Yet I still hear console trolls try to say this. Oh, and general discussion thread; not a flamewar thread guys.
My wallet just ran away! Hold on...
(Lots of good stuff there. Really good stuff. Lots of indy stuff, too, which is the one huge argument why PC gaming will not die.).
A good game should make your brain work, not just your eyes... I have had better experience with Galciv, CivIV, or with a simple chessmaster than any of these good-looking games listed.
However I'm not an FPS-fan, the following image illustrate well what I'm telling:
http://www.digitalbattle.com/2010/11/09/fps-maps-now-vs-then/
FPS? lol most of those were not even a little FPSish. I do agree than games in general need to be more about content and less about graphics/exploding heads. (though there is nothing wrong with high res exploding heads)
Well we got to make difference - if we talking about new releases, they are definetely tends toward "hollywood"-style in pc-gaming, too; but on the other hand, just consider that even the C64 is still living - and we can witness the re-invention of so-called abandonware or retro-games. Even if these are not mentioned by first-line game reviewers, simply because they are paid to review the new-releases; so long live pc-underground
Heh, I know I liked FPS' better when there was no story behind them too. I loved the Unreal Tournament games (well except III) despite them having no story whatsoever. In fact, the series started sucking only when they tried to shoehorn a story into there. Why does my space marine need a personality and emotional baggage between shooting aliens? There's aliens around, they need shooting; there's your plot. Did Duke Nukem bitch and moan about his family or girlfriend? Fuck no, he was just pissed he ran out of bubble gum. And that shooting up his ride thing.
Dear Blackmage,
Sorry seems you didn't get me... Of course I have walked through the list.
The only thing I wanted to point that these new releases of games are more like eyecandy for me, leaving not much space for imagination, combination and "brainwork". That's why I prefer pcgames until say 2006.
I can give another example too, say civ4 vs civ5 - just have a look at civfanatics.com and see it yourself.
If you still think I'm "trolling", well I'm ok to quit now.
Wow, this list of games is sooo huge
There are more games here then I have time to play them
I am really looking forward to 10-20 of them. Game of Thrones and Neverwinter are in top 5 (due to my love for George R.R. Martin and D&D).
But so many others are going to be a delight to play at least for a while
No Storm of War, the IL-2 Sturmovik follow-up? IL-2 is hardly a small franchise, isn't it due next year?
Also, this is a Stardock board, any Stardock games in preparation for 2011? 2010 seems to have been a fairly awful year for Stardock. I was okay for the second Sins expansion to be rushed out as I was confident that it would be given the multiple patches it desperately required, but that just never happened. Elemental even without the issues it seems to have suffered wasn't ever for me as I just dislike turn-based empire games, the endgame with vast forces is just such a grind (Even Totalwar has this problem, but at least the Totalwar battles are more appealing than mere calculation, recreating a historical battle in Civilization wouldn't be very enjoyable.) Demigod got better in 2010, its a good fun game, perhaps needs some final tweaking to make sure that all its elements contribute to the gameplay. Demigod seems far more nearly right to me than Sins in its current incarnation.
I much prefer story-based games, I just find they make for better games. However I also dislike cutscenes, especially when they occur in the middle of play. Your character walks up to a machine, watches a recording, thats a good time for a cutscene. Your character is about to fight the bad guy, that's a poor moment for a cutscene. Half-Life could tell a story without cutscenes at all, you even got to move around during the credits.
I wouldn't agree that the more recent games are poorer than the older ones, but perhaps they are not as much better as they could be- especially the level creation. The best of the older games had an atmosphere that hasn't always been retained with the improved graphics. Some gameplay lessons heven't been retained either. The success of StarCraft might get more companies to look back at older games and bring the great features that they had into a more modern setting.
What I'd really like is for more games companies to make games together with its players, rather than claim that patches are just for bugs. This seems to be referred to as the EVE model rather than the 'big content' model from what I've read, maybe its not as appropriate for non-subscription games. Yet StarCraft seems to be being shaped by its top players- if very much bigger budget and with a huge singleplayer campaign?
ROFL - ahh, the good old days of computer gaming. Remember Redneck Rampage?
I do. Awesome game.
I don't think Duke Nukem Forever can disappoint; at this point, even playing the damn game is a feat worth paying for. If he can take gaming back to a time where fun was all you needed, then it'll have been worth every year of it's development.
As little as PC gaming gives me anymore, I might as well move to consoles.
I have no desire to actually do that, though. The technology train is obviously gimped, if a lot more devs finally get onboard with DX10/11 I'll be impressed.
looking forward to sword star II, Witcher 2, maybe neverwinter nights 4. i loved first two of 2, hated 3rd of 2 (too open ended, no real story...)
Finally broke down (rather got wife's permission for an early Christmas present) and bought one of the new Xbox 360 slims. Only one left in the store was the Halo Reach limited edition so even better.
One of the first games I bought was Fable III - having never played the others was totally impressed with the writing/story telling, gameplay pretty cool too. Went out and picked up Fable II for 20 bucks and enjoying that as well.
I too am looking forward to The Witcher 2 (preordered from them) - still on the fence about the general design of DA2 and ES V (if Steam like Fallout New Vegas the divorce from Bethesda is final).
Funny. They said that in 2007.
They'll keep saying that even after they dumped their PS3s and Xbox 360s for the next model and never admit that gaming for their dumped platform "died".
Isn't it great that the "PC" can transcend generation after generation, changing in components, brands, and power, AND still be called "PC"?
Exquisite.
...you lost me. Personal Computer. It's a generic term for a set of components. What's great about it?
Pc gaming is dead?
Gentlemen if i may be so bold to say that pc gaming is Superior and always will be to a plain console.
And Mass effect 3 is coming out out in a year or two........so.......yeah.
PCs allow gamers to mod. So far, consoles don't. Until console allow players to mod games, they will be unable to kill PC game market.
I followed fable since the fable on xbox, I love the series, I also got a taste of fable 3 a while back and it made me cry since I don't have a 360.....anymore.
Honestly I don't consider it better than Fable 2. I'm not usually the type that marks things down for change, but they crushed my general playstyle.
I think the PC ver is still coming. Eventually.
