Hello Stardock/Ironclad
Can you guys release some more information about sins rebellion please. I don't care what it is, it can be a snippet of a pic of the arse end of a titan for all I care, but I just find it highly disappointing that some of the other games I am following (Sword of the stars 2, Witcher 2) are constantly releasing new information every 1-2 weeks, while every time I check up on this game I am hugely let down. Please don't get me wrong, don't rush the game or anything, just keeping the fans in the dark for months on end is extremely frustrating on our end, and very unprofessional on your end:P Take Ubisofts upcoming game Heroes of Might and Magic 6 for example, they have been highly involved with their community from the very first announcement of the game and have even had a 'pic-of-the-day' thread on their forums where each day they released a new pic from the upcoming game, thus giving us fans many interesting points of discussion and giving them valuable feedback on the game and its direction. I hope this is not all too much to ask, but the lack of interaction is really becoming too much to take.

It's true.
Not me. I can wait. I enjoy playing the Diplomacy expansion the way it is now. From my perspective the real value of Rebellion is that it could serve to introduce hundreds of thousands of new people to the Sins franchise and bring hundreds and hopefully thousands of new people online. I can wait for a high quality product that thus has the potential to be a smash hit. I hope the devs take as much time or more time than they need to make it the greatest space RTS of all time, to fully polish it, and to promote it properly and to release it at a strategic time.
I'm actually more interested in hearing about their plans for promoting Rebellion than I am about its specific content.
Ignoring the large customer base on Steam was probably the worst mistake they ever made. It boggles my mind every time I think about it.
Because selling over half a million copies and winning multiple Game of the Year awards is the definition of failure
obviously, that's not enough to fund Sins 2. and of that 500k figure, only 100k copies were sold digitally through impulse. steam has 10 times more users than impulse. they could have made exponentially more if they went with steam and that's the kind of difference which would have fueled the development of Sins 2. instead we're getting Sins 1.5
I doubt money is the reason they are not making Sins 2. Also at the time Stardock and Steam were digital distribution rivals, putting Sins on steam would be like putting Halo on the Wii. Maybe the actual Sins 2 will be on Steam, but rest assured I'll never buy it there.
I'm sure you have intimate knowledge of the inner workings of Ironclad and Stardock, and know exactly what making Sins 2 would cost. They could've made $5 on each of those sales and paid for the original development of the game twice. And the half a million number is 3 years old. I'm sure they haven't sold any more since then.
Stardock has never released sales figures for what they've sold online. He's talking out his ass.
He is just a pessimistic troublemaker. I am surprised they aren't modernizing Sins and its expansions for 64-bit and multi-core support when it is the standard now, something Stardock/Ironclad didn't anticipate, but I am not complaining about it. I would rather worry about the AI's deficiencies and the clunky diplomacy system than this nonsense.
Sins definitely needs an influx of new players, it deserves better than what it has received so far.

Even if it isn't 64 bit, I would prefer it to require a minimum of a multi-core processor whether that's a Pentium-D, a Dual-Core etc and so forth. It would make the game run more smoothly by utilizing both cores, even on a 32-bit platform. Battlefield 3 is going that route which is at the very least a start in the right direction.
Battlefield 3 is also a new game on an at least an updated engine. Making a game compatible with multi-cores (at least fully, Sins can use multiple cores when loading textures, and perhaps with other isolated things) is probably just as hard as making it 64 bit. Either of these changes will basically be a new engine, which they are not doing.

It's a shame they aren't spending the time they have, to update for 64bit and multicore systems, which I Still find very odd.
But, I am looking forward to rebellion
Because those two things would require a major engine overhaul which would take years to complete.

I checked out the Ironclad Games website. As of 17.12.09 you can pre-order Trinity.
Yeah, things are kinda quiet.
The IronClad website is sorely out of shape ... and very very out of date.
