The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
A couple of thoughts on that Pacov:
1) I'm a mediocre player at best if this tournament is going to be FFA demigod selection cause I've never had much interest in playing the top characters... but if this tournament is going to to have Orcun's or some other method of demigod balancing, then I'm a lot more valuable to be on a team. Just something to consider when ranking players...
2) I personally would rather play on a team with my buds Hedgie and Nom (hopefully they feel the same!) and get stomped by better teams than be assigned to a team where someone is taking this way too seriously and is going to scream at me on vent for not playing exactly how he thinks I should play (Is AbornExile going to be playing in this thing?) or with someone who's not taking this seriously at all and isn't going to show up and play.
3) If this is round robin format (playing against all the other teams, not switching teams) then we're all going to play each other and just about every team should have some fun, competitive matchups even if they get stomped by some good teams.
4) If we all get set up with teammates we want, then its more likely we can get our teams together to play. I'm hoping theres going to be some sort of demigod balancing system like Orcun's and if there is it might be kinda hard to get along together with assigned teams:
Player 1: Ok... I'll be playing UB and you can play my QoT support bitch-
Player 2: Fuck that, I'm playing Beast and you can be my Sedna support bitch-
Player 3: I have to play UB! I don't know how to play any demigods other than UB... I've never learned how to do anything in this game but spit on people and then right click on them till they die. Oh, and occasionally pop a sigil... I can do that to!
hi all ; )
i would like to take part in this tournament but i have a few questions:
1. are those 10$ obligatory? i mean do i have to pay to take part? ( i know 10$ aren't much but not everyone lives in california and earns millions)
2. if i bring a teammate do we have to play separately? (this is teams tournament or solo?) what teams are allowed? 2vs2 3vs3?
3. what a bout demigod picking?will be there a table like in previous tournament showing which combo is allowed and which isn't?
4. what a bout the fighting system ? it will be like hmm mundial cup, so we have groups then 3rd round, semifinals, final etc? or it will be all for all ?
best regards
; )
So i've read everyones posts and think there is a lot of great input.
Pangea, I can say with almost certainty that the $10 registration fee will not be obligatory and will be optional. The bottom line is, if $10 isn't much money to you and you want to play in the tourney then please do the right thing and donate. With that said, someone on your team could spare $10 lol.
I like Orcun's/hedgies/pacovs idea in regards to demigod selection. For orcun's point system i would move the reg up to 3 points, and not 2, (mines and snipe are pretty damn effective lol.)
We could also just simplify it and say that you can have 1 (rook or UB) and 1 (oak or LE) and whatever else. What do you guys think?
I agree with Pacov though, we should now focus on team selection while we work out the tourney details. My suggestion is, again to just keep it simple, that based on the former list generated by the community, only one tier 1 player per team and no more than two tier 2 players per team. This would help prevent super teams but would give flexibility for team generation. If your name isn't on that list then there are no restrictions.
Oh, i don't know if you guys noticed the OMG in front of nomilarac's name lol. (ya know, it kinda looks like the OMG in front of my name - hint hint)
For the last tournament, there were a lot of late registrations that happened close to the tourney start. By complicating the registration process i would think this would be detrimental to the tourney.
The issues that i foresee with randomly generated teams have mostly been mentioned, some people may not be serious enough and team synergy issues etc. We also don't want people fo feel slighted because they have a team mate that they dont want.
While this should go without saying though, primary accounts should only be used for the tourney and 1 entry per person. Using an alt-nick and entering twice would DQ both teams that the offender is on.
Spreading the word:
How do we get this info out to the players that used to play and the players that currently play that don't participate in the forums?
j
Yeah baby, let the bitch-slap fight for me begin!
Now this is starting to get silly, I'm fine with the Demigod selection rules. However "only one tier 1 player per team", I don't associate with any of the commoners not on the Tier 1 list lol. How am I supposed to get excited about a tournament when I can't have a single friend on my team?
classic^^
A very good point McShake.
I guess that is a question we need to answer. It's also a very difficult one to answer since all of the tier 1's will most likely want no restrictions and all of the tier 2's and below will want restrictions.
The more i think about it, the more i think there shouldn't be a restriction on the teams and the main reason for that is i think team restrictions will prevent people from entering the tournament.
