Distant worlds has some MAJOR BUGS. I can't even play it. I downloaded dist worlds fine. Install OK, net, c++ all seem OK. Open start button. Box comes up, "play game, update, etc. Hit play game, new box, with yellow messages at bottom,"feeding giant K..., refueling pirates, nebulae, etc. Then game CTD, with window about c++ module failed to load during appdomain yadayadaI have Uninstall 2x (via add remove programs) and re d-l, install, with check for net, etc., on. All OK. error message same as above. Tried install to different directory, as per this site, same error message as above. What gives? is this game so buggy you cant get it to start???? C++ IS installed.I even went to MS site, and installed NET 4, sliverlight, and even with that Distant worlds won't go past "play" / window on desktop. i advse people to stay away from this game until matrix games creates a more robust install program.
Took about 12 hours. Seems the net installer that comes with the game clashes with NET as installed. Found a tool (link from Matrix forum) that "cleans' Net. Then did a reinstall, and all seems OK with Distant Worlds. Matrix really should put a note about this issue - with the link, right in the download with the game...
So, please ignore above post ^ I think its addressed.
Seriously, why do you post this here? You should put this is the Matrix forum. Impulse/Stardock will not help you.
I did not have your problem with downloading and installing DW at all.
Seriously, nammafia: Excuse me, I thought other PLAYERS might offer some suggestions / help. I am not really so stupid that i would expect a different company to help me with another company's product! Seriously, there are several OTHER topics here for other games, including Distant Worlds. There are topics here for general PC issues. There are topics here for dealing with PC viruses. etc. etc.
Seriously, since there are other topics posted here specifically relating to Distant Worlds, I therefore suspect that there are some other PEOPLE on these STARDOCK forums that ALSO play Distant Worlds. So I ask for help FROM people/players? Why not?
I have noted that you HAVE NOT posted comments on those other STARDOCK forums asking them why they are posting about Distant Worlds on a StarDock site. Seriously, seriously dude, why pick on me?
Your suggestion about ALSO posting at Matrix is a welcome one (and was done before posting here).

Hi Teal Blue, Yes, I did get it working. I had to use a 'cleaning tool' on the NET software... then reinstall the game. NET has come out with several 'updates' since then... which I have declined to install, becuase I don't want to destabalize DW.
I really enjoy the game, expecially since i can automate large portions of it. It and SwordStars are my fav games right now. I like building and creating in my games - kinda roleplaying, etc. I micromanage the ship designs, etc., I play in a small galaxy, so i can actually keep tabs on what is going on. I have played c20 games to completion. My current game is the first game where the 'nasty bugs' from the past finally showed up. but they seem friendly and trade with me. I suppose they will suddenly go on steroids and attack me? A mystery to me explored.
How do you like DW/RS? I would be happy to read about your experiences.
