The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
Well, looking at the votes, it is obvious what is going to happen. It is going to be teams, and then you will lose the remaining players.
Draft is the only way to ensure everyone plays and teams are mostly balanced. It's OK to be a dictator as long as you are benevolent.
I have problems with both nom's and orcun's lists
Well, active participation in this thread by the "remaining players" is pretty much nonexistant, so...
I'd definitely prefer the tourney to start, let's say, next week with just 5-6 teams, than having to wait weeks to get 10 teams to fuggin agree with what are the most perfectly balanced teams. By that time most of us could have moved on into "the next SC II", if you know what i mean.
Let's try to keep this as sand-in-my-vaglna free as possible. That said, i don't think my team is particularly stacked, and i just proposed it to get the damn ball rolling, but i'm open to objections.
P.S: Jong, i think it was agreed QoT would fit better the T2 tier, so it would be like this:
1- Rook, UB, Oak, Erebus
2- Oculus, Sedna, Torch Bearer, Queen of Thorns
3- Demon Assassin, Regulus
Sum must be at least 5, so Rook, UB, QoT is not legal, but Rook, Sedna, QoT IS legal.
OH, and i read your PM
Edit: well, Cow beat me and explained it really well
If we want to test "All around" skill, knowledge of demigod and teamplay we can set DG selection rules up like this IF we are doing Round Robin....
You can pick any damn combo or DG you want for a game... butYour team cannot pick a used DG again until EVERY DG has been played once.
Oak, Rook, UB? Sure... but, you won't be playing any of these guys for 3 more games.
Have a possibly slightly stronger team? You can hedge your bets vs another strong team by maybe playing weaker demigods vs a weaker team.
I am certain we can be assured that the winning team is eligible for ascension to godhood this way.
edit: One additional rule: Once the teams are decided, in secret you must decide which DGs to play vs each team in case of a disqualification. We can reveal just as the tournament starts.
spaking not only in my, but also in volens name you get 2x no votes, because we want to play together, but in case we dont find a third, sb of u tier 1's should play with us
and when it comes to dg selection i would think about not enabling to have more than one tier 1 dg in ur team ... so choose between rook/ub/le/oak + whatever 2 dg's
I would be all for handicapping games where tier 1's are up against 3's and 2, etc. Maybe the challenger would get free reign of dg selection.
Doubt it will happen that quick, but if we jibber jabber fast, we can probably start in 2 weeks.
I'll rather play with people that i played numerous games and that i know better as well so i'll vote no. As mentioned people haven't played a long time, things might have changed. Although if this results lot of people leaving the tourney, i can go along with draft as well. Also i think Pacov's idea of balancing the experience difference of players with giving the free choice of dg's for less experienced teams might work.
Lord's suggestion is pretty cool, and I'd roll with it except for the fact I think it's too complicated (:
It also makes the rotation not really a rotation as you try to alternate between stomping weaker teams (so you can use the weaker DG teams) and then playing against stronger teams using UB/Rook/Oak
I guess my own buddy is shafting me, so my vote doesn't really exist Though I guess I could play with pacov but that's crazy talk.
A tourney without hedgie won't be complete, make that internet work!
Nom or me is shafting you? If you ask me, its Verizon or whomever has a 5G cap on your service thats screwing you over. I want to play with you if we can, but its that shady Nomilaric that wants to drop you for Jon. Never turn your back on a Greek if you ask me.
I think Orion's idea is really interesting and could be fun... except I don't really want to have to wait forever to play a team because they need to reset their Demigod selection by playing another team... or something.
Might be a fun way to win a best out of three match. Can't use any DGs from the other games you played during the best of 3 set... DA/Reg/QoT vs TB/DA/Reg for the rubber match.
you guys are all communists! This game is slow paced. get with some guys together and practice nice combos and you will stomp good players that don't practice at all... I mean that's basically the idea of a tournament!? you cannot make it exactly equal for everyone just because they haven't played and tried to improve themselves as much as so called tier1 players... come on!
For instance rawr and kalel did not beat orcun and mcshane because they are invincible warriors but with a smart combo and tactic.
On top of that it would be too difficult and almost impossible to find players you never play with to play just one single tournament game.
I'm for a nice weighted demigod combination like last tournament.
Indeed - and because we'll be doing some sort of round robin anyway, you still get to play on even if you choke - so all the more fun.
And I just added up the responses - even without hearing from a few of the other folks, the pick your own teams vote has won. So, the tourney will be create your own 3 man team.
Edit - updated the op with some of the things we've agreed on so far.
I take back what I said about tier 1 players not being as good when playing crappy demigods.
McShane just handed me my ass while playing DA... so, so much for me and my theories. Now I need to pay him $5 not to post the replay...
money well spent. heh. I've always felt that if a tier 1 isn't good with all dgs, he isn't a tier 1 - but some disagree on my definition
i
i agree
Lol nah don't put too much weight into that game. Your rook just genuinely disliked being alive whereas mine was a monster on the HP flag. It was funny that this whammy_bl character was going to report me for "my software being off" or however he said that I was cheating though.
i vote YES, if there won't be any rules in creating teams and choosing demigods we will have situation where in the other hand we have superior team like Orcun, McShane, Mith, Zen ( any one of them is angel od death) and on the other hand are average players like volen20, bloodowl, me
in case of meeting those teams the score is known in advanced, they overwhelme us in 10-15 minutes ; )
i understand that the TOp players want to play amongs them casue it's guarantee high level of match, emotion, adrenaline etc, but i ask you to understand my point of view ; )
second metter is what time will we make the match? i see most of players are from USA or Canada , but i am from Eastern Europe so there is about 7-8 hours (at least 7-8 hours) difference between us,
best regards
; )
If we're going to play like 3 matches in a row (what can take even 3 hours ... ) then we should not start later than 5pm (US time) ... Im from eastern europe too ... and i think i wont be able to play longer than till my 3am (ýours 8pm) ...
practice combos, play safe and the match will be interesting
chiefy and bad daddy are in. Just pm'd me. Add to the op.
Yes, we're in and looking for a third, if anyone is sitting around without a team. We've both only been playing sporadically lately (I'll be honest here) but we'll both try to get as many games in as we can to get ready for the tourney.
What?!?!!! (btw, now i'm french, don't you remember?)
You know what, i declare our team dissolved , and myself as a free agent now, so anyone interested in me please contact my ag.. i mean, contact me. What do you say, Cheesov, wanna team with me up and win this tourney easily? We can have father Jong as our 3rd musketeer, he's always been a loyal and trustable friend (pun, pun).
Good lord Nomi, you Frenchmen are as quick to anger as you are reluctant to take a shower.
Hedgie! Do you see what your sucky internet is doing to our friendships?!
I'm so sorry T_T
I'd also want to participate in it, though without a donation (prize is not needed for me, just fun )
And if votes still are accepted, I vote for a draft.
