So I've just discovered what is apparently a great and fantastic game (space rangers 2), but everywhere I go I read complaints and issues regarding the in-game text (translated from russian to english).
A game with poorly translated text is kind of a deal breaker for me and I was wondering if there are any unofficial pathes/mods that fix the text. I discovered one person on steam that was trying to fix up the text but I got the sense that he wasn't working from the russian game, but rather sort of guessing and trying to blindly fix up the english text as best as possible.
It's been awhile since I played it, but I don't remember the translation being that awful. I remember there being some grammar issues and awkward word phrasing, but nothing so bad that you didn't understand what was being said. It was nothing like some of those Japanese translations people like to joke about.
Personally I didn't like the game that much though (though I thought parts were very creative). But that's another matter entirely.
Yeah, the translation was not good, but not so bad as to really hinder my enjoyment of the game.
What hindered my enjoyment was the dull repetitiveness of the game. Granted it was really cool for a while, but meh, I guess i just have a low tolerence for 'take this message to system X' then some pointless minigame, then some more 'take these supplies to system Y', then some more uninteresting minigames...
Granted, some people don't mind the running around, and some of the minigames were kinda fun, but overall it just ultimately left me bored.
Same here, no real problem as I remember with the language translation I bought it when it first came out, way back when. I tried to load it on my recent computer but it has a copy protection and Vista won't accept it. Actually I'm was kinda glad. Like most games, it's fun for awhile but then gets repetitive.
I don't remember anything really terrible about it.
But it has been awhile since i played it.
While reading through the mini-game or mission text, you will definitly realize it wasn't writen by native English speakers. That said, there was never an instance where I found it terribly distracting or where it interfered with the game itself. It's a solid throwback to older space-trader or Innerspace-like games, and I reccomend it for the price.
Some of those text-based minigames are mind boggling. And those RTS-styled tactical games can be a nice diversion once in a while. They pay out very nicely compared to the average missions you get, but the mechanics behind them is a bit unpolished, and many of them are brutilly difficult.
I found it more fun, though, if you kind of ignore any sort of missioning and just fly around taking out the baddies and stealing their stuff.
