I do like this series, although I find it's pretty much a one shot deal, even if you play a different class the 2nd time through the first two games. I am glad to see that they are adding an editor with Crossworlds, as well as an update for armored princess. It is a fun game, looking forward to digging into it again.
Since 1.08 EWOM crashes on me around turn 200ish, I guess I will have to play this until the next elemental patch!
I need a new comp before I play Kings Bounty Crossworlds, but I have already bought it. The previous two games are class.
I'm toying with the idea of picking it up. I'm not sure that I feel like replaying the whole armored princess campaign in order to experience the new content there though, and it's unclear if the other 2 little mini campaigns (more like challenge modes) are worth the purchase price.
Will wait a bit on it. Could be pretty awesome if someone gives the editor a whirl and creates huge new campaigns or something.
I've played the demo of armored princess. Couldn't get into it all for one big reason: there are practically no tactic sound effects to speak of at all.
Hmm what do you mean? Like slicing and stuff or? Armored princess had all the usual stuff as I remember, or am losing my mind
The tactical battles from the demo are almost entirely silent except for the music. From the reviews I've read this is true for the full version as well. There is no audible feedback when casting spells or attacking or anything. Complete game breaker for me.
If you are interested in getting this you may want to hold off for a while. I've only played for about 3 hours, but:
I picked this up last night and attempting to play it has been an exercise in frustration. I've had multiple CTDs (at least 5)and it shut down my computer when launched once. It may be compatibility issues, but judging by the quests it is sloppy programming.
I've only run into 3 of the new quests, but 2 are buggy. There is a new quest at the mage tower right near the start where the dialog options don't correspond to what is going on. There is a new military academy feature and the first quest from there is unclear and the progress listed in the quest log keeps fluctuating.
The new units and spells look interesting, but I haven't had much chance to use them. I've rather liked the series so far, but this one is a disappointment and desperately needs fixing.
Not having any technical difficulties, about 3 hours into the campaign again. I wish you did not have to replay Armored Princess again to get to the new content. But it's been a year or so since I finished so I'm going to give it a whirl. Not sure I like the arena battles yet. I only played around with them a short time, seems like it is a puzzle of some sorts. Have to field the correct troops and use the correct strategy for each boss. Have not heard anything about the editor, but hopefully some good things will come from this eventually. I beat the first boss on the 2nd try, but mostly because I forgot how to play!
At least this time through I am going to try a different class. Last time I used the paladin, was pretty fun. I think he was level 56 or something when I finished the game. If I read correctly they added new skills etc... so hopefully it will be different enough to be entertaining again.
So I did finally decide to pick it up and I haven't tried the expansion to the original campaign yet (the one that requires you to start from scratch) but I did quickly play through the other 2 campaigns. They were ok but overall I wasn't that impressed. Both campaigns are just a small number of fights, one focuses on boss monsters and one focuses on regular enemy heroes with wierd terrain modifiers. Nothing all that different then we've seen in the previous game and they were over fairly quickly.
Much like armored princess, the balance was completely uneven. Playing on hard the first couple fights in both campaigns were reasonable difficult (both campaigns had one very early fight that I had to restart a few times a rethinkg my troop selection to beat). However the later fights were pushovers and trivially easy.
A patch for crossworlds has come out and all of the major difficulties I was experiencing went away. I started the extended AP campaign with a paladin and have been having a good time. I haven't made it very far, but really like the new features. There are a lot of nice minor touches, like quests for the original campaign getting expanded on and the lady who gives your pet dragon is also a merchant now.
I am not really that compelled to play this expansion... I think its a bit overpriced since there is little new content... I will pick it up if its ever in the $5 range.
2 new mods in the game are too short (1-2 hour each). The real things comes with upgraded main game champaign. That's really good. A lot of new things starting from the first island.
I was disapointed with the 2 new mini campaigns but I've been playing through the expanded main campaign again with a new class and this time on impossible difficulty and it's been a ton of fun. With that being said, it doesn't feel all that different then the first time around and I think I"m just having fun because the base Armored Princess game is so fun and because of the added challenge of playing on impossible, rather then because of the expansion.
The expansion does have some new quests, but nothing that really adds that much (or at least not that I've found yet). It also has some new spells, many of which just copy demon abilities from KB: Legends (and some of these spells are pretty lame), but it looks like there may be a few more interesting ones. A few new creatures and items too, but it's not like the old game had a shortage of them. The most dramatic thing it has added though are some completely new mechanics for orcs, kind of like the mechanic for the barbarians/orcs in the expansion for HoMM 5.
