The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
If Stardock made an official tournament and offered a free copy of demigod to each player of winning team to give to people they know, maybe that could be kindling enough to bring the tiny spark of life in the game to a little light...and then one day a community could be reborn.
Or perhaps offer a trial subscription for the FULL version say a 1 month trial for $3 or something pocket change enough to entice..... Then you could say "rent to buy" - pay 1 month at a time until you've paid for 12 months and you unlock the full version without the need for anymore payments.
I think a little creativity in the marketing department would at least give some hope to this product. If you only sell a person 1 month you'll at least get $3 where they most likely would never have even bothered otherwise and paid $0.
Demigod is addictive - get people playing for a month and they'll want to come back for a little more. Like a drug addiction - they won't want a kilo of coke right away, but the more little hits they get over time the more they want, and eventually their nose falls off and they don't care because it's all they want.
@pacov
Orcun and Cow's suggestion are identical despite the position of Regulus. Nomilarac's suggestion looks way too simple, where a team forming UB, Rook, and sedna is possble sigh. I'll go more with Orcun's suggestion than with cow's. DA will never hit 15, there is a gap from 14 to 16 cow! and that character is just terrible in comparison to Regulus.
oh man you're such a dead shane Going from your proposal you'll be playing oak or ereb, who "should never die" cause if you're a rook you sometimes have to die to kill the entire enemy team (: and in 3s it's always harder to not die
schade, sieht so aus als werde ich der einzige deutsche sein der unser land representiert
id like to play, and im going to win
I'd throw my hat in but the time difference (and ping!!) from Australia may be a problem for some EU/RUS. I would happily donate $10 for the pot.
Yea we're looking for someone, would be nice if we could get a good sedna, or other support dg, maybe rook.
cool - will add u doggu.
Quick suggestion - he's only a 40% player but with a little (literally a little) coaching will hit tier 1: if you need a player for your team and want a strong candidate - hit up darkliath.
edit - I'd also recommend ruisrpg - he's a standout player as well, but is tier 2 to tier 1.5. He speaks enough eng to understand what is going on and is fairly versatile in dg selection. He could join a vent server and follow a team that picks him up for ganks, etc.
its official - there is no draft this tourney. Form your own teams. If you do not form your own teams, you will not be playing this tourney. The cut off date for forming teams and registering is 10/3/2010. If you need help, please say so here and we will try to get you paired up appropriately.
sadly - i am the demigod marketing department at this time. I'm not concerned about resurrecting this game. I just want those of us who still enjoy playing to enjoy our time here. We will have a small community until people no longer decide to play. And I think the game has 4-6 months left in it for me at least. Longer if you fellas stick around and still enjoy the game.
edit:
I'm dropping nom's dg selection option from the list based on zen's input. Here is what we are currently talking about for dg selection. Let's finalize this asap.
Orcuns suggestion:
1-DA.
2-Reg.
3-Qot,TB.
4-Sedna,Occulus.
5-Oak,Le.
6-Rook,Ub.
And the total amount of point that can be used to make the team is 13.
Cowbutts Suggestion
1-DA Reg.
And the total amount of point that can be used to make the team is 13
... and my quick feedback... wouldn't the most likely team be oak/erb /qot based on these numbers? I can't see my team doing anything but this to be competitive in high level games. I personally think this a little dumb. If an oak and an erb can be on the same team, then they should have to take a reg or da imo (and even that is strong).
If we come up with anything that indicates you will ALWAYS be that team as its the smartest move, I think we have chosen a poor system. Start with a game of all tier1 players in mind. Is there a setup where its questionable where my team might choose some dgs and the other team pick different? If all the same, then I say we have problem. My 2 cents.
Yes.. oak / erb / qot is easily the strongest team of the mix. Honestly I would put qot as 4 or 5 in that list. Honestly, a well played qot is much more powerful than a well played sedna. She lacks interrupts, but makes that up with strong staying power, strong aoe, impressive tower dmg, and the best survivability of any dg. Although, I wouldn't put her as 5 as no one would pick her then over oak or ere. The only issue is @ 4, oak / qot / occ is really strong.
