I just red this post wich is locked out for replys. https://forums.elementalgame.com/347311
This is fucking BULLSHIT . fuck this country and there wack ass laws and regulations. i said this countrys goin to shit 10yrs ago, then we got bush for president then we got osama for president, now there sending people to jail for making a website. whats fuckin next, i say we support them some how by doing mass priated material handouts and every retail software store with free pb logos on each case,
i understand support smaller companys but cold day in hell im giving EA another penny of my money for the crap they push out wiht there 6month pc game deadlines.
In which alternative universe are you talking about there?
I think when before you but a car you always take it for a test drive, before you buy a house you check out the neighborhood and if you go to a restaurant for a diner and in the end something is wrong with it in most restaurants they at least give you 50% discount for the dish or take the dish completely off the bill.
Especially in restaurant consumer happiness is priority before anything else and word of mouth good or bad is priceless or potentially destroying for your business. I know that because i own one.
And yes you can read reviews of games movies etc but you need to know that most publications get paid to make a review in first place and as publication businessmen you don't want to alienate your future clients by negative reviews. So they do it either by pointing at only positive and omitting negative or downright lying. I take them as a commercial and let me ask you do you believe commercials.
As it comes out not everyone likes same things and complete impartiality in our world run by feelings is impossible
Major example for above for me would be SC2. Everywhere you went there were positive things written about it and yes i did try it at my friends. He made a mistake of buying it. We played it for total 2h or so. Was it worth the money he spend..... 30+£ for 2 hour entertainment. Well it all depends how much of it do u have, what your attitude toward money is and what your priorities are.
The only review I trust is "review" of a person i know and by spending time together with this friend in most cases you end up trying before buying.
Are you really arguing against the basic economic principal that when money loses value it hurts most the people with money saved up a lot more then people without it.
Right, and see I agree with you and that's the part of where the minsunderstanding was. I was not saying that inflation was causing tech prices to go down. I was just comparing tech prices between then and now and saying they are lower then they used to be. But if your comparing prices over such a long period you have to make some adjustment for inflation in order for the numbers to be meaningful.
Let me state that the fundamental of principles of economics are fault at best. Now, that said, let me state as well, yes, inflation hurts the poor far more than the rich, and it is well understood fact of life. While the rich may have a larger devaluation of currency due to the fact that their net currency is much larger, they tend to be vested in ways to insure their money grows with inflation. This can not be said for the poor man, and in fact, any price increase is not usually paired with a general pay increase, meaning the poor man is not paid less but must use more to buy essential goods and services.
Actually after doing some research it looks like your right. The rich tend to be more strongly tied up in assets that retain their true value in inflation so it effects them less. There was a time when it was the other way around due to the fact that for example your bank or mortgage debt could be rendered meaningless by a bout of hyperinflation. But now these things tend to be tied to inflation values. So I guess my information there was outdated.
The fundamentals of the principles of economics is the study of people and how they react to a finite amount of resources. There is nothing "faulted" with that. However, the conclusions that are drawn from those studies and the fact that there is usually 1 sometimes 2 "schools" of thought on the matter can be questioned. Economist rarely agree on anything. Economics is a hotly debated topic but... not according to CNN, Fox News, and politcians, so I can see how some may not see it that way.
edit: you might be referring to using the ideal of perfectly competitive markets to explain a number theories, which of course doesn't exist for a number of reasons. This is certainly a flawed approach, but it is also one that is mentioned when you are taught economics. Economics is a social science but the approach is a bit more scientific in that if you read reports, studies and data from an economic source, not a political one, flaws and limitations are often mentioned.
Because that would be like taking the original copy of the Mona Lisa and defacing it. I'm pretty sure that would earn you a hefty charge and a great deal of hate by people all over the world. Then again, none of that would matter, as your Zerg army would be taking over the world, and you can make or break all the laws you want.
No, child. When prices go up, it's those with the least amount of money who are the most affected. They are forced to buy less of what they need. Forget luxuries, like computer games. Those with a lot of money are the least affected because they have enough of a surplus that they can go on doing as they had been doing before. In other words, their "portfolio" drops from 10 million to 8 million. Whoopty-do.
Your statement that the poor are least affected by inflation is one of the most stupid things I've come across relating to economics (and that includes speeches from Sarah Palin, btw). Do you think about what you write, or just type whatever fluff that pops into your head?
