Welcome to the 2nd Demigod Community Tournament Scheduling Thread
Here's a link back to the rules and registration thread: http://forums.impulsedriven.com/396231
Please use this thread to schedule your matches. Remember, all teams are responsible for hosting and scheduling their own matches!
There will be a need to disqualify teams that aren't making the required effort to get their games in without penalizing another team that's doing whatever they can to get a match scheduled. It's probably best if teams that are trying to organize matches go on record in the forums. For instance, if I wanted to get a game going against AtMa and Ba, I'd post something like the following in this thread:
Atma + Ba: trouser and pacov are generally available M-F from 5pm EST - 1AM EST. Please let us know if some time in that slot would work for you or recommend a time slot that works. I'll PM you in a few days if I haven't heard from you or we can discuss this on lagwars vent.
Something like that. If it comes down to disqualifying teams because they didn't get their match in, the more info and tracking you have indicating that you did your best to get the match scheduled the better.
And remember, you can use this thread, use pm's on the forums, use the lagwars vent, whatever method you want to get your games going.
So, all of that said, I'd like to kick things off and start checking in on folks availability for Saturday (10/16). Ideally, I'd like to get as many people on at the same time on 10/16 and just get some games going to kick the tournament off.
Please use the following spreadsheet to update your availability: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AvMuQE400v-JdHBSQUxRUXZZUFlrUXBrc295bFd1RFE&hl=en&authkey=CKC6regB#gid=0
last thing zen said about tuesday... so it stand to reason HE might be free around 8pm... but I'm guessing kira wouldn't be available... so that would leave zen+mith+nnnnils i think. I'm not exactly holding my breath here with all the scheduling nonsense, but I'll be around.
Well soccer said that he could play tonight I thought but not tomorrow. Anyway I don't see much of a point in picking anyone up because if we don't have soccer there no chance we will be beating mcorchenz. It is pretty retarded to make this final four a must play this week seeing as EVERY FUCKING SCHOOL HAS FINALS WEEK INCLUDING MINE AND SOCCERS. Now some of us don't study as much as others (me) but handing out DQ's because we care about school is pretty gay. If soccer can't play then I am not going to bother getting slaughtered by mcshane orchin and renz with some pug on our team. So in other words I wont play unless soccer can.
What a shitty way to end something that could of been good. It all comes down to circumstance rather then whos team is better then whos. Congratz on the glorious win McOrchenz.... you guys earned it!
Everyone's having the same issues, I think we should postpone until after the holiday season. Next tournament no freaking round robin, all in one weekend, you pick your teams based on who is going to be available.
Thank you, glad to see some appreciation around here finally.
we'll see what happens thru Wednesday...
I have the same issues with finals and presentations the next day, but I choose to play and found an alternate to play for mith that day, because he is taking a bio exam during that time period.
Just as a sidenote: The other fact is that in the decision making panel is mcshane, pacov and hedgie with jon as an alternate. If two votes go against mcshane that the tournament is postponed a few more days, shane's team might be in trouble as a sudden to be disqualified if they don't find an alternate
I really don't want to see any game played with an alternate or a dq because that would just be a really fucking stupid way to end this tourney.
Once you have to take 2 6000 Level physics final exams each 3 hr long back to back, I would say you have the right to compare. Not even being having a technical major, I don't think you do.
If by 6000 you mean 600...
Anyway, I'm still reading this. I would really be pretty pissed if there are mass DQ's here for the finale.
That's just a stupid way to do things.
I think we've learned from this tournament that round robin is not the way to do things. What I suggest we do for the next tourney is we have a few weeks for signups (either 3's or 2's) for a SPECIFIC weekend, with brackets at SPECIFIC times. You can do a bracket every 4 hours, and you can show up to half an hour late before the DQ (amnesty granted if you happen to play a series of 2 hour games back-to-back, but all you have to do for that is just post on the forumas and we can move everything around).
So, for example. Saturday the 18th, first game is at 10 AM EST, 2nd game is 2 PM EST, 3rd game is 6 PM EST. 4th game is 10 AM on the 19th, 5th is 2 PM, 6th is 6 PM.
If we did a double-elimination system, then that would have room for 16 teams. If we went above that, you can just cram another game on the first day and start Sunday later on.
This scheduling nonsense and trusting people to show up, or actually make an attempt to play games is obviously not working.
What I reccomend what we do, rather than just postpone after the break or whatever, is, if the final games don't work out (and I don't want Alts and DQs...), we just cancel the final bracket. McShane's team would obviously still win the award for the Round Robin. Also, do the participation raffle (woo~).
Then, just transfer the money to the next tournament. Have it happen early January. Let it be one weekend, and start registrations this weekend. Let it be split two ways 75%-25%, and call it a day.
Minimum drama, people can shift around the Demigod rules (I'd suggest either "only pick a demigod once a series" or keeping the current rules but allow Ereb-Oak-TB), and people can re-evaluate their availability.
I agree.
Lol why am I suddenly some kind of tyrant. You barely deserve to be in the finals if I remember correctly. Disqualifying you and moving on is no great loss

But since Pacov's team won't play as well now then this whole tournament is a failure and sure we can postpone it until February and hope that Orcun still cares to play when he gets back from his vacation.
