LAst night I started a game and cranked all of the settings to max, picked random multi-stat large map and set all the sliders to fast. The result so fas has been a rousing success. I periodically checked the ram usage and sure enough the game was maintaining a steady 1.3 gb throughout. I even cranked the speed to 4 after I gained some strength and left the game running for 4 hours. No crashes reported and the bigger sweetness was the game was not majorly lagging at mid to late game - which has been the bane of my existence with Sins since the earliest betas.
So far its been a silky smooth experience
This is excellent news
finally
Indeed.
Could you post replay?
I think he might have just been goofing around trying to test it on a large scale over a prolonged period of time.
Somewhere, I saw a post suggesting 150 star maps being possible now. I was intrigued how a game on that scale might unfold, so I decided to make a map. I didnt get 150 stars because I simply got too tired of making the stars and adding planets. I used the in game generator and my method was add a default random star, add 4 default random planet groups. I did that to 50 stars (set for 2 players each) to make a 100 player map. Plus I had 1 star that just had a pirate base. I could view it quite nicely, and decided to play it. had over 1000 planets. Default phase lane distance ticks me off... it took forever to get anywhere. map looked quite cool. Like a giant eye on the right zoom. Everything started just fine.
After three hours I started having issues: game would lock up for a split-second before resuming. as the game went on, it got more and more prevalent and i think locked-up for longer. I'm guessing the (probably exponential) growth of interacting objects is what caused the problem. I think that because when paused, there was no slowdown, lock-ups or any of that; Instantly the UI was fluid. I quit when most of the time the game was locked up.
Are hangers on bandit worlds new?
No, they've always had a chance to appear, but only with the map designer, not random maps.
I'm getting freeze for a few second and resume thing on random multi star player map with vicious AIs. Once all fleets reach maximum points and I believe all planets slots are full. Game managed to get to1.5 MB RAM.
I've managed to stay below the 1.5 Gb but as it gets close to that after letting it run for hours on end I'm still getting some lag. Though it is multitudes better than it was before!
^Pretty much same here. I started noticing some fraction of second stutters about 5hrs in to a game on Ancient Gifts.
