Once upon a time, I played Starcraft with my friends co-op style. While much of that same experience can be had with current games, there was one feature that we enjoyed that I have not seen since. That idea was a shared-team experience, where multiple players all control the same units. While this could lead to arguing if you played with randoms, it was a lot of fun to allocate tasks to different team members.
Is there any current game that offers a similar experience?
that is cossacks2 allowed players to split forces up.
Napoleon total war has a very complex coop campaign. But its complex to explain and I don't think too relavent here.
ya i got the game.
biggest mix of feelings ever.
high end graphics, engine, and sound.
Horrible voice acting. American GIs saying "for the mother country", and other bad translation from russian to english.
Infact the german units speak the best english.
The multiplayer lags and slows down here and there. Not sure to blame coding or the other players. Really got bad in 3v3 mode.
I think its selling well. So if they get funding they can patch it.
Co-op is kind of cool and lame. Basically once you capture a flag and have enough points to buy a unit or units, it seems it goes randomly to the players. So if i buy a tank, that tank will go to someone else and then i end up with a supply truck.
Some guys mentioned Dark Reign, really good RTS but I have no idea about fun co-op mode.
Well, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms has awesome co-op battles, but only player Vs player, since AI is pretty weak if you learn how to beat it. But in 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 online matches, each player choose one of the five completely different fractions and allies could exchange tier 1 builders via a special menu appearing when pressing D, so in the end we had both our race's units and the units of our allies! Trully tremendous online matches these are!
There are also some multiplayer missions on certain maps. I would like to try some of those, if anyone is interested, find me in GameRanger, http://www.gameranger.com/ (sometimes I hang around WarZone instead, http://www.e-warzone.com/).
Rise of Nations and Age of Empires 2. Also the Homeworld Series were fun coop (and the mods for it too!).
I like Supreme Commander because you can share resources, each person can have a separate priority for base building (I make the wall, you make the factories), and although you can't share units, you can build things that work together (such as player 1 making power generators next to player 2's factories so they use less energy). Plus it make sit easier to coordinate waves.
you can give units to allies, at least you can in Forged Alliance. Its under the Diplomacy button.
So you could just build the units and then pass them off to another player.
Okay, that's an FA aspect that I didn't catch. FA also had the mod built into it that allows you to put limitations on what units can be built.
