The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Alternates
Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
I call high treason to my dear friend Thundercles by that vermin some people call hedgie!!!
I also accuse him of spionage of my team strategies disguised as a non-participating expectator!
To the stake with him!!!!
Added to the list. I knew we'd get nana to play before too long.
There is a mix of skill levels. It's hard for me to say how well you'd do vs so and so without having played against you, but I'd doubt you guys would lose every single game. I don't think you'd have a problem playing from the same IP. Of course, it would probably be best to ensure that - maybe host a game online sometime soon and see if you have any problems.
I can play a solid LE if you need someone on team. I currently don't have team, but am looking. I admit I find the generals more boring to play but I can do anyway. Lemme know
i am still loking for a team, would like to find one on so we can practise together,i play a strong sedna, beast ,tb,reg, rook pm me if !
if jona won't be drunk, 4nana gets his **** together, and hedgie just be hedgie you guys are going to be dangerous
Jona, would you like some free booze?
There's definitely a mix of skill levels. LoL will be good training for Demigod since it is a similar style game. I'd recommend hosting some 3v3 custom games and getting in some practice. Some people have had issues playing from the same IP so you would also want to check that out. Hopefully you won't have any issues.
Jon
I... Well... At a loss for words right now... this cowardly betrayal is almost too much to bear... to beer? Heh... I'm just so distraught right now I've lost the power to spell the word bair?
Bad enough I've got to see him in the tourney and pretend to be all awkwardly nice like when you run into an ex: "Hey! Wow! You look great! Its really good to see you! Wow! Hope you're doing great!" but also he practiced Demigod espionage by listening to me tell him my super secret Demigod selection for the tourney!
Now everyone will know I'm playing TB.
I'm off to compose some breakup poetry and songs Alanis Morisette style because my heart hurts.
No he wouldn't. But I'll take it for him!
Well then, expect some pure grain alcohol. You must drink 1 cup with a mixer of your choice within 30 minutes of playing me/nom/thunder. Jona will be required to do the same. I will accompany said pure grain with BAC level testing strips
Voting - Payout Options- Current Tally
They Payout Options below do not include a participation prize. The participation prize will be a raffle amongst the teams or players who have finished the game. Let's nail down the initial split first then work out the raffle afterwards.
The anticipated pot is currently $700 so I will use this as a basis for my suggested break downs:
Pot Split 1
$90 goes to the team that wins the round robin
50% of the balance goes to the winner of the playoffs ($305 for the team, $101.66 ea.)
30% of the balance goes to the 2nd place winner of the playoffs ($183 for the team, $61 ea)
20% of the balance goes to the 3rd place winner of the playoffs ($122 for the team, $40.66 ea.)
Pot Split 2
10% goes to the team that wins the round robin ($70)
50% of the balance goes to the winner of the playoffs ($315 for the team, $105 ea.)
25% of the balance goes to the 2nd place winner of the playoffs ($157.5 for the team, $52.5 ea)
15% of the balance goes to the 3rd place winner of the playoffs ($94.5 for the team, $31.50 ea.)
Pot Split 3
55% of the balance goes to the winner of the playoffs ($335.5 for the team, $111.83 ea.)
15% of the balance goes to the 3rd place winner of the playoffs ($91.5 for the team, $30.50 ea.)
Pot Split 4
40% of the balance goes to the 2nd place winner of the playoffs ($252 for the team, $84 ea)

Please get your votes in! This vote closes tonight.
After some serious games and some not so serious games I have come to question our current demigod restrictions.
Right now it appears that the dominate teams revolve around Oculus, queen, and sedna with a tier 1 demigod.
Now to fix this I propose a new demigod restriction that looks like this:
Reg, DA = 1
TB, QoT = 2
Sedna, Oculus = 3
UB, Rook, Erebus, Oak = 4
Maximum of 9 points.
I think this will make the demigod selection almost completely balanced. If we are going to use Uberfix it will also increase Oculus's strength and he already is showing up in most of the wins in the matches I have played in.
Please reconsider the restrictions....
I'm willing to discuss this further if other's feel the same way as cow.
Thanks for collecting the info again, jon. I was just about to look it all up. Much appreciated. And I agree - this vote closes tonight. I vote for option 2, but I do want to make it clear that we will VERY LIKELY be adding 1 additional item to the pot split: the participation raffle. We'll come up with some exact rules for how that will work out, but I think it would be best to give exactly 1 individual, selected randomly from everyone "not in the money" that completed all of their games. So, everyone is eligible as long as they complete all of their games and have not won any money in the tournament.
I think a flat value like $20-30 would be a good prize and it doesn't exactly crush the other values. Its not alot, but hopefully at least some additional motivation for people to keep on playing if they feel like they won't make it to the final 4 after some games.
McShane and I both change our votes for Cow's new restriction list.
Remember, I have his power of attorney!
Lol that's actually great if Sedna, Occulus, and UB isn't allowed anymore, it's the only combo that has seemed troubling so far. Especially after uberfix gets turned on so Occulus will be removing negative effects too. I like it.
Yea its to good.
EDIT: After looking at it again I still see possible issues with queen + oculus/senda + Ub being a bit OP
So:
DA, REG = 1
TB = 2
QoT, Sed, Oculus = 3
Rook, UB, Oak, Erebus = 4
MAX = 9
I think I got it figured out now... sigh...
EDIT 2: Perhaps a vote like this is in order:
Cow's theory 1
Cow's theory 2
Or keep as is.
Anyway I am off to class I hope you guys can give me some feedback when I sit down later tonight.
boo... farewell to my fav combo we'll see - really need to see some agreement from several folks to change this up.
I vote for split 1
Cow, don't divide up the votes like that. Just put your new theory up against the old restriction method and lets vote.
If this ends up a 10 way vote for Cow's Theories 1-9 and the old restriction list, I'll tell you right now we're not going to change to something better. Now go ninja edit your original post and be quick about it man!
I like your first theory, but not the second. The 2nd removes a little bit too much I think.
But yes.. occulus does seem to be prevalent even w/out the brainstorm fix.. which is really quite powerful.
I doubt many people will go Queen and Occulus with UB as their only interrupt and Queen + Sedna with UB could be strong but I wouldn't say overpowered.
The issue mostly lies with the fact that Erebus and Oak are too expensive, not Sedna and Occulus being too cheap. Occulus + Sedna/Queen offers support and has two generals, and both can back up a T1. If you use Erebus or Oak, then your choice is two T2 (most of which are generals and don't have the best synergy) or one other T1 (Rook/UB) + Reg.
If you're worried about a Sedna, honestly just use a Rook and shut her down. If they use Queen instead, then they only have one interrupt.
Basically, you see a problem with one particular combination and scream OP (when it really isn't that bad to begin with. Again, Rook shuts her down) and attaching a band-aid to stop that one combination instead of looking at the other flaws.
