I traded 507 of my diplomatic capital for 1000 gold (which was all their money). Now their broke and ripe for the taking! Might want to fix this too on the AI Brad!
It seems like this is going to be a weird part of the game until diplomatic capital actually has an inherent value. So, let's come up with a reasonable use for it. Let's give it enough utility so that a player would actually want to trade for it.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Population boom: Everyone wants to migrate to countries with significant cultural and political power. Factions are ranked from most capital to least. Factions get a bonus to prestige for all cities, based on the rank.
2. You can buy something with it.
2a: To recruit heroes
2b: To build special buildings, embassy's etc
3. Monster density is effected by the rankings. The factions with the most capital, tend to be more civilized, and therefore have less roving brigands, etc.
4. Trade modifiers: Trading from inter-faction caravan routes gets a bonus based on capital rankings.
What else?
i wouldn't call it an AI problem, at some level it's a design issue. "AI issue" would imply there's a cost/benefit function that is leading the computer players to make a suboptimal decision. but i believe, they're programmed to always give you any amount of money for the diplo point. there is no decision being made, and no cost/benefit analysis possible because the points are actually worthless (to the AI)
maybe treating "all assets fungible with gold" is a holdover from galciv, but here, the AI can't just jack up a tax slider to get its gold back
I would prefer having the reverse. The world is a ruined mess... and that chaos resists the re-ordering of the world. So it attempts to sink the land back into a wasteland by destroying what you've worked so hard to build. Course, thats only my opinion
But then, the player would just trade all his diplo points away for all the computer's gold.
Hic.. not me... I find its pretty easy to stockpile a huge reserve of gold via goody huts (stealing my enemies goody huts is very much a part of that) & the gold that my cities produce... plus I would like to fight more high powered monsters & creatures in the late game. But I quess your right, some players would do that...
