The time of Diplomacy is over. The length of the war and differing opinions on what should be done to bring the war to an end has led to a splintering of the groups involved. The controlling powers-that-be have depleted arsenals and seemed to have exhausted all efforts of diplomacy. Trapped in a stalemate, sub-factions have rebelled and broken off the main alignments. Rebellion is upon us.
The exciting next chapter in the awesome Sins of a Solar Empire universe has arrived. A full-fledged expansion to the original, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion draws you even deeper into the galactic struggle for supremacy with appealing new factions, terrifyingly cool new ships of all sizes, enhanced lighting and particle effects for increased visual pleasure and all-new victory conditions.
“Rebellion is the first stand-alone expansion to the Sins of a Solar Empire universe,” said Brian Clair, director of publishing for Stardock. “Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion will add many new ships, refresh the visuals and integrate Impulse::Reactor features to support achievements, multiplayer leagues and much more.”
In the original award-winning Sins of a Solar Empire, developed by Ironclad Games, you are the leader of one of three civilizations embroiled in a galactic war, fighting for survival of your entire race against relentless foes. Your success will depend on your ability to manage your empire and command your vast fleets of starships to victory. Players will colonize new worlds, develop extensive trade networks, conduct research, fortify their empires with powerful starbases and fleets of ships, plus control the galaxy using the unique diplomacy system that reacts dynamically to the players’ actions.

WOOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hooray! So when's the beta test / preorder?!?!
Ughughgugh I want it.
I’m as happy as the next persona about this announcement, Glad to see there are going to be new Particle effects and all. I just hope that IC will be adding more variety of planets too. Please don’t make us have to mod those types of things into the game. It would be nice if many of the great mods we all like are implemented into the games engine now while you can. The less modding that has to be done to the game, the better the game will run.
Huzzah! TITANS wooooo I can't wait!
At first I thought it must be April 1 and not March 1.
So, what does "Stand-Alone Expansion" mean? Does it mean that you don't need Sins, Entrenchment, or Diplomacy to play it, essentially making it Sins-2? (And resulting in a flood of new players who never played Sins 1.) Or does it mean that all you need is the original Sins and not Entrenchment and Diplomacy?
Any more details about what the Online Multiplayer might be like? Will it support more than 10 players? (We've often had enough people to fill 6v6 and 7v7.)
It sounds like it will be fully integrated with Impulse Reactor (whatever that is). Does this mean that it will have built-in voice comm?
It's great news and I fully support and back the "It's finished when it's finished" approach. Take your time guys and get it right so that it can be released fully polished the first time.
SInce its prolly using the same engine, Ima call it Sins 1.5
So, I posted an announcement about this at another gaming forum and the very first response was a one-liner:
Well, how 'bout it? The single player crowd has been clamoring for this ever since the game came out. Maybe a custom campaign editor could be included?
So that would mean no multi-threading?
No to multi-threading as that would take a couple years of testing. Also, there are no plans for a single-player campaign.
Awesome. I take a short break and the sins universe explodes. Bad Syneptus.
Modding will still be allowed, correct?
tooo aweesomeee!!!!!!
Most likely. They wouldn't take that away from us when that was one of the big selling points.
Is that screenshot official?
Well it sounds to me like they are trying something like Supreme Commander's "Stand-Alone Expansion". Same engine/same races, but a lot of new content across the board in addition to new race(s) and mechanics. If its like SupComs you didn't need to get the original to play the expansion.
Awesome! Maybe some updated Eyefinity features can be thrown in there as well.
Please add support for more than 3 types of weapons on a ship, softcode the distance on the computer AI's fleet formations, and I will be content.
Then how is it going to deal with all the new stuff being added without choking a single CPU? I mean diplomacy already does that.

This is the best thing I have heard all day, I can hardly wait! Thanks Ironclad!
There is a god! He heard my prayers
May i make a request or suggestion, could you please, please, pretty please add more planet types then the defaults, im talking Uzi mod style planets or creating new ones. I know there in the mods but i still think it would be nice to come as standard with the game then just a default 4-5 planet types after all this game is all about planet conquering! Much love!
Awesome. I mean really, this is freaking sweet. When does it come out? And yes.. titan ship screen shots..
Look, how many guys you got working on this project thing.... 10?20?30? eeish?
and you want it done in late... 2011... about 200 days? eeish?
Well, have I got an idea for YOU!
Go out and hire 1000 programers for a week, and have it done... like... NOW!
and then it would be done! and we would HAVE IT.
Fantastic.
That's a good idea. How hard could it be? They could probably add a few more planet types without much effort. Just two more would be nice.
Lov-a-leee.
I agree with the adding of new planet types. ANd all the other fun suggestions.
