This month marks the two year anniversary of Demigod's initial release. It's time to start thinking about its future.
If you had your way, what would you do with Demigod?
For example: For a Demgiod v1.5, what key tweaks would you do in that?
For a Demigod expansion, what would you do in that?
For a Demigod sequel, what would you do in that?
We'd like to hear how you guys would like to see Demigod evolve in the future.
Wait a second... does this mean Stardock will be working on Demigod 2 in some capacity other than merely publisher? GPG clearly don't have a problem with their franchises being worked on by other development teams - see Dungeon Siege III for an example - and if Demigod 2 got half the attention EoM has post-release, it would be 74.56% better than the attention Demigod received. Or something.
I demand a video suppling information, and possibly bee roulette!
Would be so happy if this E3 had some surprise...
I demand to see queen of thorns make a triumph return in demigod 2
Healcat > All!
as long as she's nerfed.
Healcat > All! = syntax error!!!
Nooo, never, she must be over 9000s!
I would suggest that all the players can get at least uberfix 1.05 by pressing the update button or even better that it would be implemented right from the start. I would be fine if they need to get the other things from the forum. (though it would be an improvement to have the other mods as well).
How about pressing the update button and get redirected to pavoc mod package if the latest version is installed? That would be nice. Because I could host my games and be sure that everybody can enter theoretically. And the others that like to use buggy games (maybe to use exploits) may be be fine with that.
DG2 or whatever is not my concern for now since I´m relatively new and would like to play DG as least as bugfree as possible.
We've already discussed the problems with adding user-created mods as direct downloads or updates in various other threads. Either you allow the mod authors to update their mods, and open everyone up to potential exploitation via official channels (it's one thing to download a malicious mod/installer of your own volition, but having it hand-delivered via the game interface is a PR disaster waiting to happen) or you don't, and the mod authors can't update their mods, and nobody ever uses any updated versions that they release independently, and any bugs in the 'officially distributed' versions stay around forever just like the bugs in the original game.
If they're not going to add an opt-in mod download interface to the game, then the only thing they can or should do is integrate bug fixes directly into the game (which they should also do even if they do add a mod download interface).
But how about a warning to everybody who is redirected directly from the game? I mean, it all about law issues, isn´t it?
Of course, if they would still be bugfixing/updating the game all would be fine. But since they won´t, they could make it possible that at least the bugfixing and UI mods are available for everyone not even for an english speaking person. I can´t tell the russians that don´t speak english how they can get Uberfix or it would be difficult at least.
Don´t know... But if I read through the Uberfix log I would really like to have these bugs fixed. The one way or the other.
For an installer, a warning wouldn't really be enough. For a direct mod download, maybe, but then you run into the problem of how to allow the mod author to update his/her mod so that the game directs to the latest version? That would require a large enough update to the game (and enough QA time) that they may as well just include the fixes directly, which is a much better solution for everyone involved.
Regardless of how the game is patched, it will require money. If they're willing to spend money on re-writing the in-game Impulse UI to link to external downloads, that same money will probably go just as far if spent on bugfix integration and testing, with fewer legal issues and bugfixes for every game, not just those where people choose to use the mod. This is especially meaningful when someone is abusing an exploit fixed by the mod - why would they ever host or join a fix-mod game?
Ok, so I´d like to see a patch that fixes the known bugs because it make more sense if it also costs money to go the "mod-way"
I could imagine that some people don´t like to use mods, even if they´re just fixing bugs (met one online who said that he knows about that mods but don´t like them). Furthermore some people just won´t get to the forum or are able to understand english.
Frogboy also mentioned an expansion pack to think about.
Well, I don´t know about the selling numbers of DG. The recent ones would be interesting, I guess.
But I´m not sure, what should be the content. A lot of things that come to my mind are about balance changes concerning GD and items. New maps would also be cool. Well, but that's not enough for a real expansion pack, i guess.
Maybe some downloadable content for a few bucks would be ok. I think it would be no good idea to overdo it with DG... Just my thoughts now.
free-to-play PvP DemiGod 2, and paid DG with a full story-line could be nice..
I'd switch it to a F2P model like League of Legends uses. Really the game is pretty good, the only thing it needs is more players and more frequent map/champion updates (which presumably with more players would get more resources).
