The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php

I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
Im in, cant pay.
vote - > High towers
I was thinking we See -UB mana Side + Oak or Le + Reg (reg is nice sniping on fleeing DGs with spit because UB can risk chasing past a tower to get more spit on for a guaranteed kill, or you are not contesting your lane at all)
-Oak Mana side + Le + Reg (For maximum gank + portal abuse, and reg came along too to get assists and buy cit upgrades)
rook + oak is strong, but the gank potential is not there... and you really need to make sure you are available to TP in on rook when all 3 rush him. I don't see this being popular more then once, because it really is a technical game where you methodically grind your opponents down, and the players doing it will get bored if that is all they play.
That's not to say we might not see a UB/Sedna/Occ combo when a strong team plays a weak team, but when a tier 1 team plays a tier 1 team... be honest, what is the DG choice going to be? Probably one of the 2 I mentioned, because that is the only way to get kills against other pros.
Cool, Iz_. Adding you.
FYI - we currently have a total of 7 three man teams created.
There are currently a total of 14 players that have registered by not formed teams. Make some teams fellas!
2 games with demigod restrictions
1 without
3 games total. sounds good to me.
I've been waiting for anyone else to mention it instead of just stating the obvious, but I'm for unrestricted choices on the 3rd game as well. Since no one's answering it's probably easier to say who disagrees with being able to chose whatever DGs you want for the 3rd game?
I would wager a lot of money you will not just see oak / beast / reg in every high lvl match.
Also, if you play 3 games no matter what, what if someone goes 3-0 then?
To be clear, when it is "unrestricted" this means you can have 3x Sedna?
1) Please tell me what combo will win 2/3 games besides the 3 I mentioned?
2) 3 points to winner, 0 points to loser
4nana please don't quote me out of context. I said
overall i'm just throwing ideas out there, because i understood jongalt's thread like this as first. I mean if you can get an extra point for free and want to risk it playing all non-tier 1 demigods, we might see some crazy combos.
I am also a fan of simplicity. So I do not care how the point system really looks as long it is fair.
Soccermom's or pacov's firetb will definitely be used in high level games. Whatever I choose will be on a whim.
I would like to see a 3rd game like that. That means i have to practice all them tier 1 demis again
Bah, it would be more manly to play an all random or random assassin game as the final show down.
So posting our team finally
1. Iz_
2. Darz4
3. Darkliath
I also for high towers, but whatever
that's so retarded, only a cow can come up with this!
qot / occ / oak
qot / occ / rook
qot / occ / beast
tb / oak / sedna
tb / oak / occ
tb / rook / occ
tb / beast / sed
All of those teams have potential to win 2/3 games against the 3 you mentioned. I'm sure there are more, but I figured 7 was more than enough to prove a point so I stopped there.
how? when... you're already dead and bankrupt
QoT + Occulus+ XXX is a no-go. Mid game could be problematic, Occulus not quite in full swing and Queen starting to leave her prime. Once units come out, this team can certainly do well because of their phenomenal creep control. However, once portal wars start, they will be highly disadvantaged, having only 1 interupt (and, unless XXX is Oak, that interupt will be a cooldown of 12 seconds or more).
If your XXX is UB, sure, UB/QoT is very powerful (while QoT/Occ is weird but not unviable. Just. Very weird and lacking interupts). However, if you're playing against another UB, if their UB stays mana-side then he will level and curbstomp you. If your XXX is Rook, Queen can cower behind Rook and so she stays useful for much longer. If your XXX is Oak, you have the benefit of triple monk stacking. QoT + Occulus is rather expensive. Occulus is expensive as fuck, and, though QoT can certainly rely on her strong early game to carry her thru and allow her to purchase currency no problem, being 1800 gold behind for her is really going to hurt around level 10 or so. UB and Rook are poor candidates, choosing Oak makes his "weak stage" last longer.
Addressing other QoT combos,
QoT + Sedna + XXX is a no-go, not enough damage.
QoT + TB + XXX is a no-go, no tank. Fire TB might be able to play the role of a tank well enough but...
Great - glad to see you guys formed up. Another fun team to play against. I'll get you added to the op.
Nope. Poopy.
OK - trying to stay focused and get another question answered.
Does anyone oppose our changing the format to a total of 3 games per team? So, it won't be the best 2 out of 3. You will always play each team 3 times. Game's one and 2 will have the restrictions for DG selection in place that we've discussed (see OP). Game 3 will be unrestricted (just no double). In addition, the winning team from each GAME will receive 1 point. The losing team will receive nothing. The winner of the tourney will be the team with the most points. I personally think this is the way we should handle this. Unless there is quite a bit of opposition, I say we roll with this plan. Objections?
As it seems like quite a few more people chimed in regarding high towers, I'm going to do a quick recount.
Votes for high towers
Votes for normal towers
The current count is 6 to 8. Please vote asap.
Says frogboy - King of Stardock in our tourney prize money thread. So, it sounds like we might get a little sponsorship. Yay! I'll follow up with him.
oh - and jona__ chimed in and it sounds like he'll be participating in the tourney. Adding him to the list.
Ya it lacks interrupts, but your 3rd still has an interrupt. Also, I disagree that qot leaves her prime. She hits her prime @ 10 with gs IV and mulch II. At 15 she hits another major bump and gains mulch III and goddess.
As for qot vs ub on mana flag, I also disagree that UB will outlvl and curbstomp qot. I've outlvl'd ub's on mana flag and maintained control through the early game. And unless they're bots, I've maintained control even after lvl 10. I don't play the "here let me just shield you and stay in the background doing little else" build, which seems to be what you're describing with hiding behind a rook.
I vote no.
Btw pacov I'm also in favor of high towers, not only because of minion oaks ^^
Not what I was saying. Assuming you buddy-up, your options are Occulus or UB. If you buddy with UB, then if the other UB stays on mana side, he'll level up and then curbstomp. Occulus/Queen is just a weird combination. It would certainly thrash certain matchups but I dunno how it would do against others.
The only thing I'm trying to get across is that Queen has poor synergy with the three other T2 possbilities (Occulus being the best, combat-wise but lacking an interrupt).
i'll show you different^^ keep talking about sedna, not my queen! *troll*
Anyway, no to high towers, yes to 3 games, 3rd game normal sure why not
hmm maybe I can get ninki to take a break from school and teseer a break from eq and me a break from lotro
