Star ruler, 1/2 this weekend on impulse. Anyone who has played this have comments. i might get this one....
Get the demo at: http://starruler.blind-mind.com/ (See orange link on the right hand side of the page)
Work is still being done on the game (AI rewrite help it handle the stuff that has changed since it was written is coming up soon I hear... specifically to handle the economy).
Demo... cool thanks, somehow I missed the demo being available... I was focusing on their decision to stop using impulse as a distribution platform because, while they trust Brad (froggy), they don't trust/agree with/ respect current practices of new owner of impulse.
It has no DRM, and everything is in the install directory so if you keep the install around (burn to CD or something) then it can always be used. It also is compatible with the updates from their site and it has an update utility built into the game (accessed from the main menu).
My personal opinion, get it. 10$ is a steal! Now I have only play so much ie classes. School is done in 2 weeks and then I am really going to dive into this game. Its fun. Tutorials are very helpful. They are always throwing big updates into it every month. Star Ruler has come a long way since I first played it. Nothing like building a ship bigger than the galaxy... Mines bigger!
I played the release version of the game last year. It wasn't really the final version, having a lot of things that needed fixing and updating, the game being made in essence by two people for most of the time. But the shear size of the galaxy you can generate blew me out of the water. If you've got a strong enough PC, you can add a million solar systems. It's received a lot of updates since release, and the stuff they want to add to the game sounds very awesome.
So long term, it's going to be a really sweet 4X Space TBS, for 10 dollars, it's a steal.
I'm still torn between wanting the game, and not wanting it from Impulse knowing that Blind Mind is about to pull Impulse support.
The plan is for it to still be availible for those that purchased it, it will just be that no more people can buy it. However, it remains to be seen how that works out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the game where you can build a ship the size of a galaxy, then fill it with ships the size of planets? And on and on, like those Russian dolls...
Yes, though a ship the size of a galaxy would take forever to make...
Yeah I know that's the plan, but I don't really trust it. If they were keeping it for sale I'd have bought it by now for sure, but the uncertainty sucks.
If anyone is interested, it is on sale elsewhere as well (or at least at Gamer's Gate http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-SR/star-ruler).
Isn't this the kind of game that has been on permanent sale? Ie early alpha/beta paid release?
It is a full release version, though work is still being done on it.
As I recall, there have been times it was not on sale.
Wound up picking it up on D2D since it's on sale there too. Looks like they've made a LOT of improvements since I looked at it months ago.
It gets patched frequently.

Live change log for version 1.0.7.6 at: http://forums.blind-mind.com/index.php?topic=3360.0
It's a pretty amazing game, I'm learning how to use blender just for it. Blueprints are so much fun when designing your ships. The MP is pretty concrete and I'm not even a 4x MP'er. (I like to test my designs vs other peoples inventions.)
Tempted to get it, until I checked my ageing computer specs