Well, here is my stance:1 aspect of this tournament has been more frustrating and disappointing than any other: scheduling. I was somewhat amazed at how difficult it was to get anything scheduled with any team as it seemed like there was a general refusal to simply pick a specific time and show up then. Everyone seemed to decide that just show up and hope someone is on was the way to handle things. This led to many days wasted - just waiting around in the hopes of getting games in. And when we finally had an opportunity to get a game in, sometimes teams would refuse to play, etc. Anyway, its been a somewhat lousy experience, generally brought about players refusing to set times and show up. Players refusal to schedule or organize their best to make things work led to a fairly unsatisfactory experience. An experience we won't be repeating in this format again - at least, not without a set schedule. Some background as to why we are where we are at right now: there was about a 1 month lull where no matches occured. And why did no matches occur? People wouldn't schedule or their teammates proved to be extremely unreliable. The logical conclusion to me? End the round robin portion of our tourney and proceed. Who was playing their games anyway at this point? No one. And why not simplify things more by disqualifying any team that more than likely would not play/schedule their games in the finals instead of going through the motions, hoping someone would show up, only to slow down the tournament more. What's the rush? Well, I do want to make it clear that the world doesn't revolve around or-chin. This whole trying to wrap things up this week was in part, because he indicated he'd be unavailable for some time after Friday or Saturday of this week. This was something he gave a heads up for 3-4 weeks ago and was a pretty reasonable request. Now, had ANY team actually bothered to get games in during that time, things would have progressed to the final 4 stage a little sooner. But that said, it would likely have been a bit more prudent to end the round robin part of our tourney a few weeks earlier when it was somewhat clear that games weren't being played. In addition, it is finals week for a good portion of the people in the final 4 - eg, the timing for a push to end this tournament isn't so good.As it stands, if mcshane/jona do not play their game by midnight tonight, whichever team was unavailable tonight would be disqualified. The same goes for pacov/zen. And the way it looks, at least 2 teams would likely be disqualified tonight... if not all by thursday as the final game was to take place then. I think we can all agree that it would be an exceptional waste to have to dq all but 1 team and is about as anti-climactic as you can get. So, here's what's going to happen. As much as I would prefer to end the endless tourney, we will not be disqualifying any team this week. There are several ways to proceed, but unfortunately, none of the options that end the tournament soon as all that fair (but I'll list them anyway). We could end the tourney on thurs as planned, but like I mentioned, that results in dqs. We could extend the tournament another 2 weeks, but that forces or-chin's team to pick up an alternate (eg what my team would have to do this week), which would reduce their odds of winning. We could delay until the magic day of or-chins return and then schedule the final games then (eg, this tourney will be on like another 2 month break), or last, we could do a hybrid of that last option, where my team will play zen god some time in the near future and if possible, jona's team would play mcshane's team tonight (not holding my breath). Then, we just have the final game when or-chin comes back.Anyway, sorry for the added stress here, fellas. Some of us are not quite as keyed into finals as those of you that actually have them for some reason. So, bottom line, there really isn't a fair way to end the tournament this week and I think we are in agreement there.Let's discuss the options I listed.
edit - AND hedgies suggestion.
I am all for giving McOrchenz the round robin money and sending whatever money is left as roll over into a new tourney that happens in a very Scheduled manner.
Either that or we try to play Zen_gods team over the holidays, Renz and Shane play Jona's team with a random and the final is postponed until orcun magically reappears.
Why do we have to wait for Orcun to come back?
We don't.
Orcun did post that he was going to leave, so he can certainly get some lee-way about that this week and regarding this absurdly long 3 month tournament. But... the world doesn't revolve around him, you, me, or pacov. Ultimately, if we do what I suggested, we'll just pick some weekend to do things and that'll be that. Whoever decides is going to be the one who runs the tourney will pick the weekend and that will be that.
If you aren't available... sorry?
OK - need a panel vote on this. I vote we end THIS tournament and completely scrap the final 4 portion of our tournament (basically I'm echoing some of hedgies suggestions). Their team will receive the round robin payout and we will still have the participation raffle. The rest of the tourney funds will be held until we schedule another tourney in the near future. Anyone on the panel second this?
Why do we have to wait for Orcun to come back? Would you expect the NFL to hold the playoffs without the Patriots? If we want a fitting end to this tournament then obviously we have to wait. But with what's happening now I don't want the round robin money. I don't think Orcun or Renz care about $15 or whatever it is either. Not worth creating a paypal account for. Since cow's scared to play if soccer isn't there than we call this a round robin tournament which we won but there's no prize. Go ahead and make plans for the next tournament whether Orcun is back or not.
Scared? I just don't want you to think you accomplished something by beating me and pacov with a random pug.
Right, so scared it is. However you want to frame the situation, scared is what it comes down to. It doesn't matter though now does it.
Are you sure you are speaking for your team when you say you do not want the round robin prize money? If so, let me know and we'll simply keep that money in the pot, but we'll still have the raffle. let me know. N stop bickering cow/mcshane.
No I'm not sure, but actually send my share to Renz. I know for Orcun and myself it was more about winning after we bombed in the last tournament but I'm not going to speak for him.
OK - please just check with or-chin and let me know here. I understand that you want your portion of the round-robin prize to goto renz.
As far as I am concerned we lost just as many games in the round robin as you guys did, as well as pacov's team did. If we want to do this right the outcome of pacov's team and mine decide who actually wins the round robin. And in case of a tie, the rulebook remains silent.