Im mad at DRM or whatever i so wanted to play SPORE and all its little expansion packs, only i wont because of the lame protection on it. The only way i know of to play it without the worrying about whether it will install again is through a pirated copy, im not sure where the law stands but id be happy to but it and THEN get a pirated copy so i didnt have to worry, put me right if im wrong but im sure your allowed a backup of your software if its for your own use? On the same note, certain games are only released in certain countries, case in point GOTHIC II the euro version is shit, the best version is the US one that has all the speech and better patches, so if you enjoy your games what are you to do?
Thanks

Now there's the scratch we all know and love.
This is not a piracy issue but a legal one. A company was sued because it was used as a medium for the act, they did not commit the act itself. If this P2P service could be successfully sued then everyone could be successfully sued for any crime.
That's completely uncalled for. Faded already admitted he made a mistake which is more than what most people would do in a similar situation on an internet forum. He hasn't stooped to calling people names and slinging insults so there is no good reason for you to jump on in and do it.
Well technically both of you are correct. The rich have the most of what is devalued and would be most affected by what is now a ton more worthless then before.
The poor would be more affected lifestyle wise as their lifestyles are based on paycheck to paycheck, and less will come in.
And btw, leave the Sarah Plain hate parade on another forum, um k? I know you liberal types, and I'd be willing to bet Sarah Palin is not nearly as stupid as you love to go on about. You know why?
Because I am on the deans list at school. I excel at english, mathematics (esp. physics), among other things. I am an IT who yes, is an expert of Windows, obviously, but also has an expertise at such things as Red Hat Linux, slackware, gentoo, and fedora among others. I also can do minimal c++ programming (Although I mostly can do html), and I have a genius level IQ.
Does any of this matter? Not really, UNLESS YOU GO ON A FORUM TO EXPRESS YOUR OPINION. I have gone on forums with liberals, and said I am from the south and conservative. Once those two are mentioned, all hell breaks loose, and liberals no longer care for your IQ capabilities, or anything you know.
I have been called before by people like you:
Inbred redneckInbred country fuckinbred retardcountry retard
I have been told that:Georgia is full of poor rednecks that work on farms (Seriously now?)I don't know anythingI am stupid for no other reason then being conservative and in the south
The liberal hate parade always has such a large vocabulary... And yes, I get a ton of hate just for being in the south and conservative, and most liberal types don't give me the time of day after knowing these things.
Unlike most liberals, I am actually open minded. I would love to know what Sarah's actually intellectual capability is then just bash her because of her beliefs. But again, that requires you to actually be open minded.
And just as an FYI, when forums are more or less filled with liberals, they begin to look less like a forum for intellectual thought, and more like an Xbox live gaming session, due to hateful type crap aimed at southern and conservative people.
I don't think its even posible for my neck to turn red....or any other color for that matter, but what do I know I am from georgia? I mean its not like I'm in one of those fancy whatcha ma call its that those yankees can go to after the sixth grade. Its also not like I am studying my craft of both entertainment and classical illutration from a master who's been in both worlds for many years. Noo I can't do any of this since I am from georgia.
(LMFAO, Sorry I just couldn't resist.)
OMG is that truu? Everything I know as a high pitched whiney kid comes from the xbox lives!!!!11111
But yeah, the georgia farm blurb is one of my favorite stereotypes that I've been told. Of all the things people have told me, that one stands out as one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
I have a low threshold for stupidity and the sort of incessant blather some people use just to be the center of attention, I admit it. I find it very annoying when these small minds misdirect a discussion over blatantly false, stupidly blatantly false assertions, such as fadedc did, and does quite often here.
And you're wrong about fadedc admitting he was wrong. He only admitted he was part wrong and just claimed his absurd notion "used to be so":
"Actually after doing some research it looks like your right. So I guess my information there was outdated."
The notion that the poor suffered less from inflation than the rich has always been false. It's not outdated. It's false. What fadedc was doing there was attempting to save face after posting an obvious howler. A howler which his stubborn pride wouldn't allow him to fully admit was false.
I appreciate the effort but it's better just to report scratch and ignore him. He's been the subject of several moderator actions in the past, but it's unclear if Stardock has the ability to ban people from their forums or not.

(Edited the original - I may have originally read too much into that post) What brought all that on?
Anyway, this is all getting way off topic (which is Sweden prosecuting Pirate Bay for being a go-between). The real issue is not really piracy, but prosecuting those who provide a service that could be used for piracy. That opens up a very large Pandora's Box.
Honestly, this type of left/right, north/south blame game does not help anyone. Whatever your political views, geographic location, or otherwise, these types of side notes simply deflect from real and important discussions our world needs to have. I am neither liberal nor conservative, just concerned with a changing world that needs to be addressed.
