GAME DAY UPDATES:
The tourney is over:
iamKira and ppapanek win!
Here’s the latest info on the tournament. Please review this if you are participating:
We’ll be running some practice tourneys over the next few weeks to try out a new site that we’ll be using for our tournaments going forward. One of the benefits the JeeLounge site is that it makes it very easy to create tournaments with specific rules, upload replays, and track stats. We had a small practice tournament on 2/6/2011 that was reasonably successful. So far, we’ve had about 25 folks from the community register on the Jee site (Plays/Sports/Lounge), so I expect we’ll see even more participation in the this upcoming practice tournament on 2/20/2011 at Noon EST.
Well, first and foremost, we are going to have a series of these tournaments. I’m planning for 2 more practice tournaments and then we’ll get back into having some cash prize tournaments. So, consider these next 2 tournaments as just for fun, if you like, but just be aware that there is no cash prize for the practice tourneys.
What is the schedule?
What are the rules?
Each tournament will have varied rules that will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.
Here are the rules for the practice tourney on 3/6/2011 Noon EST (FYI – this is an ALL WELCOME tournament)
If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below. You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.
You will not need to repeat those steps again for future tournaments once you have registered.
So now you have a membership on the Jee sites. Here’s what you need to do next to participate in the tournament:
Here are folks that indicated they’d like to play but have not locked down teammates:
Here are the registered teams:
Well cow said he might play but wont be on at noon.
Were sticking with noon for this practice tournament. We could be more flexible for the following 3v3 tournament, but probably not by much. I think noon might be the sweet spot for time for most timezones. Speak up if otherwise.
Okay, the super-losers final is finally played. We won. I know I should upload the replay to JeeSports somehow, but I failed to do so
That's a link: http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=188813
A short commentary: Dark and Ins went a daring double QoT combo. I know what they were trying to achieve, and late game double GS really made a difference. However, me and nnnils, we are just too l33t!!! Ha! Just kidding. Was a fun game, thank you for such a bold (and partially successful, I think) experiment, guys.
As a complimentary side note: I_htya told me yesterday it was very tough to win double Rook vs your team's double QoT. So here you go, nothing wrong with your combo, just bad game.
I give up. Was trying to upload the freaking replay to JeePlays for an hour. It keeps saying: 'Please enter team and member info'. I've entered the $%$#%#ing info seven hundred times, I swear, but it just clears all the fields and forces me to begin the whole process anew. Please help! I already want to lose next time, so the poor winner would have this headache.
heh... i think kira said he was going to try close that old tournament down, so that might be why you are having problems... but if you are just using the jeeplays site itself outside of the tourney, then i don't know. Perhaps they have prob. You should probably post over there in their forums and describe the issue and I'd wager they'll sort it out. I haven't had any problems uploading replays there yet...
Some thoughts about the future tournaments:
I have every intention of keeping all of the upcoming tournaments very brief. We ARE NOT going back to tourneys of old that drag out for weeks. In fact, we'll very likely be sticking with single elimination and everyone should be under the impression that the tourney's will end the day they began. We'll likely add something to the rules indicating that the winners from the previous games will be expected to be available until their opponents are ready for the next match (this is exactly what everyone did in our first practice tourney, without a rule, but I think we should add some rules so we can instantly dq teams as needed) and that the game should begin no later than 15 minutes after both teams have finished their previous games.
Another thought - the actual level of participation will likely determine if we will go with single elimination or increase things to the best 2 out of 3. For now, single elimination works best and enables us to move swiftly through the games. If I remember right, our last practice tourney (where we only had 5 2v2 teams) was completed in about 2 hours total time. Anyway, single elimination also means there is a very small time constraint if your team loses right away, too. You will have spent 30-50 minutes and then you are done. If we had gone the best 2 out of 3, then the entire tournament even with just 5 teams, would have probably taken 4-5 hours.
We could also adopt another idea, that might be really good for us. We could have a set start time for the tournaments games (like we do) AND a set stop time for tournament games. For instance, we could say the games will start at noon EST and end at 5PM EST. If there are still matches left to go, they could be completed the following weekend with the same day and start time EST. That's just another thing we could do so that folks that could likely win it wouldn't have to commit to being around on 1 day for like 8 hours. I'm thinking this is more for cash tournaments than anything else, though.