If everyone can weigh in on this so we can reach a decision i would appreciate it.
I think 2 tier 1s and 1 tier 2 per team. This would exclude anyone not fitting that criteria though.
hedgie - you in or out for playing in the tourney? Another thought that might speed things up - team captains - then a draft? Here's how I'd rank our current roster. 1's and 1.5's to not annoy too much. Also, don't complain if if I've thrown you in with the 1.5's and you think you are better. Worst cast scenario, you'd end up with a better team and have an easier go in the tourney.
1's
1.5's
unknown
So, as it is right this second, we have 13 known quantities (8 tier 1, 5 tier 1.5). If we went with a captain approach, we'd pick 4 tier 1's and then draft. We could use some more tier 1's in the list...
People that I'm thinking might be interested but haven't committed - ninki - hedgie. Anyone still chatting with renz0? He'd make a nice addition to the tourney... also, where the fug is rawrrr? He comment here and I missed it? I assume he'd want to play.
I'd like to sort teams if possible and then figure out the rules, but whatever. Any of the tier 1's should be fine with playing with any character, so the only real limiting factor would be if a tier 1.5 can't play specific dgs well, etc.
edit:
I don't really think the tier 1's are going to be too pissy about restrictions. All made due with our last tourney and I think had fun.
Rawr said he was probably not playing and I'll mention it to Renz next time I see him. Not sure how much he enjoyed the last tournament though, because of the fact that he lives in such a different time zone then most others.
good point and thx for the heads up on rawrrr and checking in with renz. Much appreciated.
Where does rawr live? I always thought he lived in the US just like most of you. Btw, who's stiffyG? I think i never played with him unless he's a smurf of someone else.
Oh, and i have a slight suspicion Defender___ could actually be Orcun, since their connections don't support anything more than 3v3. I could be completely wrong, though.
add mith!
It's Renz who lives in the different time zone not Rawrr. You're wrong about Defender_, but the guy is a viscious animal, you should see his Erebus.
Adding now - thx zen - must have missed him
OMFG, Pacov, i'm totally offended and im like a 1.25! I'd totally be a 1.1 if i could play the assassins better! (i just don't like them lol)
I don't associate with those downtroden 1.5's.
In all seriousness though, my comment on restrictions earlier was referencing the players on the teams, and not the actual demigod selection.
Cowbutt might be interested but isn't sure about his current connection.
FYI I just thought of a way to 'advertise' the tournament - set up a passworded lobby in custom games and idle in there while i play SC2 lol.
What does everyone think about a draft?
Thpppth! I remember working you over one game like you were a tier 1.7 player so don't be getting all snobby.
Demigod or player draft?
I know who it is and it's not Orcun but I don't know if he wants me to tell everybody who he is.
Btw I told koush about the tourney but he doesn t seem intrested.
LoL Thunder, you damn 1.1's have such an ego !
Player draft a la Pacov's suggestion. Tier 1's would be the captains.
Mith, did you tell Koush that there's a cash prize lol
Regarding tiers,
Stiffy G is formally known as STFNG and it would almsot be an insult to have him with the rest of the people in the tier 1. I started calling him Stiffy G a long time ago and he changed his name to it not to long ago LOL.
The rest look good, and on a side note I think I only have MAJOR connection issues with Pacov.
I do disconnect randomly right now on this internet even on SC2 (which really sucks when your trying to get above 50% in your 1v1 games) so that will just have to be dealt with on a game to game basis. I think everyone would be will to replay a game if my connection failed miserably.
it's an insult to everyone once cow is there
Anyway soccermom would only play in the tournament, if he can play in a team with people he knows, zex and me.
@mith
don't tell'm
not anymore cow. I think I might have that sorted... I have to drop my router and direct connect to the internet... but so far, so good... and you never know... demigod may bite me in ass even with a direct connect setup.
pft I'm not T1 it's been ferever. I doubt I know how to play at all (:
I'm still not committing though. I dunno how soon this is going to start and what my internet connection will be like and would rather not screw up everyone else.
Koush is a big boy in University now, I doubt he has time for silly things like this.
I still have contact with Maggie, but I highly doubt he'd want to join since he's making too much money right now.
I could ask Jona_, he's still around.
Big surprise there. Similar to saying "Hey that water is wet"
