This whole game is messed up. I have the latest so called patch, and my crashes got worse. I then got help from Tech support. now my game wont load at all. I want my money back!!!!
Just give them some time.
They try to fix those things. I am furstrated also to say the truth, but is not like they are not trying.
Their major crashes are usually caused by the save/load process of the game.
In previous version it was the game usually crashing while you were saving or usually while the 3rd turn autosave came up.
Now on this version it seems the saving is fixed, but now there is a problem they seemed to missed while loading the save ^^
I mean when you load if you had a previous game in the background, it seems that it doesnt empty the memory even if you choose "yes" in the dialog "all unsaved changes will be lost" thing and causes the game to go out of memory again and crash, which will need a game restart for each time you load.
So previous version was having saving crashes. This one has loading crashes and in very very late game it seems that it gets too heavy for some reason, which was supposed not to with the threads thing. seems like too many caravans takes a tool on the system or something
They are trying and yes it is frustrating if you see the potential of the game. Some times you just need to vent frustrations. So, vent, come back at later date and check the game out. The more you want the game to work well, and have interesting features, the longer the wait seems, so go to another game for awhile and then come back later and maybe it will have improved. I have shelved it for awhile and playing other games. but in the back of my mind, I just hope this game rises to it's potential.
Every day...
I feel better that I skipped this game. At this rate I'm losing so much interest in the product that I'm even doubting I'll bother with it once the expansions are out.
Oh well, pity, I was really excited for it, and now...
At least the forum is somewhat interesting.
That is something you will need to discuss with sales/support. We cannot authorize or provide refunds via the forums. Please note though that the latest update is the 1.1 beta, which is provided for testing purposes. If you're not interested in testing, you may find it less frustrating to stick with the 1.09 release version for the time being.
The latest patch is a beta, people. Beta patches don't automatically get installed, you have to change your configuration to install them. If you don't want to be part of the testing process, then you shouldn't install beta versions.
The problem is that people want lots of new functionality and they want it as quick as possible. This is what Stardock is trying to accomplish, but it requires the help of the community to make it work.
So, yes it might be buggy, but finding those bugs now is what is going to make the next official patch that much better!
Also athought the v1.1 is in beta, i personally recommend installing it if bugs bother you, its less buggy than the stable version
Anyone else think it's silly to call this a beta? Just seems to be strange to buy a game, and then 3 months later you are playing a beta.
They aren't calling the game a beta...they are calling the patch a beta. Which makes sense.
I don't think its strange. I'm in the software industry and every time we make a new version of our software, we give it to a few of our beta customers first. These customers have elected to be beta sites so they know what they are getting into.
If you are changing the functionality that drastically, it needs a test run.
Microsoft does the same thing, they just try and sell each version. Windows NT, ME, XP, Vista, 7, etc.. You can't tell me Windows 7 still isn't just a build up of the original NT Version. They said it was suppose to be a re-write, but I still get the same error messages and blue screen that I had on NT.
Rofl not to mention that Vista is still a beta in my view
I guess if I'm using a Windows analogy, I should actually say it is more like a service pack. Windows service packs have betas. Microsoft calls them hotfixes. And they actually recommend not installing them as they are not thoroughly tested.
So, if you prefer, they can call it a "Stardock hotfix"
I bought the game with real money. I shouldnt be part of any testing of this game at all.
Do you get those error messages every 5 minutes or so. This broken game crashes and freezes that much.
Well everyone gets those, we make some patience till devs fix those.
Lately they have made some good steps into making the game stable.
Go out with gf, find a good restaurant, then walk together to the shore till they fix it is a good idea ^^
Yeah, but if you compare the current product to what we were told we were buying last fall... This is Beta for the whole game. Just a big, giant public Beta. Pre-Release was a big giant public Alpha.
Despite being gnaw-my-fingers-off frustrated with the current state of the game, I'm playing it as often as I can bear to and constructively complaining so it can be an awesome game next summer.
And if it isn't, I'll be learning programming and will make it that way (provided that enough of the right things get "unboxed" for modders)
Comments like this would make other companies to say "Fuck those customers" and skip "public" beta patches (for users who ACTIVELY and on their OWN free will are using an option to download those beta patches and, in theory, be part of the Beta process and not just "play the game").
They are working on 1.09n. They will be working on 1.09o. They will be working in any patch that they have to make to fix/improve the game. And that we can download those beta patches and help them doesn't really matter in the sense that they are to be working on them anyways until they reach 1.1, which will be a public non beta patch (that hopefully doesn't crash...). Stardock offers us the possibility to help them by opening the beta process to registered users and so they can offer improved feedback about the changes while they are still in beta.
And considering how disapointed some people are about the release of the game and such, one would think that they would be happy about changes being made and being able to take part in the process (that they can agree with the changes is another story for another day).
But nooooo. Lets make silly complains because we are so cool. And lets have the guts to call it "feedback" too.
ah man bummer. WoW didn't work when they released it. They even got rid of the people in the office that didn't want to release it because it didn't work @ the time. From what I've read here, I believe the programmers still care about Elemental and will be working hard on the product. I don't think they are blowing you off like some companies might when you find a bug and tell you to shut up and buy the next addon for a fix (I've seen this).
Well, I for one am still calling the game a beta! I`m not here to troll, but you are kidding yourself if you would call the game a finished product. There are far too many bugs, glitches, wonky mechanics and things not working as intended for me to consider Elemental anything but a work in progress. I do think the game is improving. But its release was so premature, and (as frogboy admits) the developments direction wasn`t what it should have been, that it will be quite some time before the game feels like a gold release.
Well that's just the way it is - what's in the past is unchangeable, but you can learn from it to prepare for the future.
Best regards,Steven.
That's funny. I played WoW when they released it, and aside from overwhelmed servers in the evening it worked pretty well.
Comparing it to the Elemental launch is a joke.
i haven't stopped calling EWoM beta since beta. i might stop calling it beta in 6-9 months... then i'll probably call it candidate for release.
I think the new Engine is coming along at a pretty good pace.
