I've been interested in SOASE since before release but I'm only interested in buying games digitally and my platform of choice is Steam. So the question is are you ready to release this on steam yet?
I'm still willing to pay full price but don't want to use impulse or any other DD service...Sins has been out for about 3 years now so I wonder how much longer I have to wait.
Many people say that it'll never be released since you only want it available on impulse but EA wanted the same with their download service and the EA games are now available on ALL DD service providers.
I may sound stubborn but there's millions of gamers who stick to their DD service of choice and I'd like to know when is Sins going to become available to all these millions of gamers who are still waiting.
Here's some old posts I've made about the subject:

The CEO of Stardock said that Sins of solar empire will go onto steam when portal, team fortress 2, and all those other steam-exclusive games get on impulse.
SO, unless you can convince your steam friends to break a deal with Brad, its probably never going to happen. So, basically, you have three options.
1. Buy Sins on Impulse today. You get the best strategy game of 2007, 20th best game of the decade,(https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/404714) + 2 expansion packs. Ya, so you don’t like impulse. guess what, I have good news for you! As soon as you finish installing sins, you can delete impulse from your hard drive, and the game will run fine. (Try doing that with steam).
2. Wait about ~20 years for sins to become abandon ware. It still won’t be on steam, just on your local abandon ware site.
3. Wait for some magical deal between valve and stardock, or one of the companies goes under. something intresting might happen then.
Besides, you don’t want the GOTY edition anyway, you want Trinity.
Seriously. I know you dont want to. But, I think you can force yourself to have impulse on your computer for a length of time no greater than overnight while you download the game. When I first got SINS, it was like.... I have to do this impulse thing? seriously? why?... grr... But, I suffered though it, and TRUST ME, it was WELL worth it.
Platform loyalty, IMO, is a really bad reason to not get Sins. Nobody said you HAD to start using Impulse all the time - I only use Impulse to keep Sins up-to-date and it has been so far been mostly unobtrusive (only one window shows up at the bottom right corner each time I start up my computer.
Impulse will allow for offline play, does not force you to update your games (it even gives you the option to archive old versions before updating), and if you really don't want it, download and install just for Sins, then you can remove it later. Impulse is not required to play Sins.
Well, I'll give you credit for consistency (jeeze you started this rant on May 18, 2008).
I have steam and impulse and neither is running unless I choose to start them up. Your decision limits your ability to play games. Fortunately, I don't have the same O.C.B. as you and am willing to purchase my games from whatever reputable company I wish.
I am leary of buying retail games though now, and wouldn't buy any game over amazon that I might envision playing online or wanting updates for. Why? I've already been burned buying retail games only to find the key was hacked and then spending weeks trying to resolve that I was the original purchaser of the key and not some douche bag that hacked it.
If I want a boxed game now, I'll buy it from the DD sight along with the immediate digital download.
I believe that DD is definately the way to go but I am glad that companies make hard copies available to those that want them.
I haven't bought a hard copy since the last time I installed the sims 2 for my g/f. A total of 13 cds/dvds plus about ten keys and patches....that really was the last time I messed with hard copies.
As for Sins: I can understand your argument about the whole exclusive thing with steam but that doesn't explain why I can't get sins from any OTHER DD service.
So why am I so obsessive? who knows...I want to limit how many programs I install on my pc and uninstalling a program is usually worse than just leaving it there, uninstallers are so half arsed and I hate having to fix issues that they can create. So why not just leave it running? well resources are being used up that don't need to be used.
Does this count as a rant? Don't rants count as being just short temper tantrums and not an actual discussion about the pros and cons that we the public have to deal with?
Yes, you sound a bit angry. There's not much to discuss in the matter as Stardock has already stated when they will offer games on Steam. Further more your premise that DD's systems should all somehow offer the same games is devoid of any reality. Imagine if other industries had to operate in this fashion, we could all get McDonalds from Sonic or Chinese from Mexican restaurants. Damnit, I should be able to get an iPhone from Sprint. I like Sprint and Sonic and should only have to buy my food and phones from them...
