The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
Give it a go, jona! I feel pretty confident that the cash prize involved is about to become quite a bit more than you'd expect.
how did my name get up there before I even knew about the tourney lol. And everyone teamd up with me sadface. I wonder if kalel will join my team ninki is uber busy
heh - i just added you after you chimed in on the dg tourney money page.
you gotta convince ninki! he's lying that league of legends player! I know he's super busy but 2 games a day for the old days won't kill him
Well... since a lot of top notch players want the third game to be played without restrictions "for the sake of more variety" then I suggest we make the second game more restrictive... for the sake of dg variety of course.
1) DA, Reg
2) TB, QoT, Sed, Occ
3) Rook, UB, Oak, LE
1st game as already agreed, 3rd game FFA selection, 2nd game you use one shitty DG (group 1) one medium DG (group 2) and a tier 1 (group 3) dg.
The way things are now it will be probably be two top dgs and a reg or two medium dgs and a top... this way we'll have some teams that won't ever be played with either the restrictions as they stand now or a ffa selection.
McShane and Cowbuttzex have already stated their support for more variety so you can just count their votes right now for this system.
I am ok for thunder's propose. We could even restrict more to a level that teams are forced to play a certain mirror match combo.l 1 tb 1 reg 1 qot for example.
I feel sarcasm in the first paragraph thunder, i hope you don't think that "top notch players" are dying to play only tier 1 dgs.
I'd like nothing more than to play tb all the live long day.
We don't have to go with no restrictions on the 3rd you know... we busy voting n shite.
Well.. maybe a leetle bit of the ol sarcasm, but not a dickish amount I hope... and I definitely wasn't talking about you Orcun, I hear your Reg playing is scary.
I vote no on FFA selections on the third game. If players want to play with their uberpowerful all tier 1 dg combos, then they can agree to do so when playing in matches with other players who want to play with their uberpowerful all tier 1 dg combos.
oi - we are getting more and more complex when simple is much faster to organize.
Ok - so the options are
1. 3 games played - using only the tourney rules and dg selection
2. 3 games played - game 1 and 2 using tourney rules, game 3 pick any dg you want
3. 3 games played - game 1 and 2 using tourney rules, game 3 both teams must agree as to whether or not to do pick any dg or to keep the rules. If no consensus is reached, then game 3 will be done by tourney rules.
I'm setting the point system in stone though. 1 point for a win. 0 points for a loss.
I was just being touchy thunder:) I understand what you mean.
i think one more thing that we should discuss is when and how the games are gonna take place.Should everyone joining the tourney have lagwars vent ready to make it easier to arrange games?
Also lets say X team lost 9 games in a row and they go "**** it, we don't wanna play more of this ****" that would kinda mess up the whole point system. Would we delete all the points played against that team and simply eliminate that team like they never existed?
Another problem is some teams up there active players and would be easy to get a hold of, some might not be. Is there any way to prevent searching for opponents for day?
If it's gonna be free for teams to play their games whenever they want to in any order, should there be a time limit for each team to play at least 1 of their matches each week? So let's say X team played a game today and before the next week same day, they should arrange 1 more match or they get a punishment of some sort.
This can also be sorted out by arranging a set timetable for games beforehand after a discussion to find out what would be convenient for players in general. Let's say X and Z team has to play this week, they agree on a time and if one team dodges they get 3 losses.
So i think we need a fixture list(not sure if this is the right word, just looked it up from dictionary)
WAHHH! The flip side of your argument is; if you want to just do a no rook, oak, ub, ereb tournament why don't you say so instead of unleashing your fury on anyone who has learned more then one character and not just specialized in queen or tb? I will agree with whatever you propose, pacov please count thunders vote as 2 because he has my full support.
well we spent an hour and a half trying to get a game, and still havent played one!
Are you playing with Zen? I finished a game like an hour ago then thought everyone got off for the night.
Edit-Well of course I tried to come along and help out but you crashed!
No zen is talking in vent but wont play
Who the hell is defender
Some German guy who wanted to play with us, Nom knows him, Celmare I think he called him.
