You know how it goes.
Game company releases game. They put out a series of bug fix patches for a bit and then they move on until it’s time to get you to buy an expansion pack or two until it’s time to do a sequel. If the initial game gets panned or negative reviews, it’s typically abandoned.
And people wonder why gamers have gotten so cynical.
As people in our community know, that’s not how we do things here.
Those of you who hang out here have seen us discussing the upcoming version 1.1 of Elemental: War of Magic. This is a partial screenshot (right side of my screen) of some of the UI updates we’re doing.
For those of you who want to try v1.1 in beta, we plan to put out the first beta in about a week.
Until the end of THIS MONTH (October 31), anyone who purchase Elemental: War of Magic, will get the first two expansions for the game for free (as well as our normal long-term support for the game itself).
The purpose of this entry is to provide space for people who have questions on what we’re doing now versus in future updates.
This part reminded me so much of Creative Assembly and Empire Total War, which I bought, that I laughed... then cried.
Anyway, looks good, keep it up! I assume that since the beta is within a week that this won't be out for a while. Maybe the end of November? Sooner? Later?
I figure an early gold pack is a good enough incentive to make a leap of faith. I bit, and soon you (and others) will have the privilege of knowing if this game can run on my hamster powered netbook. It just might! Here'd be a great opportunity to fulfill that epic promise you made! Elemental on a netbook!
edit: Wait a minute, I feel like I remember something being said about the AI being entirely XML. And fully visible. Is that indeed the case?
If so, I just got a whole lot more interested in what I'm downloading. Talk about a learning opportunity! Oh yah, and maybe a game but whatever, this is programming!
This is like Christmas!
... it better not be a lump of coal.
Any chance of a slightly bigger screen shot I tried blowing it up in gimp but the resolution isn't there to see it very clearly.
Anyway sounds good really looking forward to 1.1
Have any changes been made to the XML with regards to quests, or is it largely the same?
thanks alot takes my worries away then... ive been patching it as they come out. i didnt buy it digitally got it at games stop the ltd edition... heh the peyter dragon is currently residing in my sons fish tank lol.
Thanks for the pic and the update.
Great Stuff. Can't wait to try the changes.
i would have bought them regardless how are you meant to make money now for more stuff?
Is 1.1 considered an expansion?
Tell you the truth...despite the rough launch, i was very happy to see how you stood behind your product and didn't cut and run. Your commitment and quick (and continued) response was enough for me. I almost feel guilty for getting the first two free but I'LL TAKE IT
Thanks
Two questions...
-Is 1.1 an expansion? Or the expansion will be 2.0 or something completely different?
-If I reset my computer after the 31th Octuber, would I still be able to redownload the expansions once I reinstall the game, or I would mess up?
ITS NOT THE SAME AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
!
I understand Mr. Frogboy and I like that they are doing something but i like to see my total population too. It just isn't the same looking at a 3 or a 4. It kills immersion for me. I loved building massive cities and seeing thousands of people for my population. Seeing a 3 and having to pretend that means 3000 or something just isn't the same Can't we have both?
Haven't played much since release, but this is looking promising! Keep it up!
I just hope I'm still not showing as a pirate. My fiancee (with the help of my flatmate) bought me this a month ago for our first anniversary. I don't knpw if it's registered to my account or not. I tried the account merge thing, but I don't know if Daniele actually 'got it' when I explained the whole account merger thing. He's italian (and so is she). We're getting married in June 2012. hurrah.
Gav
1.1 is a free patch and not an expansion.
Will the mouse zooming bug be fixed in 1.1? Inability to smoothly zoom seriously impairs my ability to enjoy playing the game.
Hello, been sitting on the fence watching this games progress and waiting for a demo. Is the current patch also
involving work for a possible demo ? Just curious as to the timeline on it. Obviously well after the beta process.

Seriously! I've not exactly been a long-time customer of Stardock or anything, but having bought three games through you guys, two of which you made, and Dragon Age: Origins, I can safely say I've never had a better consumer-experience with a game Developer/Publisher than I have with Stardock. When DA:O came out, while the launch version wasn't buggy, the download itself was in a few ways, and there were people online, at launch, who fixed the problems damn near immediately. (Read: Within minutes.) Sins was the easily the best impulse-buy I've ever made, and Elemental, despite the problems experienced at launch, is shaping up to be a good game, and currently, it's both playable and fun.
My only real question is, what are you guys defining as Expansions? In my understanding, or at least the way I've read it on these forums over the past few weeks, you're considering 1.1 an Expansion, basically in the sense that it takes to somewhat broken state of the game and attempts to fix many of the problems with features and implementation, as well as improving upon them, but this was never made clear to me...
Thanks Frogboy for reminding me why I love stardock.A few things I was curious about..Champions: Can you choose "abilities" when they get upgraded? I.E Does a high level merchant generate more gold then a low level merchant? I would love to see something of this implemented, or maybe their "occupations' are modified by a stat. Merchants generate more gold with a higher charisma, lore masters generate with more wisdom/intelligence... I don't know, that or that they get new ability options/upgrades *Shrugs*.Melee Champions: I'm way to scared to use my champion in melee against a squad, I always picture valiant hero being a noteworthy force however. Do you have any news on making melee champions become less of a hit and miss?Magic UI/Use: Magic is one of my favourite parts in this game, however I think the UI of the spellbook could use a bit of a clean up in general... News on this?Research Path-Please, PLEASE tell us you are putting more detail into the research path, sometimes I want to up notable locations but I have no idea what will boost this (And no I shouldn't have to research the forums to find out! Optimal solution would be the nice piece of lore, then what it does in blatant terms.Faction Creator: As I had voiced I feel this has been overlooked and a bit buggy... Racial units (Such as sions) cannot be constructed unless you pick fallen as a race, why offer the research then? A bit of a tune up here (With more custom faction traits!) would be lovely. Favourite part of galciv 2 was my custom race!Goodluck! Looking forward to some news.
I hate sounding like a broken record, but it's my pet issue so I'll ask here What are the plans for Multiplayer in 1.1 and 1.1+ (expansion1, expansion2, or whatever)? I'm really hoping to see a "Epic, Full SP features including tactical battles" option for Coop multiplayer. Will this ever be coming?
Also, when are custom servers (such as LAN hosting) coming?
Thanks!
The combat system overhaul is due in another update, am I correct? What about special abilities for heroes/units? And "perks/abilities" at level-up?
Sorta put Elemental on the shelf, I really like alot of the concepts, but game lacked an amount of polish. Really liking what is it upcoming in 1.1 tho, changes to pop should make for fewer larger cities, also like the magic changes coming. Once it's live I will give the game another round
Alright! Frogboy has convinced me... I am going to Best Buy tomorrow to purchase this game.
I have been lurking on this forum for a couple weeks now.. I am one of those "cynical gamers" that is desperately looking for a game worth spending my money on. I have been extremly impressed with the level of commitment displayed from the developers of this game.
My trust is in you Stardock - Don't let me down!!
That looks good so far!
Got the game about 2 weeks ago, couldn´t play it alot yet (but like the special edition )! But I like it and your support too!