It sounds silly when you apply it to other industries, why gamers feel DD's services should cater like this just doesn't mesh with me.
hahaha, silly avp2501, sins is for Impulse.
Impulse seems to be completely benign. The only time I ever run it is when I want to update the game. Also, even if Sins were available on Steam or if you purchased a physical boxed copy, you would still need to install Impulse in order to patch the game. (Part of the DRM is that you need to register your CD-key with Impulse in order to get patches and to be able to play it in online multiplayer.)
If you really want to play Sins, don't let having to get Impulse stop you.
Did we really need another thread to say the exact same thing as the last one? The same things will be said again, and this thread will accomplish absolutely nothing. Sins will never be on Steam or anywhere else. Deal with it.
So do you insist on only buying your console games from Gamestop, and would refuse to buy a game you've been waiting 2-3 years more for over 50% cheaper just because its a little bit farther to drive to BestBuy? Your position is highly illogical, even your fellow steam users would tell you that if you pretended to be an impulse user and was upset you couldn't get portal. It is the exact same reason why you will never see Super Mario Galaxy for the Xbox or Halo on the PS3. Just be glad that competing digital platforms are free, while if you want one exclusive for a different console you'd have to pay a couple hundred dollars.
Again, competition is a great thing in the video game market, so it makes no sense to insist on giving one company a monopoly over your business.
Also note that what's nice about Sins is that the game is 100% DRM free other than having to use Impulse to patch and to register to play online. No CD KIlla or Starforce or install limits or other crappy DRM to put up with.
nobody is obligated to pander to your unwarranted sense of entitlement, so get off your high horse and stop making a fuss about a non-issue
LMAO! you think you have to always have impulse installed or running in order to play games you buy from impulse! Thats sooo funny because you do have to do that if you buy from steam and you have only ever used steam. HAHA thats seriously got me laughing hard and just illustrates the reasons why I dont use steam anymore and only buy from impulse ever since I found out about it!
Thats right you can buy sins install it with the latest freeking version then you can totaly uninstall impulse and sins still works fine! Even if you dont uninstall Impulse you wont even know its on your comp because when you load up sins impulse does NOT load also! On top of the fact Impulse does NOT load itself when you turn your comp on! Did I mention Steam does all these things!
Oh and on a side note you will never find Sins on steam just like you will never find team fortress on impulse. Why you might ask? Because the company that runs Impulse (stardock) makes Sins and the company that runs Steam (valve) makes team fortress! Thats like buying an EA game from Ubisoft! Never gonna happen!
Steam is annoying. I have to shut it down for I can shut my computer down for the night. Meanwhile I don't even realize Impulse is there until I get an update or buy a new game. The irony here is I fully understand the desire not to buy anything connected to Steam. Its like say I don't want to buy anything with that ball and chain on it. Impulse? well having Impulse is like having a white dot on a vanilla colored board and saying you don't want it for that reason sounds kind of lame. Some people are just to picky.
Perhaps some cool screen shots might convince you?
Here a sample of pictures I have:
One of Carbon's TEC Galleries
Now dont delay Go get Trinity TODAY!
the "hoho epic shot" was quite amazing. The akkan shot was also quite good... but the targetting uplink is quite distracting... when i play games to get screen shots, i always make sure to not upgrade targetting uplink, lolz.
Alot of those were DS mod though, heh.
So? a good plug doesnt hurt. It still shows the potential awesomeness of the game.
Well I cant help what the AI picks for abilities. And to be honest i need to upload more. Ive just been MIA from the SINS universe for awhile. At any rate...Topic hijack over.
Troll.
yes he is but it allows us to spout off at Steam
I'd just buy it for you on impulse, but as you won't use their damnable client, I guess you're SOL. Long live steam.
Lol, you again?
Sins will never be on Steam.
Full stop.
Lol, yes me again
Sins will be on Steam.
Sins is on Steam.
Sins is now bought on Steam.
Sins is currently being played by me on Steam.
Now what was so hard about that?
Lmao. Well in all seriousness I'm glad that after waiting so long you finally got what you wanted. Hope to see you around these forums now talking about the game itself and not just its distribution system.
