Ok, so I decided to create a new Chatroom, because the old one was getting pretty....old!
Everyone may post here, as well as in the good'ol Flameroom...I mean, Chatroom
I would like to keep this Chatroom civilized. Well, as civilized as most forum threads are (doesnt mean that you all have to be polite like Oatesy, lol).
So for this reason, I may update the OP of this thread in the future, posting certain thread rules, as I see fit.
For now though, post away, and everyone is welcome!

Good for you
J/K, I know its not fair, but IMO, when there's a law that states its illegal for underage people to drink alcohol, that makes you wanna drink, just to break that stupid law.
I never liked alcohol, and I havent drunk any alcoholic beverage in years, but just the thought of it being illegal, would definitely make me wanna drink a little (at least thats how I used to think of it when I was younger). Of course that stupid law doesnt exist in Greece, so its all hypothetical.
I was trying to say that maybe Veers just decided to copy your Chatroom idea
I think that it's actually illegal to allow a child under a certain age to consume alcohol, but above that age they can drink however much they want, though whoever looks after them should probably stop them. Meanwhile, I think that you have to be 18 to get an alcoholic drink in a pub, and 21 to buy it at a supermarket.
Personally, I do drink on occasion, as in one glass of wine (though always with meals) and sometimes a pint of beer. I have to say I do like port. However, I would never do what many people in Britain tend to do once they're 18, which is get drunk, then go out and drink even more at pubs or clubs or whatever.
I did not know that.
I personally consider it to make sense that there's a minimum drinking age. It's a method to try to control who does and does not have access to alcoholic beverages, which can cause problems.
The biggest thing with drinking problems isn't so much a 'I have a beer/glass of wine/x alcoholic beverage every so often', it's with the 'I get drunk every day'. Because getting drunk is a problem. Mostly because drunk people do really stupid stuff. And drunk drivers are a hazard.
Me personally, I've had a slight taste of vodka and of wine. I found the vodka to have a slightly bitter flavor, and that it burned quite a bit, but was actually rather enjoyable IMO.
Wine, OTOH, tasted bitter and had a very unpleasant aftertaste. Not cool.
Vodka>Wine.
To tell truth, having a beer/glass of wine with a meal is probably the best way to drink alcoholic beverages. It can improve the flavor of the food, and the beverage, and it also has a nice side-effect of helping to aid digestion of the alcohol so you don't have uber-high blood-alcohol content.
Same here. In fact only recently have stores started asking for Ids inorder to buy alcohol.
Yet another reason why I say america has TOO MANY LAWS!!!
I say we should get rid of all of them, and start over with one basic law:
You do something to force your will on another person, you're out.
Amend as needed, restart every 50 years.
-Twilight Storm
Except, of course, that that is technically the purpose of government. To 'force' all people to obey a common law that is beneficial to all involved.
So I think your premise of 'America has too many laws', is probably a correct one. Your possible solution, however, is quite unworkable.
UNCERTAINTY IS DEATH!!!
SORT IT OUT!!!
I think in the US is actually illegal to drink if you're underage, with, or without the approval of your parents. Not sure about it though
Anyway, in Greece, a 12 year old kid can go to a bar or a club, and drink strong alcohol. No place that sells alcohol will refuse to give a teenager an alcoholic beverage (Or they can refuse to give them alcohol, but they wont survive very long if they do).
And of course nobody is gonna give alcohol to a small child, thats ridiculous (but still not illegal though. No law exists for that). The only law we have here about consumption of alcohol, is the usual "dont drink and drive" sort of thing (you know, I dont need to explain more about that).
And that is the best way for young girls to get violated, and then wake up in the morning not knowing a thing. Go go rapists and pedophiles - /sarcasm
Here's the thing: If a teenager wants to drink alcohol, they WILL do so, being illegal or not.
They only thing they manage with that sort of law, is saying: "Hey all of you teens, drinking alcohol is illegal at your age, so getting drunk is totally crazy!"
And because most teens at the age of 16-17 usually wanna do crazy stuff, because "its fun", getting drunk suddenly becomes all the more tempting and exciting for them.
True.
You dont like Whiskey?
J/K
But seriously now, for me all alcoholic beverages suck, except for Gordon's Space - that thing which is like a beer, but tastes more like lemonade, and I like lemonade - (dont really know how its called though. It might be considered a beer, I dunno).
Vodka sucks, just as everything else. But there are a few times, where I've actually found certain wines to be really good. Sometimes the wine's flavor is so good, that sort of overlaps the alcohol, also leaving you a sweet grappy taste
Just gotta know which wine to purchase, there are a lot of differences between one brand to another. Hmm, I think I could drink good quality red wine, if offered to me by a friend or relative. But anything else with alcohol? Nah
Lastly, there are 0 alcohol wines, that taste really good. But I know what you're gonna say: "Grape juice". No I dont mean grape juice, but actual wine with 0% alcohol, being exactly like regular wine, but excluding the strong taste of alcohol. I have to say I quite like that, although its kinda hard to find.
