Hey, I was wondering if there was going to be a campaign to Sins Rebellion, as it could make the game play more dynamic and make the game have more variety. It could also give people a better understanding of the lore of the game. Maybe make campaign also multiplayer? What are your thoughts on this?
Do you have a source for this information?
I talked with StarClad at their home office about a campaign... and secretly video-taped it...

Willy Wonka and the IronClad Factory?
I figured Yarlen would have darker hair ...
The game itself. Look at the map screen. The maps are listed: small scenarios, medium scenarios, and large scenarios. 10 new scenarios = 10 new preset maps.
None of those maps have any interesting triggers or victory conditions though, for example the guardians at the gates or something similar there were none and the planets were average, nothing special....
Kill em all, let the ai sort them out.
They've done a good 10 or so scenario maps with each expansion though. So they're just continuing the trend with Rebellion.
And I think you're thinking of Gateway... IIRC it was a fully defended Terran planet that had the only phase lane capable of accessing another section of the map. The implication was that whoever controlled Gateway would get a nice economic lead, in theory.
Actually, to my knowledge, Ironclad only added 7 maps in Diplomacy and no additional maps in Entrenchment; I ought to know, I added articles for all of the maps on the Sins Wiki, after having wrote down all of the descriptions, and comparing the map lists in the three.
This is kind of an old thread, but I'll say what I must.
In my original plans for the Darkness mod, I had thought about including a campaign in with the race. I couldn't decide on which kind to include, though. I had my choices narrowed down to two types, Personal or Racial.
A Personal campaign, for those of us that like RPGs, would be you as an admiral or something like that facing the Darkness in your sector or area of control.
A Racial campaign would see you as the emperor of your empire reacting to the appearance of the Darkness.
I haven't been able to work on the mod recently, so I don't know wether I'll include a campaign.
My non-progressing mod situation is due to two reasons: 1.) My mom took away my USB drive with Sins on it. 2.) Last Sunday, 9/18/11, I got Demigod for $2.00 at a thrift store, and have been playing that lots recently, because I like that game.
I gotta ask...
Why did your mom take away your USB drive?
She thinks my priorities today only include playing computer, (i. e., Sins, Demigod, and BSF) and to punish me, she took away my sins USB drive. My sins USB drive has all the stuff for sins that you would normally expect to see in Program Files. Naturally, I just installed Sins on my family's computers so that punishment was kind of useless.
Note: I do the Sins USB drive thing because according to the copyright, you can only install Sins on one computer. So I circumvent that rule by installing sins on the computer, and putting the essential files on a USB drive, the files are still only on one computer (technically).
Where did you hear that from? I've heard stardock themselves say two (probably really any) computers you personally own are okay.
I've installed it on three... Family PC 1, Family PC 2, and laptop.
Ok. Can we return to the main topic, please?
What else is there to discuss?
We have a better chance of StarClad calling his mother and getting her to let him play SINS 23/7 than getting a campaign.
Is your mom hot? jk
That was the best question in this thread
This isn't a hard thing to do, and something I've prodded Ironclad for years to do.
A) It's not rocket science... all it requires is a rudimentary campaign file that can link multiple maps together, with customizable introduction text and customizable completion text being displayed. Making a Campaign option in the main menu completes it. As a programmer myself, coding that would be so easy it's a joke.
Now if Ironclad want to actually put some real programming time into this, add 2 more features: 1) configurable XP rate option (to slow down cap levelling) and 2) allow up to 8 selectable capaital ships to be migrated to the next map. This will also require the map editor to have certain techs already learned.
Combine A and B together you have a campaign function.
If I was CxO of Ironclad, this is a no-brainer decision. It sets the scene for value-add material in future micro-expansions (campaigns) and also leverages a growing mod community to churn out campaigns.
Ironclad... just do it!
I'm pretty sure there's something in gameplay.constants or some other easily moddable file which can achieve that.
Carrying over cap stats though would need to be programmed in, of course.
Have you listened to the interview clip I posted?
Here I repost it for you lazy kids.
So...any more questions on this? or can we move on?
B/c if anything that need to be discuss its those damn loot drops. Im looking at you Blair, sir. You tease.
Apparently a campaign is too frakking hard since I've also asked, along with perhaps 2-3 other people, for a campaign only to get trolls crawling out from under the bridge mumbling filtergarb about "4x MP RTS need no campaign", "Campaign ofr sissies", "Who the (&%)*&^ are you?", and "Just because OTHER games have them doesn't mean it's a good feature."
Just play the same damn maps over and over again... or use your imagination.
Video is marked Private...
Well a campaign is indeed not going to happen, it seems the community may be able to make one according to the latest Rebellion feature's posted on the Sins facebook.
Well, ok. Don't expect to see a Darkness Mod campaign at least until the new GalForge comes out. I'm not even sure what the map(s) are going to look like. I would apperciate help with that.
But, I still plan to include a Darkness campaign.

Totally agree
I wouldn't be surprised if in 6 months they do release a campaign function... or maybe it will be an easter egg in Rebellion. I can only guess that theyonly have 2 programmers and one graphic artist working on this.. shoestring budget. I still think this feature alone would drive more revenue/sales than anything else.
