercone"? Some kind of jalapeno-flavoured ice cream?
Ulm has always understood it in reference to Joes 'alternative lifestyle', though we still don't understand exactly what it does.
Ha! "The Smouldercone" is one of our capital's magical sites. It's the volcano at the heart of the Abysian Empire.
You mean it's not a jalapeno-flavoured ice cream? Oh dear. The troops will be very disappointed to hear that. I promised them there will be ice cream once we take your capital.
I am at work and cannot load up the game and see what happened in our skirmishes. Looks like you did slightly better than I did, based on the stats before and after, but not by much. Can't wait to see the carnage when I get home from work tonight.
Ulm is pretty sure the Smouldercone is not ice cream, but it is something Joe apparently likes having licked.
Naturally,I check the forums and look for messages before sending in the turn and alas......there is nothing..........
Ulm........gift delayed, need to see if the fellow i have carrying gems out made it to a free province.
Indeed, defense is the word of the day. I held the line on your attacks, and you mostly held the line on mine. Carnage, though, is definitely the word. I lost one of my HOF commanders, and my assassins were by and large too stupid to attack your actual commanders, instead fighting their summoned skeletal minions. Only one succeeded in actually killing a commander.
Seems like we're only at the beginning of this fight. I don't mind admitting - since we're noobies around here - that this is the largest-scale war I've ever had to fight in Dominions. It's not quite overwhelming, but it's definitely whelming. Anyway, looking forward to the next round of our battles.
No, no, no, you've got it all wrong. Only Joe is allowed to lick the Smouldercone... Comes with being Abysia's leader.
Sorry, HOF commander? What is that?
All of my commanders are guarded, but if you managed to kill even one of them I guess they are not sufficiently guarded. Hmm.
I had some pretty epic battles in Elementalists against Lanka. I know one battle lasted at least fifteen minutes long and I watched it twice because it was so entertaining (suffice to say, one of the few that I won).
Now that I have seen the turn play out, I think it was more of an even fight. I lost more troops, true, but yours were much more expensive to build. I lost a lot of the militia who oddly joined up with me over the last few turns. Not much else to do with them but sacrifice them to Inconnu on the front lines of his/her blessed army. Since they were free, and kind of crap, I don't care all that much.
Yeah, I was particularly disappointed at the performance of my northern army. There were heavy losses up there, especially among the burning ones, which are not cheap. That said, and as your own forces discovered, Abysian PD is as strong as any in the game, so even my undefended provinces are not going to be a cakewalk. All in all, I have a feeling this might be a protracted battle. Especially once I actually get priests into my army to combat your undead hordes.
Oh, and all I meant by "HOF" was Hall of Fame. One of my commanders who had been in the Hall of Fame was killed by one of your priests casting Smite on him.
Mentioning Hall of Fame in the previous post has encouraged us to check this very hall for information first time since long time. To our shock we have discovered that God of Ulm has succumbed to a mortal hand, and our entire nation is grieving and in a state of denial at such a sacrilege. As a token of our sympathy we are sending a blood slave; it is a common knowledge nothing cheers up the mood as the solemn sacrifice.
With best wishes for our friends
Suromaniacs
How did that happen, Ulm?
Well, at least you have/had a god. Inconnu seems to be a no show for some reason. Perhaps he/she will show his/her blessed face at some point soon, so we can get this game started correctly.
Marveni seems to have lost his capital to Sauromatia, but he also has a ~180 troop force just sitting near our border watching Abysia and I fight. Not quite sure what that's all about. Marveni, if you are not going to defend yourself, perhaps I could beg of you to throw your troops in front of the Abysian horde? It would be of great help to me...
Ehh?
Good ol' Shadow Noob is alive and kicking. A few nicks of course, but not really much worse for wear.
He did spend a few months stuck under the foot of a rather large pachyderm, but the priests were eventually able to pry him off and get him more or less on his feet.
Well, he kinda floats anyway. It's odd, he does seem to spend a lot of time with Tim, the Hammer forger, staring vacantly as the energies are released from the earth gems to imbue the hammers with their power. Though then he can burst out laughing for no reason anyone other than Tim seems to understand.
Death, it's only temporary, I think that's the lesson here
Would it be possible to put the game on 48 hour turns for the weekend? I will not have great access this weekend. Thanks in advance.
Also, going forward, it would make the game much faster if the last person to submit a turn waits five minutes and then submits their next turn as well. I think that happened this turn anyway, but as a general rule I think it makes sense.
48 hour turn cycle over weekend fine by me.
I am for also - i will have very, very busy weekend ...