It doesnt matter, cause Coca-Cola >>>>>>>>>>all drinks
But yeah, thats a good point there Whiskey. Best way to consume alcohol it is
Thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
1. It is controversial, as "forcing your will" doesnt quite say much, does it? People might interpret it in different ways. Thats because language is subject to interpretation. And that is why we have MANY different and more specific laws. To cover (but not really effectively) this weakness. That prevents most people to bend these laws, so in most cases they can only break them /Lesson for 8 year old kids over
2. I already see one million ways for a half-decent lawyer to totally destroy and step on that law while at court. Do I really need to explain?
3. One person claims that what they did was not forcing their will on anyone, while another might claim that what happened was against their will. One says it was consensual, another says it wasnt. Who is right? To determine that, you need more specific parts of that law. And that is how you create more and more laws. Otherwise, whoever is smarter is right, the other one goes to jail. Fair? I dont think so.
"You do something to force your will on another person, you're out." = Immediate chaos and anarchy.
Now Twilight, can we go back to the real world, and stop reading fairy tales please? Thank you
Morph, you is wrong.
Coca-Cola DOES NOT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other drinks.
Sprite>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other drinks.
And I've actually never had whiskey. Though come 21 years old, that will change. Not a case of 'drink till I'm drunk', as a 'have a few drinks to see what it's like'.
While you're right that a teenager bent on drinking will get some a hold of some booze, I never did contest that. I simply noted that I understood the reasons behind a minimum drinking age. I did not say anything about the effectiveness behind such a law, just the reasons behind it.
Off-Topic (like anything here is on topic anyway): In space, no one can hear you scream.
Now I just need to find a case in which this actually applies... Hmm...
Quoting CmdrNilles, reply 575I know but it never got off the ground so oh well I was trying to say that maybe Veers just decided to copy your Chatroom idea [/quote]
I don't think veers copied me it just seemed like agood idea
Oh and does anybody remember the Godzilla TV show? I grew up with it and now im watching it again
That pic is awesome.
That show scared the piss out of me when I was 6. Now, though, it's OK.
I feel as thought I've been replaced by this CmdNilles character... anyone seen Twilight_Storm?
Anyway, sorry for my absence, I won't bore you with the atypical-emo-details.
Now for something interesting though;
Ancient Man (I'm talking circa 2000 BC or whenever the Pyramids of Giza were built) is/was more intelligent and capable than Modern Man is today.
Discuss!
Xer0 \^/
Water > All Beverages
Ancient man had to do alot more to survive than current. In ancient times man worked hard inorder to create and preserve some form of standard of living. More people generally had to be creative, becuase if you couldn't fend for your self no one was gonna fend for you. There were no charities other than perhaps the church, so if you wanted to make it you tried and worked hard.
After the Industrial revo things got easier, becuase suddenly everyone had a product they could now sell, labour. While you might have to work hard, your no longer required the bulk of society to think very hard or be very creative. You didn't have find a way a to grow more crops, or create something worth selling. All you had to do was come to work do X go home. Come to work do X go home. Come to work do X go home.
Come to work do X go home.
Thats your own opinion.
You're not missing out on anything
Ok fair enough.
LOL awesome pic, Snipe
I didnt say he copied you, I just said he copied your Chatroom idea.
Of course you have!
We dont need you Xer07, we got CmdrNilles. Now go away, shooo
I dont feel like discussing anything atm, I lost my beauty sleep today
But give us more of the atypical-emo-details please, not just random stuff
Thats true, but since water is NOT a beverage, it cant be compared with them.
touche
Oatesy, that pic you posted is really awesome
Can I please use it to the OP of this thread here?
I think it really fits, doesnt it?
Intelligent? Nope. Ancient Man had no idea what nuclear fission is, or general relativity, or quantum mechanics.
Note that Quantum Mechanics came into existence in the 1920s, IIRC.
Capable? Maybe. I'd probably say that Ancient Man was possibly more ingenious than Modern Man, but that's because 'he' built some pretty big buildings that are still around, and are quite structurally sound.
What I think? I think Ancient Man and Modern Man are fairly similar; they have access to different technology levels, which makes them capable of different things.
It also makes them strive for different things; Da Vinci designed a few 'flying machines', but I doubt he thought they were going to be physically possible (at least no in his lifetime). Whereas today, transcontinental travel is nothing new.
That it does, young one. That it does.
Have a rave, it ain't copyrighted by anyone.
How did it scare you?
It was awesome and much better than the current crap that is called TV that is on nowadays
I have not replaced anybody
Oh and that is true I can't believe some of the idiots in the world right now ( like my classmates)
I had a longer reply that I was typing out, but decided to stop because I was 99% certain that I sounded like an ass.
Anyways, I don't really have an opinion on the whole "Code Geass/Godzilla is better", because I simply haven't watched a whole lot of Godzilla.
Code Geass, on the other hand, I've seen the whole TV series.
The Internet is wonderful like that.
I like Godzilla but I do not think its right to say one is better. Because i may enjoy Godzilla but someone else may hate it.(sometimes for the same reasons)
