The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
I was in the focus group for SupCom (mainly active total Annihilation grognards who made mods, helped new people, and also wrote articles), and we all discussed demigod before it was even in development. There are several people here who were involved with demigod around 2004, and their influence is easily recognized if you could read the old forums. eg: Concepts, specific names, game paradigms/mechanics.
If you want some examples I can tell you where concepts originated.
-TB is drawn from Ignus in Planescape:Torment (manic laughter included)- and the discussion included how fire and ice on Ravel was an interesting dichotomy.-DA is drawn from reptile in mortal combat II (too bad invisibility didn't work out in game mechanics)-The name Regulus comes from the desire to name a character after a constellation/star. The discussion was a strange tangent that started with the whole hunter Orion mythology and a nasty beast to be aligned against (UB) and somehow was sidetracked into start trek II and the regula 1 research station (hence regulus)-Rook comes from Battle Chess-The name Occulus comes from one of the bosses in Dungeons Explorer simply because it was cool.-Specific desire to be micro unintensive, yet deep mechanics based on timing. including a discussion for assassins to be for Gauntlet like players and generals to be for RTS guys,
I dunno, point blank you are a great player, but you behavior towards others shows your bad judgement. 1337 player are notoriously bad at looking at all angles of balance for a game. Not everyone can do the things you can do, and it is important to NOT design a game around what the top players can do. (this was also a discussion)
heh orion.
interesting insight!
Nice post Orion !
you should have seen the post i deleted you are welcome, btw.
rumor mill has it that kalel is replacing hedgie... ooooo
it should be accurate
updated the op to reflect kalel replacing hedgie.
New team: Commando5551, Rezzan, and T-Schert
I hope that's all I need to say...
Added to the roster.
jesus this tournament will take decades. We need a rule in case a person deceases!
Proposed rule:
Zen_God is required to ressurect all players who decease during the tournament.
j
Yes Zen, Jongalt and I need to be able to name a successor should we die of old age before this tournament ends.
Teseer ol buddy, are you lurking around the forums? Would you consider carrying the torch for our team if I don't make it?
guys - we need to do some additional advertising of the demigod sale and the tourney. Most of us have been around for quite some time and getting new blood into the game is very important. Don't just sit on your butt because we already have a decent pot for the tourney. Help out!
I'm going to post the sale at slickdeals.net tonight and will pm a few folks over on joystiq.com. Can someone post at fatwallet.com and cheapassgamers? Let's draw some more attention outside of the email that went out from SD.
Edit - here's what I posted over at slick deals - you guys are fully welcome to copy this and paste into the other sites: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=190314&t=2291933. Let's get the word out. And FYI, I don't work for SD. I receive no money from SD. I'm just a DG fan and I'd love to not only see this game be successful, but see a sequel at some point because its financially viable.
meh - a mod copied my post on slickdeals and moved it into another thread with very little descriptions... woo for them. Anyway, my post is now here: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=190314&t=2277351
Cheapassgamers already has the sale posted, i also just posted on fatwallet.com
I copied your description Pacov thanks! lol I dont have time today to type up a separate one.
Thanks, jon!
Bloodowl pm'd me and let me know that his team has disbanded - removing BloodOwl/Richz403/DaddyMandingo from the registered teams.
yeah - but better they sort this out now than after the tourney starts.
I'm adding another rule to our tourney:
For those of you who didn't participate or follow our first tournament, rules like this are important - especially because its up to the players to schedule their own matches. We will open up a scheduling thread so people can more easily get in touch with everyone before the tournament starts. But everyone should be very aware that THEY need to be proactive in getting your matches in.
On that note, I'd really like for us to make a coordinated effort to get in several games the day the tourney begins (10/16). I think that will help out some of the folks that will struggle getting matches in. Ideally, if several teams would commit in advance to being available to play at X time, that would be great.
I made a mistake, my in game profile is named Commando51. Not sure if that's important, just letting you know.
So I have a team that I would like added to the tournament, the members are me (arkANG3L), swordguyj, and Firefromthesky.
My brother and I have been trying hard to get other people to play. I think We talked 6 other people into joining. Love demigod, just never play online. So probably not going to win the thing.
Question, what time are the games supposed to start on Sat?
i'm not sure if this has been mentioned already, but the uber fix mod is creating a critical error when I play online. I'm not sure what's causing the desync, but since the new version is needed for the tournament I'm trying to fix it ASAP. Has anyone else had this problem?
causes a crit game state if there are different versions in the lobby. Make sure everyone in your game has the same version
is there another possible cause? we have the same version, so I don't think that's what it is.
its no problem. I'll change it for you.
adding your team. Welcome!
Well, our tournament might work a little differently than you think. All of the games won't be played on Saturday (if you do the math, we have 15 teams that all have to play each other once and some games can take up to an hour). In fact, I expect the tournament to take a few weeks to wrap up. But that said, I am going to make an effort to get several teams lined up and ready to play on saturday, but I don't know the time atm. I'll post some more details when I have them, but please feel free to indicate here when on Saturday you (and all teams are requested to do this) are available to play this Saturday. It would be great if all of us got at least 1 match in on Sat (10/16)
So - if you all disable it, do you still get critical errors? We'll definitely look into this.
You do have the version I linked to in the op? Here's a direct link to exactly what you guys should download. Please try that again (and remember, EVERYONE - even the people you are playing against MUST be using the same version or the crit will appear). http://code.google.com/p/uberfix/downloads/detail?name=UberFixv103_RC2.zip&can=2&q=