I don't want to sound smart, but last tournament everybody was worried about the queen beast combo, which did not even make it to the final. So hypothesizes are worthless, our system is balanced very well I think.
Imo, a forum dedicated to the tourney could be done. It's quick and easy to do.
There could be :
I tried it few years ago for a tournament on Halo PC, and it worked pretty well. Having a small forum dedicated to an event makes organization easier for admins, people are more involved, things go faster, etc.
Just my 2 cents.
By the way again, having a cash prize is not necessary to get subscribtions. People play Demigod because they like it, not to earn money. Dont be afraid of organizing others tournament even if there is no cash prize, people will still love it.
Actually... I was thinking more of this scenario:
Team A: Hey, you guys wanna just play with whatever demigods you want for all our games?
Team B: Sounds good... kinda bored with using Rook/Reg/Oak over and over.
I'm for either. After all I think only a few tier 1 demigod games would be very interesting to watch given the different skill levels of players in this game.
Nah - we should have a standard - period. That way we're all judged by the same scale for the most part. Once you go down that road, people can throw out whatever rules they don't want. Note to self - don't think we made much progress on the rules yesterday...
Vote: My vote is Tourney rules for all 3 games of the match, primarily because we took the time to agree on a decent system.
Rules
Proposed Tourney Organization Rule: If a team drops out [Team A] and doesn't complete all of their matches, any points earned by beating Team A will be stripped from all teams that played and won against Team A. Since losing doesn't have impact your total points that won't pose an issue. (I can't think of a viable and fair way to handle this issue other than the above) - Thanks Orcun for noticing this.
Please, if you decide to drop out of the tournament then at least have the courtesy to inform everyone of the decision.
Proposed Tourney Organization Rule: Teams can play each other at anytime. We should split all of the teams into 2+ groups with the goal being that you play all of the teams in your group first. We can set a time limit for each grouping to complete all of their games. Once complete we will merge the groups to finish the tourney. Time frame and final organization can be set after registration closes.
Final Tourney Organization Rule: Everyone plays each other for a total of 3 games. Recommended to close voting. Each game is 1 point. If a team loses the first two games and decides not to play the 3rd game then it is considered a forfeit.
Custom Sub-Forum
Pacov, in regards to Darz comment, do you think Stardock will set up a sub-forum for us for the tourney? If not, we can use my clans website where i have complete control over the forums (you would too pacov)
Darz, A cash prize, while not necessary, certainly helps to draw the players back to the game. I've already seen a bunch of old schoolers showing back up (Jona and kisersosa for example). Plus with the current player count we're looking at close to 12 teams which is awesome!
Current Vote Tallies:
High Tower Vote:
Votes for high towers: Total votes: 9
Votes for normal towers: Total Votes 13
Let's close the voting on this at the end of the day. It's a close vote, please add yours if you haven't done so.
3 games Tourney Rules for demi choice versus 2 games tourney rules + 1 game FFA
Votes for 3 games of tourney rules
Votes for 1 game FFA
Please vote on this topic, let's close the voting at the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday)
Official Meeting Place - Lagwars Ventrillo
Oxygen.Typefrag.com port 50216
Pacov - can you set some sub-channels for the tournament, password protected perhaps the password should be: DG
It would be easiest to schedule games in the vent channel (and in the forums as well) Someone on each team should have a mic. and could jump in the vent to get the game going. It wouldn't be required to play in the vent of course.
"3 games Tourney Rules for demi choice versus 2 games tourney rules + 1 game FFA"
I vote 1 game FFA.
You can use http://www.freeforums.org/ which let you create a forum very quickly and for free, too.
(for example it took me 2 minutes to set this up : http://thisisatest2.freeforums.org/)
Of course, I didnt say it was a bad thing ^^, just emphazising the fact that cash prize is not a crucial point and that you guys could still organize (in the future) a competition without any money involvement.
Orcun, you've been added to the tally, thanks!
Thanks Darz, that's a great solution should we not be able to get a temporary sub forum here!! (i would prefer it in the DG forums for simplicity)
Darz, can you vote please?
