The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
Setting the towers to high, while fun, changes the balance of the game. It also extends the length of games so unless the majoirty of people really want high towers i wouldn't want them to be required.
Hey Zen, my original suggestion was you could only pick one (UB or Rook) and pick one (Oak or LE)
Zen, my system didn't allow UB/Rook/Sedna nor UB/Rook/QoT : 1+1+2= 4 < 5 (meeeeeeeeec). Please read more carefully.
CowZex, your just suggested system is exactly the same as mine but with an inversed points system (Max points rule instead of min points rule). I still vouch for my system (or cow's recent one if you prefer a max points rule) as it's easy and simple yet it doesn't allow any of the (imho) OP combinations:
No Rook/UB/QoT, no OAK/LE/QoT, no three T1 DGs in same team, no two T1 DGs with a T2 DG (Sed, QoT, Oc, TB) in same team, etc...
Also it doesn't allow 3 generals teams with LE and OAK (strongest minions DGs) in same team, but if you're concerned about that we could add the "no 3 generals in a team" rule.
P.S: All this stems out from first tournament Hedgie's system, so credit should go to him actually
and maybe make da = to zero? any team can have a da on their team, so ub rook da would be possible?
I understood your system as it has to be below 5 not hit exactly 5. I still think it's to simple though
I think we can get carried away with trying to balance it exactly completely fairly. So you ban oak/le/ub, because everyone would play that. Then you ban rook/ub/oak if the first isn't allowed, then everyone plays that. And so on...
If you created a ranking of what the community agrees were the best combos in order, every time you ban one, the next one down becomes the "obvious" choice, until every match is da/reg/tb.
I think beyond Orcun's list, we are just heading down a slippery slope.
also, whoever balanced the last tournament's demigod selection did an excellent job there. Is it possible to make some sort of chart to illustrate the combinations easier for a 3on3?
I think we'll put a rule in place regarding stomping the citadel with spirits. I'm not personally opposed to high towers, but I think there will be some resistance; however, its something we can discuss and see what folks think.
I'm a fan that idea, but not sure if others will buy in.
Let's focus as much discussion right now on the dg selection limitations so hopefully we can bottom that out today or tomorrow. Then we can come back to other topics.
I do wonder if it might be easier to simply ban specific team combos, but I'm up for whatever.
And to help, EVEN IF IT MAKES POSTS SIZABLE, please copy whatever system you are proposing or backing in any post and then ellaborate - that should cut down on some confusion, I think.
i still support orcun's list, but am cutting it down by 1 point and making da for free. And I think if we figure somehow out what to do with le and oak, we will have a much greater variety of comobs, which we saw in the last tournament because if we let le and oak play together , the third player has to be either da or reg !
It had to be 5 or more. But let's inverse it and put it zex's way:
1. DA, Reg.
2. Sedna, QoT, Oculus, TB.
3. Rook, UB, Oak, L. Erebus.
Max 7 points.
Even if it looks too simple i think the end result will be pretty much the same as with your other system, and it will help making DG selection a little easier in the tourney games. But let's hear the community.
I think that is the exact same result I was going for, now that I understand your point system ^^
I think this will be my vote for the demigod selection. It is much more simple than the previous incarnations even though I like the 3 list proposed by nom, me and orcun.
why would you retype it all caps lol anyway yeah it seems to be the simplest form of all concerns and thoughts in this thread. I vote for this list too unless someone finds something I didn't see.
Looks good to me too, lock it in!
I quoted my original post of it, which was in all caps.
I vote yes on this.
Another vote for Zex/ Nom's list.
Make it two votes, I'll speak for Chiefy.
KISS.
I definitely see a good range of possibilities in there w/out any 1 being op. gogo yes to the above.
but which list from cow/nom?
There's this:
MAX 7 POINTS
are da and reg 0 points here?
and this:
Max 7 Points
edit - I back the second option.
you misquoted pacov. both lists are the same.
(this is the line you missed: Quoting OMG_ZEX, reply 2731 DA REG)
OK
So here is the current proposal for team selection:
2 Points - Oculus, QoT, Senda, TB
3 Points - Erb, Oak, Rook, UB
No duplicates allowed and you can have a maximum of 7 points per 3 man team.
People currently in favor of this:
Anyone have any major concerns about this? I think we might very well have our list.
I, as well, vote yes to this list. Please add me to the people currently in favor.
THIS POLL CLOSES TONIGHT !
If you haven't voted on the tournament style yet please do so. As of now it appears that it will be a full round robin tournament [details to be discussed & perhaps voted on next].
(see my post on this page for tournament explanation)
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/396231/page/9/#2785840
Current people in favor of full round robin.
Jongalt
Pacov
Lord Orion
McShane
Baddaddy
Chiefy
Also, BIG THANKS to those who are hosting lobbies that are advertising the tournament!
added - we're going to lock down the demigod character rules tonight at midnight as well. Seems like enough folks are in support of the system we discussed.
I think we can move onto the next topic. Hopefully we can lock this down tonight as well.
High towers or normal towers?
I'm in favor of high towers, but I'm fairly certain I'm in the minority. Please reply here with your preference and I'll get a list going on that as well.
Hi all
cup is nice idea) want to play too.
cool - adding you to list.
Votes for high towers
Votes for normal towers
People that can't make up their mind named nom
If you already chimed in on this and I missed it, please chime in again with your vote.
I vote no to high towers. I know everybody plays that now but it seems like it's only because there's so few people left playing that everyone wants games to last longer.
