As some of you know, over the holidays I like to use my vacation to program (my day job is running the company).
As a result, I have a private .EXE replacement of Elemental for those who want to try it.
The main differences are:
1. Significantly better AI.
2. I think I fixed that crash issue some people have reported
3. More resources
4. AI better at using magic strategically.
5. AI much better at waging strategic war.
6. Resource placement tweaked.
7. Monster spawning favors better over quantity.
Here's a URL for the most recent one:

Just unzip this EXE into your existing Elemental directory to replace the one that's there. You'll need v1.1 for this.
It's really worth it the AI is much better now.
I'm an idiot, I forgot to back up the original 1.1 .exe file. I'll figure somrthing out.
try control z for undo. If you copy pasted it in it might undo it. If you unzipped into the folder it still might do it, but probably not.
You won't miss your old exe.
Loving this build.
I found out a few things just messing around.
On the units that get to zero hitpoints, ifyou take them to a town they regenerate. If they're defending a town, it can't be occupied or destroyed by monsters but they'll just keep attacking over and over and over til they can't attack anymore, or something makes them go away.
And a certain merchant master has untold number of clones out there. Vaneria was the name I think? I just recruited them all and smashed them against an enemy's walls. They wouldn't die... ...and the clones kept spawning...
Also, can Elementium be mined at all? I occasionally end up with 40 units of it but not actually seen anyhting that needs it...and no idea to get more if I did...
Frogboy, found a bug which I believe is with the 1.1c exe. Whenever a unit dies in battle, and then the battle finishes, it shows that units portrait on the top left side where it shows your city and unit portraits. If I click on the portrait it brings me to a foggy area of the map. If I save and then load my game, the dead units portrait will be gone but it is annoying heh.
Also it seems when I alt tab out of the game, my custom sovereign's portrait changes to Janusk for some reason heh.
Who do you really think is sovereign?
I'll add my weirdness observations to the conversation. I believe it is related to the 0 HP bug others are reporting. If I cast call of titans every unit whos ever died is also summoned at 0 hit points. Even if it was no longer visible on the map (ie it may have appeared to be destroyed correctly as it was no longer on the map). These destroyed units are not being cleaned up correctly. They still can be re-summoned after loading up the auto saves. So their data is being saved. These uncleaned up units are basically a memory leak. I'll see about posting the saves later.
Another thing I noticed. I'm currently playing as kingdom. The land doesn't change to green fields when I take an enemy city. I dunno if its supposed to. But if I load an auto save, suddenly all my territory is switch over to nice green fields. I dunno if its slowly supposed to spread or what. It is definitely not working as intended. Against the new AI (on Hard) it makes a difference because they are running around with lord hammers and things. A +20% net swing against an empire civ is huge.
AI is sluggish late game (turn 400) as you've mentioned. Can become unresponsive for 20 seconds or so between end turn clicks.
Now about my current game (medium map, world HARD, 9 AI's on HARD):
I lost my capitol to some wandering monsters early in the game.
I had to rebuild and try to catch up to the AI.
UMBER built several towns around me and basically walled me in with their ZOC.
I didn't feel like paying them off so Umber and Yith declared war on me.
I finally gained traction and took a city from Umber. Stupid me, now Yith had a way to get to me.
Yith took the city from me. I had slightly better troops but he had lots of groups of units. On home turf I wipe the floor with him. When I invade the 20% swing to attack/defense means he wipes the floor with me.
My one city wasn't cutting it and I had not metal. I spent some time in the adventuring techs getting all the resource spawns. Luckily all of them appeared in my zone of control.
This game is taking forever with the turns taking so long due to the AI delay.
With my additional resources and maxed out unit tech I slowly start pushing out.
Even with my Sov decked out in Legendary armor and maxed weapons, he can't auto win battles against AI armies. Normally at this point you could steam roll everyone with your Sov. When their guys all have lord hammers and you fight on their home turf they will win auto-calced battles if you don't bring enough fodder along. You can will in tactical if you can get your Sov on a +10% def square and use spells. Perhaps Kingdom factions I could walk all over but I haven't seen any yet.
I've now crushed Umber, Yith. An with Umbers three additional iron mines I can pump out heavy units at a decent rate.
I'm slowly rolling across the map, the slowness with the AI is the most irritating thing the turns are letting me click a little faster now that a few factions have bit it.
Janusk is just looking for some bum to lead and get things started, later he can start a coup and blame all countries former issues (low food, lack of resources, complete lack of diplomacy) on you!
Hahaha, very good.
I have found a bug in 1.1c. When a unit dies he doesn't disappear from the units bar in the left of the screen.
I have to say I started the game with 1.1 and changed to 1.1c

NEW version:
Hey Frog,
Are you teaching the AI to go after alternative victory conditions?
Will this work with my 1.1c save?

Woot! second christmas!
All my updates work with existing save games. I'm not changing any data in these.
Heads up Brad and all.
The bug where the AI is not seting its self to the world difficulty when you add them to the game appears to be back, ive been playing on 'normal' AI when I though I was on ridicules..
I think that was by design when 1.1 was released - I made the same mistake.
Is the .EXE update automatically unzipped/assigned to the proper folder?
I can't seem to locate the "directory" file.
Can someone list for me the path on C drive?
perhaps it had something to do with being on extreme world and extreme ai, but i think not, perhaps it was ai researching adventure tech, although i doubt it, but i went from spiders straight to death demons in world spawn in the first 50 turns - very odd. Had to restart spears and leather were no match for the death demon.
the exe file goes in the game directory where you installed it
Under a 64bit install you should be looking at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Elemental
under a 32bit
C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental
Hope this helps
I'd hope not, we fought long and hard to get rid of that!
That's not a bug. The AI difficulty has nothing to do with world difficulty. There have been no changes in that area (that would have been a data change). The game will remember the last difficulty setting you have for a particular player.
