As already mentioned in this thread: https://forums.stardock.com/399407 there is an offical voting going on for a new Sins expansion:

I just opened this thread here to reach a bigger audiance. If your are interested in a new Sins expansion please vote! Thanks.
Interesting. If they don't do another Sins expansion, does that mean a new game/IP/Sins 2 development begins?
As a casual gamer, I really enjoyed Sins, but I'm not sure that my enjoyment would be increased by another expansion, unless it did some really unique and cool stuff.
So there is an overwhelming yes. I voted yes.
But an expansion that does what? Need to know that.
An expansion that removed the 2 Gig limit and adopted many of the features of the better mods would seem to be a good idea. The engine change would be the most difficult. But being done, the popularity would be guaranteed. Much to be preferred to cooking up what nobody has even thought of and hoping that players might like it.
Heh, popularity would definitely be guaranteed for a 64 bit redesign of the engine (requirement for getting rid of the 2gb memory limit), however that would skyrocket the cost of development as well and couldn't really be expansion-priced.. especially since the poll doesn't make clear if they're thinking micro-expansion like the previous ones, or a full blown one.
That said, there've been plenty of ideas posted around the forums for cool stuff to add, with some making recurring appearances, so there's plenty of fan suggested material to draw from.
I'm thinking Stardock (publisher) is leaning on Ironclad( dev) to play it safe(sins) instead of a new property they might have been working on, to counter the Elemental situation their in. (money)
Good thought on opening up a more public thread. I probably should have done that in the first place with mine.
I'm kind of stoked about the possibility of a new expansion as the possibilities for this engine is still very viable. In regards to the Windows 32 bit 2GB per process limit imposed on all games I can only hope that they will make improvements to streamline their development process (TSOP mod showed what is possible with their existing game assets and addressing this limit). Personally I would be more psyched for a full expansion and not a third micro expansion but if they think they have the right recipe for either I'll give them a shot.
Thought of this too. Another possibility is Ironclad can leverage their existing engine with a new expansion to help finance whatever it is they are working on.
Honestly I want a new game more then another expansion. Sins is great, but Ironclad can do a lot if they're freed from the existing constraints... including making a 64 bit version. (Seriously that's not something you do in an expansion unless it's a $40 expansion.)
Since that site is unlikely to be seen by anyone but Sins players I wonder why they included a "No" poll option in the first place. =P
Yeah, but they're also working on their next game, which is Not-Sins. They're definitely not big enough to do two games at once.
I'd rather see SoSE 2 (with a campaign!).
Although I'd also be interested in an expansion if it had a campaign with a story line. SoSE has potentially fascinating lore.
Well, I said "new game", not necessarily "sequel". I'd like a sequel too, but Ironclad doing something else doesn't worry me. They do good work.
But another Sins expansion? Honestly with the current engine limitations in CPU power on a single thread and memory limits, I'm not sure what you could add to the game that would be worth the effort. Seems like it's best to leave it as the gem that it is and let the new game break those limitations down.
Another expansion you say... HECK YES! Take my money!
Well, if it include that we can have more than 2 opponent I'm in .
You can have up to 9 already. Sounds like you're only looking at the small maps, click the change maps button below the list to cycle through small/medium/large maps.
I want an expansion that fixs all the lag, allows multithreaded support and more ram support i am all for a new expansion if they fix the key aspects of the game that show its age. While an awesome game some of these aspects show its age. But i would love to see some more expansions. IF Ironclad can update its engine while making new expansions im all for this game staying alive indefinatly i have seen many big companies do this eve online for instance while its not the same type of game they have upgraded thier engine without making an eve 2 so if Ironclad can pull off changes in an expansion im all for it otherwise if they cannot they should move on to Sins 2 imho taking all they have learned from sins and add it into the first game meaning all the expansions added to sins 2 and more.
I rather see a sins expansion because Sins 2 probably won't be the sins of a solar empire we know. It'll become some starcraft 2 style game. And if sins 2 played almost the same as sins 1, then whats the point
