hey guys, are you working on a fix for the having to downgrade to the non-beta then back up to the current beta version to avoid a 1.9 gig update?
Also, I always try and post saved games, error logs, custom sov. files, crashes, screen shots etc but I feel like I'm being ignored when I post bugs, nothing is ever done about them.
I have the problem as well, it sometimes works ( = cca 5MB update ), sometimes I have to downloade ~2GB. I estimate I have downloaded more than 15 GB of data now.
I also had to uninstall and re-install from the DVD. The update to 1.1 was 220mb.
v 1.10.052 2 Gb to download, and it's not possible to use the trick (because this is not beta version)
I hope that next not-beta updates won't have this issue, because if it is excusable for a beta, it's not for a regular patch.
And it's not a good advertising for Impulse...
Ok this is getting a bit ridiculous....
So, I have been getting this bug since beta 1.09o. The fix was always to revert to release version, and then re-update. Ok, so today I log in and because the release version is 1.1 this doesn't work anymore.
So I see a solution was to reinstall the game from the DVD. So I completely removed elemental, and ran the disk.
Then I get this message.
"Are you sure you want to remove Elemental and all it's components."
WTF!
I closed it, and made sure it was completely deleted as well as all residue files and folders. Restarted computer.
Same message.
Ok yes, click remove.
Computer thinks about it for a while.
computing space requirements................
"Error.
Could not access network location NO$KEY" (I dont know maybe because the program is not installed in the first place!
seriously WTF! My patience is starting to run thin for this game.
Running win7 64x, tried turning of UAC, still the same.
Cool.. I can not reinstall from the DVD because that just happens to be sitting in a box quite some time away. And this bug is stopping me from trying 1.1
Also, Elemental did set out to download the full 2GB. Percentage wise, it was accurately reflecting how much had been downloaded, and the download exceeded 20MB before I cancelled it, trying to go from version 1.09p
Hello
I have the same problem trying to update from 1.09n to 1.1. Can't downgrade and it always tries to download a 1.99gig patch.
I have Win7 64 and I have tried the verify and the show pre-release versions trick but I have to download the whole game. Don't have enough bandwidth allowance. Is there anyway to get the patch and than install it manually outside of Impulse?
I am going to uninstall the game than re-install off of the disk. Hope this works.
Hi,
Can someone who is having this issue, please post a screen shot of regedit.exe open to this key?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\ComponentManager\UpdateSizes
As another note, once you post that screen shot here, as a test please delete the registry values (on the right hand side) under here:
See if that resolves the issue (causing Impulse to not pull the full file).
If it does, please let us know so we can focus on your screen shot.
Zargon
Here is what I did:
1) I uninstalled Elemental 1.1
2) I restored Elemental 1.09e from an archive under Windows 7 x64 Home Edition (German)
3) Impulse reported a download size of 2,25gb for the update to 1.1
4) I had a look at the registry, nothing in there.
5) I restarted Impulse and it shows a update size of just 45mb
6) I restarded regedit, but nothing changed inside of the registry, looks just like the screenshot above.
puntarenas,
Thank you for the screen shots, however I think you are not seeing the issue right?
Correct me if I am wrong, you are seeing the correct value for the update at 47,55 MB right? We are looking for someone who sees 1.9GB+ in the update size field.
Are you saying when you click update that Impulse tries to pull the 1.9GB+?
If you clicked update when Impulse reported 2.25GB what happens?
Unfortunately I didn't try updating when it showed 2,25gb (screen #1) before I restarted Impulse. I will reinstall again and report back later if it was just a display error or if it actually pulls 2,25gb.
What I can say is that during 1.09 Beta phase I had the issue several times and at least two times Impulse actually started >2gb downloads. After that I never hit the update button again before I got Impulse to show an update size of <50mb (the well known Uncheck-Shift-RightClick-Verify-Check... trick, with or without restarting Impulse... whatever).
Puntarenas,
OK. Please try that and let me know. Basically, Impulse will recalculate when you hit the Update button. So even though it says the update is 2.25GB, if you leave Impulse open long enough that value will update. Instead of waiting, just click the update button and you should see a new value when the download starts. That is the actual size of the update.
Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the 2,25gb download glitch anymore, this time it showed me the expected download size of 45mb right after restoring 1.09e.
Sorry for the "spam". I hope you get some more helpful feedback soon and thanks for looking into that bug. As it hit me before with real 2gb downloads I would love to see it beeing hunt down forever.
Thank you for your input. We will not give up until we find the issue. Glad to hear you are not experiencing the problem anymore.
I have only one value there:
dxp$3.50.060$$3.91[b].048$[b]$ 29800963|1|35976520|1
I can't check if deleting it will solve the issue, because I made the full 2 Gb download, so now I'm updated.
I will test with next update, if the issue will not be solved before.
Tnx for working on this.
Cammagno,
Did you install digitally initially?
Kirk
Yes (I'm in Italy).
OK. I sent you a list of instructions for the next time an update is available so you can send us the log.
Thank you.
I received and understood them.
I'll do my best to be helpful in fixing this issue
Hey Zargon, if you're on holidays, then that's cool. If not, then clearly the boss is working you too hard.
That said, I'm just wondering if there is any further updates to this problem currently? I've logged in and out of Impulse multiple times since I last sent you (I think) the email with the various bits and pieces requested of me. I'm still registering the 1.99GB update available.
Strato84,
Happy New Year, we are back.
Impulse does a check of the files necessary for update and then changes the update size. If you actually try to do the update, does it change to MB in size?
Thanks Zargon
I let it download up to 100MB then cancelled. Impulse reads the download as xx.xMB / 1.91GB
It isn't a major problem my end any time soon, in a few more weeks I should be back home and able to reinstall from disc again. It is just odd though that Impulse wants to redownload the whole lot despite loading correctly.
zargon, in my four computers with elemental installed AND verified to 1.1, three are reporting 1.42gb download size during download, I cancelled the three, the fourth was only 4.2mb (the small download machine is winxp 32bit 4gb ram nvidia geforce 7600 amd x2 5200) the THREE LARGE downloads are (win 7 64 bit ultimate i7 930 oc 4ghz 12gb ram ati 5850, win7 64bit ultimate core2quad 9550 oc 4ghz 8 gb ram ati 4850 and winxp 32bit amd x2 6000+ 4gb ram nvidia 8800gt).
harpo
Updating Elemental v1.10 to v1.11 resulted in a download size of 1,91gb and it actually was that big, not just a display error.
Then I canceled the download, deleted the registry key above and restarted Impulse, still 1,91gb displayed and actually downloading. I canceled the download again, so is there anything I can do now to provide some useful information?
Hello,
I've been having this problem with the updates too. I originally bought the game as a digital download.
I couldn't delete the first entry, but I deleted the 2nd entry and tried to update the game again but it's still trying to download 1.9GB instead of just the patch.
Sorry about the size of this image!
**Edit**
Just to confirm, I did restart Impulse and re-verified the files before trying to download it again, but it didn't make any difference.
I'm in no rush to update, so let me know if there's anything else I can try.
