The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
I still think that attacking a citadel while you have a lot of creeps by the citadel (eg, you have a portal, or Giants to their Priests) should be legal.
The reason is, again, you didn't win because of minion strats. If you have Giants and they only have Priests, you heavily outplayed them and won via skill. Similarly, if you have portals and walking around their citadel, attacking them is fine too. When a player is planning on destroying the citadel is it very obvious and straightforward.
ok - so stepping back to the participation prize (which will come out of the pot), does 1 person win it or a whole team. Then we will finish out money discussion.
Participation Prize:
For exactly 1 person
For an entire team
VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You keep misconstruing what I say,
I am saying take money out of the pot, use it to buy impulse games X,Y,Z. (heh, and find something on sale, so when the sale ends it looks like they got more money in prize then you spent)
Send the winners the key. (not sure if there is a gift option in impulse) This is better then simply sending them cash.
I would say 3x random draws for all players on teams who finished all their games, not for a whole team.
Pacov, you mustve replied while i was typing sorry about that. I can certainly understand the position of not going back to stardock. They've been more the generous.
I don't think the current option of one person from the teams that finish all of their games, winning a token amount of cash is a very effective motivator. The intent of the raffle is to provide a motivation for completion. I also think that taking even more money from the pot would be detrimental for the winners.
If i had to choose between the current option and no raffle i choose no raffle and scratch the idea entirely.
Or we could try and come up with something else.

I would rather get cash than a game I probably don't want. I can understand if the money SD provides is partially or entirely in some form of store credit. But otherwise, if people want to buy a certain game with their prize money, hooray, same thing is accomplished.. otherwise let them decide on their own how to spend it.
Entire team.
On future votes, you can give Lord_Orion 3 votes and we'll just let him vote for our team.
Jongalt officially has Nom and my power of attorney.
agreed.
These fellas accidentally posted in the finance thread, so I'm copying their post here and adding to the roster.
I'm glad RobertMunch actually wants to play some good teams. It's too bad he doesn't normally want to play high level games.. maybe that will change in the near future then? Hopefully!
for info: our team (#10) has UTC+3 time.
Who is lord_orin and why do I not have a vote in the panel since i Have played this game longer than anyone still here
Lol. I do wonder how my teammates and me are going to arrange our games since each of us is at UTC-11, UTC-5 and UTC+1 respectively
what's utc?
Teseer played in the beta and pacov and I were game-day adopters
I also played in the beta.
Unless I missed it, I don't think your team has registered though. Who is your team?
I think the oak rule should be as long as you are past catass and have been using your minions to attack players instead of only focusing on buildings. Because I do not see the problem in sending your spirits to finish off the citadel if for some reason the other team have pushed your creep wave back and you have destroyed all the front towers with your. But now you have to defend a portal or your citadel. Saying an oak has to be with his spirits at all time isn't fair because a minion oak is to weak too be in battle with his spirits at all times.
disagreed. Soccer has played a minion Oak w/ RoDM and was still able to push into portals and attack successfully. Regardless.. it's not that he has to be in battle at all times w/ his spirits.. just that if he wants to focus the citadel he has to be there. He can send his minions across the map from him as long as he's not putting them on the citadel.
I disagree a minion oak should be allowed to finish off a citadel if its below 25%
I'd say in that situation it'd be a ruling call. There's a justifiable reason to do so (this is the stuff that I pointed out earlier), and if he hasn't touched the citadel the whole game, then does it just to finish it off then they obviously won through skill (in order to get it down to that 25% or whatever) rather than just minion cheese
Put another way, I think that a no-tolerance policy is akin to saying "You can go Blood. But if you do, you can't sigil. Only people who don't have blood can sigil". Yes, people who have blood get an advantage in sigil wars. You "could" say that they won only because of their build/favor item selection. And you'd be mostly correct (identical build beasts fight at level 10 on the XP flag, with the exact same items and neutral flags. The Blood Beast will beat the Swift Anklet Beast, and that's mostly only because of build/favor item selection, not out of personal skill).
Similarly, if a game comes down to a "nuke the citadel down first!" (both teams swap portals or something like that), then the team with the minion Oak has an advantage. I think that's okay.
A pure minion Oak can push the side portals, yes. And they should. Nothing wrong with that. But there are situations where the game is do X or lose. If we outlaw X, then I think that's rather arbitrary, and it doesn't really accomplish anything. Most players would do X, then try to appeal, with the 10% chance of keeping their victory. It's better than losing no matter what. It only inflates the amount of games we have to review if we make the rule stringent.
If we know the end of the game is that a minion Oak nukes the citadel, and we watch the first 5-10 minutes of the replay (just watching build order and item selection... that's it) we will probably be able to make an accurate guess whether or not the minion player was planning on spiriting the citadel down.
teny time bump
edit - guys - please take a look at the op again. Let me know if you think we are missing any important rules, etc. Tourney starts next Saturday. 1 week to finalize everything.
Looks complete to me.
Clarification needed. Is a disqualification one loss out of the 3 games?
It depends on what you do. If anyone intentionally desyncs and its proven (eg "wooo I'm going to desync the game, bro"), that team is out of the tourney period. If there is a rule violation, its just for that specific game. For instance, no matter what rule we put in place regarding oak's spirits. If its violated, it only counts for the specific game. If teams won't play by the rules we set in this thread, they will be disqualified per game (eg all games must be played by the rules we set).
Thanks for reading over things, orion.
