I'm a big Zombie nut, so I've been watching for Dead Island. I hadn't seen a thread about it here so I figured I'd see if anyone else had anything worthwhile to add about the game. Here's a trailer

(That's the original, "Tarantino" version)

(Here's the same trailer, in a recut linear form)
It looks good to me. I'm hoping for something beyond a campy-arcade Zombie experience. Ideally something more Adult, that brings you into a stricken, fearful atmosphere that most games lack now days.
Strange as this may sound, I couldn't watch the trailer. It was too freaky for me.
Karma for you, good sir.
It's definitely got an emotional tug. Since I'm such a sucker for them, it's probably just the musical score, but the trailer instantly drew me in and made me have an emotional connection to the well animated characters.
I'm hoping for a similar sad, graphic game, filled with hopelessness and fear. Having to hide, make raw choices about risking yourself to try to help others or letting them die.
Shooting waves of Zombies in an arcade-shooter (ala Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising) is entertaining, but there's an untapped market for heart wrenching games. I haven't played a game in a very long time where I had to stop and consider what to do, or what gray moral choice to make. It's all either be good/evil or a jerk/chivalrous knight. Where are my thousand shades of gray?

Shame the game looks like it will be a left4dead/borderlands thing with all main characters being imune to infection.
Very cool video though.
The PC's almost have to be immune, as it becomes a 1 hit-game over scenario. I'm still looking forward to the game, and I hope it's at least half as emotionally wrenching as the trailer posted above.
I was disturbed too... All those Zombies where just hungry and what does that a-hole with the axe do? He starts chopping them up. When the one gal lost her hand trying to defend her friend I choked up
I wonder if that's just one trailer for one PC (the woman).
Be cool to see the others if they provide as dramatic a story as this one did.
WOW!!! That was f'king AWESOME!!! Little girl bit by zombie, saved by daddy, turned into zombie and then killed by daddy. SWEET!!!! I'm buying this game just because of that trailer. Now those are some game devs with BALLS!!!! About damn time
It is a trailer though, not the game itself. The trailer was like a 3 minute film, very well done, but it wasnt what the game looks like.
rofl Rus. I feel for ya
I got bored about halfway through. Seen one zombie hack n slash trailer, you've seen them all. Nobody killed any puppies or kittens in that. To really get the juices flowing you need to kill puppies and kittens. And laugh about it afterwords. The laughing is very important.

Lol. Don't get too excited. Turns out that the trailer has very little to do with the game:
"Only thing is, this isn’t really a game trailer in the traditional sense. It’s not a series of clips from the game. It’s a short film that takes place in the world of Dead Island.
“This trailer is meant to be illustrative of a scenario that might befall a typical vacationing family on the island,” a representative for publisher Deep Silver told Wired.com. Though the trailer is said to capture the game’s solemn tone and setting, it is not the same thing."
I hate when trailers do that. Some awesome trailers I have seen but YouTube the gameplay and its absolute crap. Left 4 Dead was good, almost seamless from trailer to game start. One of my favs.
But for me that is the whole essence of zombies, it should be a one hit situation.
It's that sinking feeling when someone in a zombie film gets bitten, that even if theyre not dead, that's it they're buggered and there's nothing you can do about it.
That said, im not saying the game wont be good, L4D was good. But it was a good as a coop monster shooter, not a zombie game. (for me anyway)