Surely they could implement mods like uberfix as an official approved patch, and then when further updates are made by the authors of that mod, they can ask SD to add that to the patch. I'm not saying open the game up to be modded the shebeezes out of, but it seems these guys have done mountains of work for demigod for free, surely give them some credit and implement their mods as patches, then if they come up with something better, implement that.
Or ignore DG until it dies...... Problem with making an awesome game full of problems is that the people who see it's ptential will continue playing in the hope against hopes that it will never die.
Yes it would be great. However, this has been discussed at length in other threads (or perhaps earlier in this one). Apparently it is not a simple or trivial task to implement a patch and would cost $ and time. Look, I wish it would happen too but it is a mistake to think they can implement the patch verbatim with no testing.
This is just what I have gathered from the multiple previous discussions on this - don't shoot the messenger .
GPG seems to be responsible for patching and so on.
But there never was a word again, so I think they decided to be quite on that topic.
Yeah I'm just feeling sad... surely we could tell them it is tested...by us and wethinks it worksagreat!
I can't imagine that it is such a big thing to include the Uberfix data into the dgdata file.
I'm wrong there maybe, but I think it's just that GPG gave up any support on this game (except for selling it).
So it's just up to us honor the great work of some community members and use Uberfix (and the other mods as well if you like) in the games we host.
It's not that simple. As doggu says, this has recently been discussed at length both in this thread and others, so please do a bit of reading before posting the same 'oh gosh why can't they just cram uberfix into game!!!!!' thing over and over.
Yeah, you're right, I don't get tired of that.
They are not doing their job, regardless if simple or not, imho.
That my imagination is limited on that topic (and will be for the at least near future) is of no doubt.
But what else can I do, but to highlight it over and over again? At least I feel like doing something, regardless if it's making sense or not. So it's more for my personal relief, because I don't think GPG or whoever is responsible, will really do anything.
DG2 would be awesome. What I'd like to see is better support from GPG/SD for DG2 than for DG1. Thanks a lot to Ptarth, miriyaka and many others of Uberfix.
Oh yeah, map creation tools would be exquisite.
This is what I want someone to do or be a part of. It may sound like reaching for the stars, but if this fails at trying, why even bother with this thread. If it's done with the demigod the way it is now or demigod 2 is not the topic issue. That something should be done is! My idea from another thread:
Dear Maulkin and whoever has an interest in a future of Demigod,
So many before you have tried, cried, begged for future support since the game is out till most recently. I'm not saying we should stop asking whoever might be in charge right now, but we must keep asking so they see different and new people show a lot of interest in the years. So write that letter and send it to whomever it may concern.
However, what really could help demigod is a business proposal to different video game companies like Blizzard, Microsoft, EA Games and many other smaller ones that are out there. Send it to everyone. This game is with no doubt unanimously one of the best games of it's genre, if not the best (when the bugs and connectivity issues are put aside). In several weeks this game will gain thousands of gamers with a publicity campaign, a free to play model, and minor bug fixes and better online support. In several months this game would grow to a real esport game with millions of players around the world. In between half a year and a year this game will become and ESL title and stand right next to StarCraft II. With a great support team probably even faster than that.
I mean look how crappy LoL looks and feels in comparison to Demigod? Don't give me wrong LoL has it's strengths and is a fun game to play, also on a high lvl. But what really matters in this world is the support and publicity of a game, more than it's quality. That's why crappy Browser games are played by millions. So if demigod would just get that (a hard working team) everything would almost work by itself because of it's high-end quality.
It might just be too late for that though, depending on how good Dota II is. However, Demigod could be the perfect counterweight to it with its unique graphics, arenas, epic atmosphere, demigod mechanisms, and highly strategic platform and game speed.
This would take a lot of effort and research though. Questions would be: How to contact the giants and small video game companies? Also the legal ways, that whoever is owning demigod right now might have complications within? How to write a business proposal? What to do if a little interest is shown etc.
But if anyone is a specialist in business affairs, has a lot of time in it's hands, or just loves the game too much should just do that. The best option would be if a couple of people try this effort together: creators, fans, and current owners.