I don't believe this is as large a Pandora's box as one might think. The truth is that the pirate bay did not have the money or power to fight off a group of multinational corporations trying to not only shut down a site, but also change the fundamental rules and regulations of a foreign nation. This is not to say that such a group would be so successful against much large and more connected institutions. If this same group tried something similar with large telecommunications corporations, like Verizon, Time Warner, or AT&T, they would meet a much more vigorous response both legally and politically. Looking at the how these groups are interacting on this issue, the media industry attempt to make deals to manage this traffic.
The real point which needs to be discussed concerns information. We are living in an age where large corporations have pushed to lock down anything that can even be remotely thought of as property. Books, music, games are only one part of that movement and were in some ways the easiest to define as property. Yet, concurrently, we have had an information revolution and with it, a massive paradigm shift, which has only begun to shape our world. All data becomes digital and the idea of uniqueness of property becomes ambiguous when digital information is so easily replicated. In older times, records, books, and other works of art required special machinery and massive amounts of money to reproduce and distribute throughout a society. It was these costs that drove the initial push for copyrights, as artists required certain protections to allow them to recoup the expense of this process. However, in this digital age, most individuals have the ability to produce and distribute their artwork digitally via low cost and highly available computer parts. For instance, A musician can digitally record a live session, upload the information to his computer, edit his audio, and produce numerous CDs of his music. In fact, there are many independent CD presses, which can be hired to make entire runs of digitally produced materials at reasonable costs. The push to stop piracy does not change this new reality, nor does it undo the information revolution, which has pushed the boundaries of how information is understood. These attempts by major corporation to stop internet piracy have only pushed those, who desire new and more limitless access to information, to design and process new and more limitless systems of access. Consider the evolution of file sharing, FTP (direct/known) to Napster (direct/found) to gnutella (indirect/many found) to bit torrent ( unknown/cluster). Each time, these copyright holders push, a new and more amazing methods of transfer are devised to work around these limitations.

Interesting post. I've noticed how the trend in music is going independent. It still comes with costs, the big boys don't give the independents radio and TV time and shut their work out of the chain stores. But the internet is replacing both broadcast media and stores as a source people use for their music interests. Many artists now offer lower quality mp3 versions of their work for free on their websites and then sell their cds, or downloads, direct, and bypass the music mafia altogether. Making your own music cd is fairly inexpensive. The cost is low enough that many garage bands get them made and sell them at their performances. With internet downloading, the cost to the artist is much lower still. Likewise, making one's own studio is not a multimillion dollar undertaking any more and many artists build them at home, and rent the use out to other artists also. By cutting out the music mafia industry and selling direct, independents can sell their work for much lower prices. A combination of these mp3 give aways and low prices on the cds and HQ downloads can remove a lot of the reason for pirating the work since a lot of pirating is probably due to not being able to afford the high costs of cds. Having these works ready at the click of a few keys also takes a bite out of piracy, since it is handy and much easier than trying to search out the material on the web. It's also safer since you don't need to worry about getting a computer virus.
Piracy is not related to information. Piracy is the new form of '5 finger discount'.
The pirate bay goes down because it was an obvious pirate site. The site was named after piracy, and the owners took the court as a big joke.
You would get raided and go to jail too if you were selling stolen goods as obviously as the pirate bay was giving them away. It's that simple. Making this into an information thing is a ruse and a joke.
There is a world of difference between actual piracy and information piracy. When one steals and item and sells them for a profit, that person is attempting to benefit off the labor of others. When one steals information and gives it away from free, that person is not trying to benefit off the labor of other. Long John Silvers fast food fish has about as much to do with actual piracy as The Pirate Bay. To take a note from the English cultural legacy, Robin Hood was as much more of a pirate as the guys running the pirate bay under your definition, and yet this was a folk hero, delivering the wealth of the nation back to the hands of the masses. However, these individuals are not modern day Robin Hoods, but merely a group of individuals who do in fact believe in the freedom of information. It is this belief that pushed them to mock a legal processes based in other countries.
So stealing is not benefiting off others if you just give it away? What a bunch of bullshit.
You wouldn't mind if I stole everything in your hou8se and gave it away then?
And comparing this to Robin hood or Long John Silver is hilarious. Robin Hood stole from a corrupt government that usurped the crown.
You criminals steal from average joes who work hard to their money when they program games. Try and rationalize, but you are no Robin Hoods, you are the average criminal that tries to rationalize.
Calling theft as freedom of information is why I'm glad that governments are starting to come down on criminals. The only thing you are doing here is stealing things. You would not like it if something passed your things around without permission obviously.
