Anybody play this game? On the surface it plays like a Diablo clone, but it actually has a really nice persistent event system. So, for example, let's say you got a side quest to rescue a fair damsel, lost on level 4 of the dungeon. If the quest giver says that she will be killed if someone doesn't rescue her, you'd better believe him because it can really happen. In fact, monsters can actually form armies, invade the village and start wreaking havoc on the citizens if you're not doing your job as their hero.
So, the game has this really cool way of making you feel important because quest's actually have a real impact on the world around you. Another cool feature is the fact that quests don't have to be "activated" for them to exist. You may find yourself passing a quest that you had no idea even existed because the world is persistent in how it deals with events.
Besides this unique feature, the game is pretty well polished. It has quite a few start-up options for world generation, has a really deep character skill system, and also comes with a licence to play online or over LAN on all the PC's in your household (it's sad that this is considered a feature nowadays).
I definitely recommend buying this game, as I've had a lot of fun with it, more so even than Torchlight which came out around the same time. You can get it for sale at the developer's website or on other digital distribution sites such as Impulse.
Sounds interesting. One question: Are the games skills limited by cooldowns? I hate it when they are used massively in action-rpgs as standard-attack is boring and they usually take out much of the pace out of a game (main problem i had with Titan Quest; just unlocked a new skill which sounded really nice only to discover that I could use it only every 10 seconds).
I've been playing this for the past few weeks and really enjoying it. The best part is that you can make hybrid classes by choosing from various subclass. The dynamic event system is great and really puts some pressure on you to complete 'just one more quest.'
Yeah it's great, and the expansion is gonna be awesome
Some of the skills do have cool downs, but most of them do not (especially the main attack skills).
That sounds cool.
I find it funny when a game says something is going to happen, but you're able to postpone it by ignoring it or avoiding the trigger point.
Ugh, did Solace make another forum account?
I only half mean that, as Gaelic has actual posts on these forums
No, I don't have another account anywhere on these forums. In the long run doing fake postings just gets people pissed off at you. The only reason I know about this specific thread is because of google alerts.
I was referring to Gaelic. Although.... perhaps you are all three! Mixing up your accounts, are we? Repent now and the Forum Inquisition will go soft on you!
I'll recommend it highly at half off. Even full-price it's a decent deal.
I downloaded the demo and it seems like a lot of fun. Mostly mindless clickfest killing things but there is certainly a time and a place for that type of game. I'll be picking it up this weekend for sure.
EDIT: Humm, just saw the one sentence I missed my first time through the thread, you know, the one that answered my question before I asked it.
boo - you fellas and the half price sale just cost me some money. I hope to tempt you sometime in the near future into spending money as well
I got it and already love it. More games need dynamic worlds like this, where things are always happening; however I would like a non-randomized world mode that has more story (or is there more later? I am still in the first town, but I cannot see there being more to it with a random world).
*Casts "resurrect thread"*
I downloaded the demo after yesterday's glowing review at http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/08/dins-curse-review/ and damn this game seems fun! Only played the demo a bit so far (one character to lvl 6) but I'm already seriously thinking of buying this. First I thought it's "just" hack n' slash, but then I realized that this game actually reminds me of the good old Roguelike-games Especially the amount of customization you can do in classes and game options is great (you want to play a Druid Paladin? Ok! Or how about Gladiator Necromancer? Sure!) Anyway, I'd recommend all friends of Roguelikes to give it a try at least Though the graphics might look a bit too fancy if you're used to ASCII
This was my most fun game of 2010. The expansion helps some.
There's a few issues with the game balance at high levels, but it's still fun.
Demon War needs to be on Impulse already. (I bought it direct to get into beta)
omg...The people that make this game are my neighbors.
Great game.
Now that my youngest hit one month old I might have enough time to grab the expansion and start playing again.
The dev is also very active on his forum and listens to feedback.
Sammual
It isn't very immersive- it's a very well-done lootdrop game with a twist. Makes it a perfect time-waster.
