The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
not if i have to carry the team lol, otherwise she can be close to tier1 with top aggresive teammates
double post
Hey all,
i got back from vacation. I might as well join the tourney but i wouldn't be able to pay the 10$ but also i don't really want the prize if i happen to be in the wining team either. I haven't played a single game in like 3-4 months so i probably am not that good atm but would be fun for me to join anyways.
Regarding Dg selection issue, my proposal would be as follows.
1-DA.
2-Reg.
3-Qot,TB.
4-Sedna,Occulus.
5-Oak,Le.
6-Rook,Ub.
And the total amount of point that can be used to make the team is 13.
There's no official entry price - just asking who would be willing to contribute to the prize or if they'd pay an entry fee. WB Orcun.
Orcun, we totally need to get this premade crew started up for season 2 of you-know-what.
I've been practicing for your return. MWA HAHAHA.
My overly complicated ideas aside, I think Orcun's proposal is my favorite so far.
Welcome back man!
As far as balancing player skill level goes, whats everyone thinking? I'm not looking forward to playing against Orcun/Zex/Zen with Nomilariche and some random dude on my team that we would consider ourselves lucky if he showed up for a game or two.
I'm calling shenanigans.

I actually have the best solution... matter of fact. Will post either in a bit tonight or tomorrow.. methinks you will agree.
going to sleep in a min... the real matter that will make the tourney fun is actual teams imo.
We should start with team discussion and sorting that.
THEN - we talk about rules. If we had actually semi balanced teams (oh - and I could make them quite reasonably), then we'd have best 2 out of 3 matches.
the rules would be:
That method would clearly show a superior team if they had a 2 game sweep.
I still can't believe none of you are picking up on the most important concept - its the teams. If we have super team vs just about super team vs meh team... the outcome is highly predictable. That's why my starting point is in us coming up with good teams. Even if it just boiled down to 2 tier 1s + a 2 vs 2 tier 1s + a 2 every game. To me, that's fun. If its just make the super team... not as much.
Also - it's been decided that zen_god must play as qot in the tourney.
Who's that Nomilariche? Oh, if you meant me , who said i'd be willing to play with a meh player like you?
On a serious note, maybe we should actually not play in the same team, cos you're the farthest player i can play with while still being barely playable (we're dangerously close to 350ms ping to each other). Perhaps we should do a test previous to the tourney.
About rules, IMHO all teams should have the same restrictions in all matches, and we should try to keep those rules-restrictions as simple as possible (KISS). The 3 Demigod Tiers system by Hedgie (QoT in T2 or whatever) should be good enough, but i'll accept whatever is agreed by the community.
P.S: Are you not playing after all Hedgie? I'd say you will have your "better" internet by the time the tourney starts.
P.S.2 : WB Orcun.
hey did i get left out again
whatever orcun, demigod is like riding bycicle. Once you really learn how, you'll never forget again ^^ Anyway, I agree that rook is part of the strongest combo in a 3on3
None of us picked up on that?
I vote game three is both teams have restrictions, then it sounds like a good idea.
All the chumps who only like playing all tier 1 combos still get to in at least one game of LE/Oak/Rook gayness, but those of us who'd prefer to see just a little bit of variety (is it just me who wants to see more than 2-3 dominant demigod combos played in every deciding game?!) have some love.
I'm referring to the human players on a team... not the characters they select...
I'm waiting for your solution since last night, you teasing mother-f.......
Pacov: I know.
"As far as balancing player skill level goes, whats everyone thinking? I'm not looking forward to playing against Orcun/Zex/Zen with Nomilariche and some random dude on my team that we would consider ourselves lucky if he showed up for a game or two."
I've been trying to bring it up too but no one seems to be interested in stating their position or ideas one way or another on the subject..
----
Nomi: His solution is to play free choice vs restricted DG choice 1st game... in other words Oak/Rook/UB/or LE vs the losing team. Then switch it around the next game so the other team loses. Then Oak/Rook/UB or LE mirror match for the final deciding game.
This way one team can have bragging rights or a tiebreaking option if they sweep a team by using worse demigod selection. If this is how its going to be played I don't think that we could bring Hedgie back for the Official Beast On Every Team In Every Game Tournament.
Well... every deciding game in every competitive matchup anyway. He doesn't much care for playing against Rooks either if you've noticed.
I propose that we'd make as even teams as possible (again, not talking about dg selection). Its actually pretty easy to judge if the teams we have created are pretty even - especial for those of us that think we are great. Here's an example:
Team 1: pacov, jongalt, zex
Team 2: mcshane, zen, orcun
And the test of whether or not those teams are balanced: swap any one player from team 2 for me or cow on team 1. For example:
New team 1: zen, jon, zex
Team 2: mcshane, pacov, orcun
I'd think any of those combos would actually be fun, but if I was making odds, I'd look at it this way.
Original team 1 vs Original team 2 - team 2 has 60% chance to win
New team 1 vs New team 2 - team 2 has a 55% chance to win.
Anyway, I think the closer we get the matches without coming up against a slouch of a team, the more fun it will be.
I can't wait! i've been having some crazy queen action going on D:
why don't we mix that with a point system of demigod selection. i'm always for variety. And the last 2on2 tournament we had some really interesting combos:)
something like orcun's approach or earlier ones in this thread.
I'd love to join the tournament but i'm not sure about the 10 $ like orcun i'm not in for the cash but for the fun
hmmm? Are you saying I would play the "Official Beast" (: My UB isn't bad. Just very few players have seen it because I can support another UB better than that player can support me (95% of the time) and so it's better if I play the support character.
ALSO I WANT TO PLAY DOW AND CIV V SO BADLY OMFG
and I hate Rook
again - buying in doesn't matter... just asking who would be willing to do so. No worries!
The 10$ isn't required. Its mostly a donation/motivation for getting more people interested I think...
Hedgie: I'm sure you're great at Beast and Oak... Its just I wasn't sure you wanted to join the tier 1 demigod parade (not that sure I do either) that this tourney seems to be shaping into. Plus, the only tier 1 demigod I'm good at is Rook, and I wasn't sure you'd still respect me in the morning if I used him for this tourney.
all I have to say to you is why are you not on Steam
Bout to have dinner and watch another episode of Rome with the ball and chain. I'll be available tomorrow for whatever whenever.
I think we should do assigned teams... remember that obnoxious tier 1, tier 2 list I made awhile back? Mayhaps we should pick 3 folks and rank the players that want in the tourney (0-100 points), then assign teams based on that. I still think team selection should be our primary focus, then dg/rule selection.
