The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hey baddaddy - just so you know, you don't need a REGISTERED ALTERNATE. Anyone that's not currently on a team can be your alternate. I just left the name of the free agents in the op so it might be easier to track down some folks that would like to play. Just want to make sure thats clear so you don't feel like your options are limited to those I listed in the OP. Maybe you could snag up morpheas768 now that he's back.
Thanks pacov. I realized that right after I posted. I appreciate the info, though. Maybe I will track down Morpheus. He can hook us up with gigs of Asian women pics, too.
It looks like we are going to be unable to play in the tournament. Cheify and I haven't heard from Lord Orion in nearly 2 weeks, and it is looking less and less likely that we will manage to get our games in this week. We have tried to recruit several other players, but due to scheduling conflicts or other reasons, we have been unable to find a replacement. Jongalt, I would wait till Friday to remove us from the Results Tracker, on the extreme off chance Orion surfaces, but if you hear nothing else, you can go ahead and remove us.
I'm not exactly sure what caused Orion to drop off the map, especially after spending so much time working to get the rules in place and serving an alternate judge, but I hope everything is alright with him. If he just didn't feel like playing with us, well, I can understand that, but I figured he would say something...
Anyway, we will be available, and happy, to play any tourney teams who can't find another game, or just random pugging. See you out there!
I'll keep my ear to the ground for a replacement and for orion as well if he doesn't surface soon. I share your concern and hope everything is ok with him.
I know you guys have been trying to get a replacement and want to make this happen.
Thanks, pacov.
Try to find someone to replace Orion Baddaddy - there's no rush to pull you guys out of the tourney - the 2 matches per week isn't a hard number. See what you can do.
Good luck !

Yeah, thanks for the encouragement Jongalt. We have been in touch with several people, to no avail. Anyone else who we play with regularly is already engaged.
Maybe when we get on this weekend we can get someone to sign up.
Maybe check out orions game history - he has a mod crazy town that he's been working on and loves playing that... not sure if he hosts those online. Anyway, I pm'd him.
A suggestion, and it could be painful, but i might recommend doggu. I know he wanted in the tournament but couldn't lock down a team and he's on quite a bit from what I've seen. Now, you should know that doggu's a very competitive fellow and also falls into the category of letting you know when you do something that he doesn't like, which doesn't exactly mesh with your fella's attitude toward the game. You'd have to have a chat with him and try to make it clear that you guys want to be competitive, but are playing for fun - so please try to keep the "wtf why'd you do that" comments to himself. I'm pretty sure that's something he's quite capable of - especially if you guys have a talk about it in advance. Anyway, if you guys are all up for that, he's a pretty solid player and then you'd have a team, at least.
Good suggestion, but already tried. He said that with his Aus. time zone, he had decided it would be difficult to play when all us ESTers were on, which I found odd, since I encounter his hosted games more regularly than probably anyone else's, but whatever.
Yes, he can be on the curt side, which we have both learned the hard way, but was gracious enough in our correspondence.
Thinking of hosting some "Need a Tourney Player" lobbies this weekend and seeing who drops in. I'd play with a total noob at this point, I just want to get some games in.
Might be a good idea.
I think i might be able to get ahold of Kiamori if you would like me to.
yeah - kia would make a fun teammate.
That would be great, Jongalt. An "introduction" might be fitting, since I think I/we only have played a handful of games with him.
If a team is disqualified but has played other teams and lost. Are those points going to be taken away from the team that beat them to make the point system even?
Yes Jona, that seems to be the most fair way to cover it.
All games will still be tracked though.
Um - so, guess what. I think baddaddy and chiefy are about to be happy. I was talking with trousersnake (old school tier 1 player) and he is willing to hook up with you guys and at the very least play a few pugs. He'd like it if you guys could hop on vent Friday around 10PM est. He will be a little rusty, but I think after a few games, he'll be right back into the swing of things.
Hey guys - I want to throw this out to the decision making panel as I think its a pretty important topic to discuss. I'd like to extend the amount of time allocated for the first week and not disqualify anyone for not getting their games in. As it stands, I'd wager we'd have to dq a substantial amount of players (which kind of makes our tourney a complete waste). I'd like to give EVERYONE 1 more week to get their first 6 games in. Remember, we don't want to dq anyone - we just want players that aren't willing to make the effort or aren't serious about playing in the tourney to be identified quickly. We absolutely do not want to hurt players that are trying to get their games in, but have no one to play against. I've had a few chats with folks recently that were a bit discouraged because they were trying but weren't able to get their games in. I'd also like to make the official "end of the week" date to sunday at midnight to complete games. Whatcha think?
Another full week sounds insane to me. I'd say another couple of days at the most. There's a clear lack of effort if it takes 2 full weeks to play 6 games. It doesn't seem like enough teams are taking advantage of the scheduling thread.
well - i disagree. I don't think we are really pushing things all that far by giving folks an extra week at the start of the tourney. As it stands today, I think like 50% of the teams if not more would be dq'd. And you have to keep in mind that some folks aren't used to hoping on vent, etc. Anyway, I'm not talking about every 6 games taking 2 weeks, I'm talking about our first week of the tournament being extended by 1 week to give folks a chance to get their games in. I think that after 2 weeks, it should be clear who is going to play and who is not. So, imo, give everyone a one week cushion, and then lets press on. Sounds fair to me, at least.
I'm okay with pushing this first week another week before enforcing a more stringent conditions. I'd like this tourney to actually have all 12 or so teams (:
Boom - decision panel vote 2 to 1. Team's will NOT be dq'd if they fail to get 6 games in by the end of next week Sunday (10/31). We agree that we will enforce dq's etc after that time.
If any of you are having trouble scheduling and need some help, please reply here. We'd really like to get as many of you as possible playing in the tourney!
And remember, there is a scheduling thread in the OP. Go there and post when you and your team are available to play!
Thanks pacov and co. We're working hard to replace Lord_Orion, and hope to do so over the weekend. If anyone runs into a mid-level or higher player looking to join the tourney late, please have them PM me.
Played with his guy yesterday and he was pretty good. He seemed interested in the tourney.

Thanks Zex. And for the gg last night. Double-minion is sooo annoying.
LMAO would of been fun to see how that game turned out if peter didn't desync. I think we would of turned it around because they became very easy to kill after I got some running shoes on.
