The v1.2 BETA for Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity/Diplomacy players is now available! This update makes some changes to the game's engine and other core systems, so we're opting to release it as a beta before making it final.
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH USING UN-FINISHED UPDATES, DO NOT INSTALL THE BETA.
Since this is a beta, it may be buggy and do unforeseen things. If you're not able/willing to help test this out and risk strange things happening, please wait until we release the final version.
WARNING: THE BETA WILL INVALIDATE YOUR EXISTING SAVE GAMES!

How to provide feedback
For gameplay related feedback, please post it in a new thread on these forums. One issue per thread, please - that'll make it easier to keep track of things.
If you encounter a crash or a multiplayer desync we will need you to send in some information to sinssupport@stardock.com.
For crashes: Send us your PC's dxdiag report, the Sins mini-dump file, and your latest save game. Please also provide us with any information or details you can about what was going on before the game crashed and if the issue is reproducible.
For desyncs: We will need the last saves for all the players involved and as detailed a description of what was going on at the time the desync occured. Also, please indicate if the desync is reproducible from your last save point.

It seems a pity that the dominance of the carrier capitals has not been addressed in this version, though we've been told that there is another patch planned to deal with the relations system and perhaps other remaining issues can be dealt with then.
JJ's suggestion that the carrier capitals should have to pay some AM to rebuild squadrons, perhaps not as much as carrier cruisers, seems very reasonable. When you have free stuff it rewards spam and negates skill. The carrier capitals have been king for a very long time.
An adjustment to capital movement speeds has also been suggested by many of the multiplayer modders and should be simple to implement. Carrier capitals are favoured because they can kite LRF while carrier cruisers cannot. They can also kite the anti-capital capitals that are supposed to be able to destroy them.
I'm not in favour of placing more emphasis on capital ships, but I would like more of them to be viable in the early game. It may be that the siege and perhaps support capitals should not be as useful early on because this could lead to problems, but to have a triad where the colony capitals have an economic advantage, the carrier capitals an advantage clearing militia and against fleets and the battleships an advantage against capitals seems realistic? Then the battleship element of the triad still needs improvement.
Still, it has been good to have more commitment to Sins and the game should be much improved for it.
Would recommend a speed reduction to carrier caps as a minimum change.
Carrier Caps are the only type that can deal damage without being in harms way.
Here are some old threads discussing refinery cost effectiveness.

I never play 10 player multistar games lol, those take forever to finish.
Those refinery threads are very interesting. I have rarely used them due to the community's consensus that they arn't worth it... however those figures showed something else (in certain circumstances).Cykur, you seem to have looked at this in depth, how many mines does it take for you to consider a refinery? (Assuming mid-sized game, longer than 2 hours, where refinery tech is already researched, i.e. no tech amortization).
its fixed. can login now
Yeah, I've been defending refineries forever.....I'll generally build them at a crossroads if there are at LEAST 9-10 extractors covered and I need minerals. If there are 15+ extractors I definitely build one, in fact I will try to build 3 to make sure that I have full coverage. The greater cost means they may not be worthwhile in a short game (less than 1 hour), but if you play longer games, the cost becomes negligible over the life of the refinery. If you get a super long trade chain of 25-30 trade ports, they start to become more profitable since you can just buy the minerals...but lets face it, if you have a 30 trade port chain, your economy is no longer your chief concern.
Does anyone know if the Hotfix was the last official patch? Or is there still one more final official patch waiting in the wings, before they fully concentrate on creating/launching Rebeliion?
The hotfix is not an 'official' patch, it is a beta patch, therefor there still is the official update patch to be created and released.
Thank you Stant.
No prob.
When building refineries, you either build 3 (and a trade port to not disrupt trade routes) or none at all. Even at an asteroid you could make a starbase to continue the trade port and make 3 refineries
Trinity is just the base game plus the Diplomacy Upgrade. So you can download the Diplomacy Upgrade for the base game, if you have the base game, on impulse. It's the same thing as buying trinity.
If you don't have the base game your better off buying trinity in target or something for $30.
Great job Stardock! I originally bought SINS at Wal-Mart. Then I beta-tested Entrenchment via Impulse and got the upgrade that way. Now I am enjoying Diplomacy 1.2. I am impressed with how you moved all the ideas/feedback on the Beta of Entrenchment into a final version, and I am impressed with the 1.2 version of Diplomacy (the pirates were too hard before...). All I have to say is WOW, great game! At the risk of getting sniped by a Ghost... I think it's better than StarCraft. I keep coming back to it every time I'm done with another game.
