Hello, all; I've been reading this forum for a while, and have been studying the excellent tutorial found here. I'm on p. 5 at the part where the author talks about slicing the start menu for reassembly in SS. My start menu isn't exactly square like the illustrated one is, so I'm not very sure about how to go about slicing it. Is it safe to publish an image here of a work in progress, or is that not recommended for security reasons?peace,
Mally

You have the right picture alright. Although I was pretty sure the issue had already been solved (as described in post #198), I wanted to look at your possible solution for future reference, and watch my screen a while before declaring any certainty. I have not seen the translucent borders since adding the 1 px painting margins (see my post to Xiandi for more on that) to the 3 ends that had no margins defined. Anyway, that trick of yours is a good one to know! Thanks for passing it along.
peace,
Dave
I eventually caught that difference, too. You're right; the top and bottom margins of both side borders were not all set to 0. The lower left margin was set to 19, as it needed to be, because of a sort of finial that's down there. The other 3 margins had been left in their default positions of 0, though. I suspect if that bottom margin were set to 0, there'd have been no issue. That it had been changed from default and the other 3 had not, the software was confused. Since I changed the other 3 margins to 1, no more disappearing borders. Now, if only I could say I liked the way they look...
Hello all;
In the UIS2 Frame Section of Vamp's tutorial, she warns not to import the caption bitmap because of a glitch that causes the loss of the thumbpicture of one's skin in windowblinds. I read to the bottom of the page (end of section 1) and the tutorial doesn't say when to import that caption image. I'm wondering at what point one does that, or if the glitch has been fixed?
I've never had that problem. Import when ready.
Thank you; the thumbpicture in WB is displaying just as it should.
Mine brains gonna burst. So much to learn. OMG!
You just gotta jump in Uvah. Don't bother trying to learn it all before you make one, you just can't do it that way.
I'm not that crazy. Baby steps first.
This isn't like walking, Uvah. It's more like driving a car. You can't really take baby steps when trying to get onto the freeway, you'll never get on and you'll irritate the crap out of the people behind you. Just have to find your quickest opportunity and gun it, get in there and hope for the best.
Good advice...don't be a "try" (or "cry") baby, be a "DO" baby!!!!
I'm from the States. Went to England a number of years ago where the driver sits on the right side of the seat, and drives down the left lanes of the roads and highways. Ten minutes from the airport, we came across a roundabout, a sort of intersection where no one stops but goes "roundabout" until their exit comes up. I needed a pee cup after about 3 times around of trying to be in the correct lane without people blowing their horns at me. I'm all for diving into new things, but I sure wasn't prepared for that. Uvah, this skinning is nothing near that bad.
I'm not afraid of it, nor am I against trying something new. When I'm ready I'll get into it but right now..........................
Holding mine hand please
Hello, all;
I made some initial text color choices for the buttons on the edit toolbar controls page, but wasn't satisfied with them all. I tried changing them again, but it seemed like I'd picked the wrong colors for some states. I changed them all to the normal state color, but many buttons in Windows have remained with the first color choices I made. They remain such even after after a system reboot. The buttons on Foxfire pages retain their original black text (not one of my color choices), and the bookmarks toolbar retains a color that I originally chose for the disabled state. That text does not change during mouseover or pressed states. Is this a known issue, or am I doing something wrong? By the way when I put on another skin that I knew would change my button colors like Xiandi's Dark and Dirty, they do change. When I wear my skin again, they're back to where they were. Thanks in advance,
Peace,
The toolbar style menubar buttons and the places button are mislabled in SKS. They are in the order that I put in this screeny.
The coders for SKS could easily fix it by just changing the labels in the dropdown, not their function, just the labels, but it's been this way since I started skinning blinds.
The problem is with the text colour on those WHOLE toolobar button group:
button
button(6state)
split button
split drop down button
drop down button
toolbar style menu button
You need to skin ALL of those button and when you do the text states you have to make them ALL THE SAME COLOUR
if you dont, sk has a major bug here and the state colour do NOT act correctly.
It's when you have fancy buttons, that skinning the Split and Dropdown buttons becomes necessary. it's also good to skin them all if you have different text colors for every state. Most of the time, I have the same color for all the states except mouseover or pressed. I've never had any big issues with the text colors in this section.
Conversely I've driven on the RIGHT side of the road [the Left] for about 35 years before a trip to the US/Canada in '09.....
THAT was spooky....running around Detroit [and at one stage trying NOT to run into the arse of Frogboy's Porsche in my 'rental']...
Thank you both very much. Xiandi, it was big help to know part of what was going on. Vampothica, I did try changing the state colors of those other buttons in that group as well; to no avail. I still have 3 small issues as demonstrated here:
1. Button is in pressed state. Text color for pressed and mouseover are the same and correctly displayed in this screen shot. Unlike Xiandi's Dark and Dirty skin where they are correctly displayed, these colors are not reflected in Firefox. The "post reply" button at the end of a post, for example, has black text color, and my bookmarks toolbar buttons display the grey text color as seen in 2.
2. The plus sign correctly displays the color for all states except mouseover, and pressed. I briefly used the grey in the minus box for the disabled state, but changed my mind. However, it is still displayed on all disabled state buttons I've found (including those in Photoshop), and as noted above. They grey is fine on the disabled state buttons, but not on the Firefox bookmarks toolbar. The grey color is nowhere in my chosen color states for these buttons, only the butter color, and the orangy color.
3. Button margins inconsistently disappear, especially with buttons in pressed or mouseover states. Oddly, where two adjacent sides meet at a corner, the overlapped corners do not disappear. Is there anything I can do about that?
I've never been to Detroit, but I'm a country boy. Pittsburgh is a relatively small city, and I get anxious and confused trying to drive into there. Drove into NY City one time; never, never will I do that again.
Wonder how it came to be that different countries adopted different sides of the road to drive on? It has to go long before cars, though we all know where they were first built. In the Welsh hills are tiny narrow little roads between the ancient hedgerows that follow the ridges. Every km or two is a lay-by which allows a driver to back up to one to let another driver pass. I can't remember if they are on both or only one side of the roads.
Peace
Driving in New York is like signing on for a suicide mission in the military. I grew up in New York and I drove a taxi for several years. Not the yellow ones you see in Manhattan, a private car service and let me tell you.....its no picnic. Once after dropping off a fare by Grand Central Station I witnessed a seven car collision, all of them yellow taxis. One pulls out into traffic not paying attention. Another hits the brakes and rear-ends him, one after another five more do the same thing, slam on the brakes and rear-end each other. LMAO all the way back home.
yes you do if you dont want to have issues with the state texts.
am not......
am too........
am too.......
Oh...never mind. j/k lol
Firefox uses different rules for those buttons..........it`s in the edit color section. Menu text color is what I remember off the top of my head.....but I would have to double check that.
I wouldn`t use FF to judge how my skins look if I were you.....so may weird issues there.
Thanks for the suggestions. Navigating through Firefox's prefs is pretty easy; I'd already been fiddling with that. Even if it were only Firefox, I'd still need to resolve it sooner or later, but the grey text issue on disabled state buttons as illustrated in post #218 also can be seen in IE8 and PSCS3.
In IE8, some of the GUI elements are correctly displaying with the buttery colored text, but some is also displayed in orange, gray, and black.
The issue of the broken borders isn't evident in IE8, but neither is it happening to me in FF at the moment. The text which should be buttery colored on web page buttons is still black in both IE8 and FF. The GUI buttons in FF are all wrong.
actually, im just trying to help a newbie learn to skin, i can only count on ONE hand how many people here help new people skin,
if you know of more........let me fucking know Uvah............