Anyway, just some thoughts. I'm also a little concerned about the 3v3 tournaments based on the current registration. Could be that some folks are just refusing to play until the cash tourneys start, but it could also be that interest is low. Anyway, we'll sort through all of this.
Hoping to see some more registrations for the 2v2 tourney soon. Its just a week away now.
heh... i think kira said he was going to try close that old tournament down, so that might be why you are having problems...
Nope. Its status is still 'running'. Kira, help us out!
Added renz/orcun as a team
Okay, switched to Google Chrome, and here is the replay: http://www.jeeplays.com/replay/details/1/12
All matches played, so the tourney results should be updated and the tourney itself closed. Currently, it still has a 'running' status.
Marchidanu and TSK-Glagol wish to participate. I've offered them to play as a team, but they aren't sure.
i will look into that.
we could also try some swiss style tourney. same overall length for the tourney but at least people play several times.
I think it's also easier to create the tournament on jeesports way in advance and let teams starting to sign up there.
I'll be creating the tourney on jeesports today and registration will open immediately. I was planning to setup the tourney earlier, but I'm still toying around with dg selection rules in my mind.
Added Marchidanu and TSK-Glagol to the list of folks that want to play but have no teammate yet.
You may add nnnils and me as a team, though he'll need an alt, if it takes too long and we somehow don't get eliminated in the beginning (which I doubt ).
You guys are welcome to have an alt.... just try to line it up in advance. Worst case, you can add an AI. I'll add you as a team.
Doggu - are you playing with an AI in this tourney?
If any of you bump into him, please ask him if he's in or not.
Checked the other thread and adding a_nooblet to the list of folks that would like to play, but have no teammate.
Add Bielasso to the list of players that wish to participate. A very good Reg, btw. If someone wants to play with a good Reg, give Biel a try.
About the AI, Pacov. I think we can keep it Enhanced Mod Nightmare in 2v2. Its power diminishes quite radically, when it's all about flag/portal control, and there is only one human teammate supporting it.
pacov, I will loooove to play in that tourney, however the date and time that this tourney is taking place is the exact same date and time the motogp season kicks off. I am a huuuuge fan of the event, it will not be fair to my teamate if I register and don't show up for the game. And of course will not ask anybody to work their schedule around me. Thanks for keeping this game alive guys, It is one of my favourite games!!, for now all we can do to support it is keep playing.
I'd agree to hard AI, but not nightmare. So, that's what it will be. AI HP and gold will still be on normal. That seems appropriate based on numerous games with an AI teammate.
Still toying around with some fun rules in my head for dg selection. Getting close to having that sorted.
ok bud - I'll remove you from the list. Hopefully next time, then.
I'd agree to hard AI, but not nightmare.
I say we should have a test 2v2: 2 humans vs human + Nightmare. My educated guess is Nightmare is MUCH less scary in 2v2, Pacov. It's basically still 1v2 when it comes to portal game. All the tests we have run were HUGE games (3 humans + 1 or more Nightmares on each team): it's a different game with a different balance. I agree Nightmares are way OP in such games, but 2v2, where what really matters is mobility and map awareness, not having loads of hp and armor? Don't think so.
Okay, some more PR done. Renfri wants to participate, possibly with Nastyblade as a partner (if the latter will be able to make it). The One team guys are thinking of participation, too (I've spoken to Green-One). Maybe we will have a better participation rate this time.
Thanks for the in game advertising - much appreciated.
Sooo........ I've decided on the rules for this tourney. I think it will likely prove intesting.
That's hilarious. ~70% of our small community cannot play anything else competitively. Oh, sorry, you've left them Rook as a last beacon of hope. All hail Rook+Sed vs Rook+Sed tourney! Or not. The second player is not limited to support chicks and weakling assassins now, I take it?
heh... I really hope that doesn't wipe out 70%... jeeze... that's... not good.
hmm... wonder if I should add tb to the list of allowable doubles.
