There has been a lot of talk lately about scripting and dll modules coded in C++. What I want to talk about is:
What if I make a new game with Elemental's engine that could be sold on it's own.
Will it be possible to release the game commercially by giving royalties to stackdock for their engine?
Would Stardock be interested to publish the game through their Impulse platform with little or without fees to be paid from the developpers?
I don't mind if Stardocks analyze the game before deciding if yes or no they want to publish the game. A bit like how free lancing works.
I am not sure exactly ho much it cost for Stardocks to publish game via impulse, but I thought that since it's their game engine and their distribution platform, it might be much cheaper for them.
I once asked if Stardock would be doing this- and I believe they said the engine would be for internal use only.
I asked this a while back, and didn't get much of a reply.
I quite fancy having a go at designing a strat game. I doubt I'll ever finish it, but I have lots of little game mechanic ideas I wish people would use in their games. So I thought I might as well try it myself. But as Ele modding support is still near non-existent, I've decided to play around with Unity3D for the time being. Which is hard work, but at least my intelligence is the only thing stopping me implement my ideas.
This is just a guess but...
From what they said, I gather they will be licensing out the engine for Elemental once they spend a bunch of effort making it accessible to other programmers. I suspect that if you are going to sell a game using the engine they would want some sort of cut, but if you are making a free game they may let you use the engine for free.
Its too early to tell but i would say it has a good chance of happening.