Also, the only difference I see between Orcun / Cow suggestions are da / reg and the only setup orcun's takes out is rook / ub / reg, which won't happen anyway.
That's a nice initiative
I'm participating, but can't add cash :/
Cool, Darz4. I'm adding you to the list.
yeah - but how do we fix I wonder...
wait, so if you decide to suicide into the enemy towers then that doesn't count?
FYI $10 of the $20 that McShane will be giving to the tourney pot will go to the actual person who scores the 2 kills on McShane!
lmao !
I'll play in a tourney if you are passing out free Kilo's I don't particularly care for the stuff but i know some strippers that do lmao.
Demigod is a game that is dying out unfortunately. They would probably be best offering a few copies of elemental, but since it's buggy as hell it will most likely cause frustration lol.
GG last night Lukas, glad to see you signing up for the tourney!
I'll leave it to those with more experience with all the DGs to hash it out, but what I am seeing in any format is that the most powerful and obvious combos are all-general combos, whether it is Oak/LE/ QoT or Oak/Qot/Occ. Maybe some other rule (not to complicate things further) of 1 general, 1 assassin, 1 whatever, per team? The more rules, the more annoying it usually is, but it might be more fun in the long run.
Nope, work just came in! The Hoff is joining the tourney ! He'll be bringing his own Brand New Demigod! Like Sedna/occ/qot he will be riding Kitt, with a microphone in 1 hand and a bottle of booze with the other.
The abilities will be:
1. Supreme drunkeness - when hit with his bottle your demigod will no longer be able to walk in straight lines for 2 minutes.
2. The Screach - It's like the opposite of silence
3. Turbo Boost - similar to oculus' jump but deals no damage
4. Molest - only works against QoT, Sedna and regulus
is he signing up? Don't think I read that in his post. Happy to add him if he clarifies.
in regards to lukas, i thought he was lol. Hopefully he will.
Anyways, we could make the rule that you have to have at least 1 assassin and 1 general on your team (this would prevent oak/ereb/qot, oak/occ/qot rook/ub/reg, rook/ub/DA )
We could also move QoT to be 4 points instead of 3.
3-TB.
4-Sedna,Occulus,Qot
Ok - I think jon's idea might be getting us a little closer. So... what do you fellas think the strongest team would be in this setup? Still 13 point total.
anything sound op or that would be commonly used?
I think more viable set ups can be formed out of that list other than (qot,le,oak), such as: (Ub,oak,Reg), (Rook, qot,Tb) (Tb,Oak,Le),(Sedna,Occulus,Le),(Rook,Qot,Occ),(UB,Le,REG),(Sedna,Oak,Tb),(Ub,Tb,Occ)
For Example:I personally wouldn't want to play against rook, occ, qot with the team of qot, le and oak. I don't think they would have enough damage power to stop Qot,rook, occ push. Or wouldn't be hard to play that combo against ub,occ,tb?
1 DA REG
2 TB SED OC QOT
3 OAK EREBUS ROOK UB
MAX 7 POINTS
That would allow
Oak, Erebus, Reg
Rook, UB Reg
Rook, Occ, QoT
etc.
Hrmm, i have an idea. Lets try to think of the combinations that we are trying to avoid and work back from there. If we can't come up with a point system in regards to the OP combos we just list them out.
What OP combos do you guys not want to have?
Here are a couple of suggestions
Rook/UB/QoT
Oak/LE/QoT
I think there are 3 combinations that are OP. Other than that i think it is more or less fair . Those 3:
Rook/Le/Ub
Rook/Oak/Ub
Oak/Le/Ub
Also I think 1 round free picks, one round limited choices would be a good way to play. I feel like it would create more variety. What do you guys think?
I didnt read all the pages, but what about minion oaks finishing the game without actually playing ? Setting towers to high would fix that issue.
wouldn't a cap of 12 fix that issue of oak le queen? I haven't gone through all possibilities yet.
possible teams if total count would be 12
rook, oak/le, darook, sed/occ, darook, sed/occ, regrook, qot, tbrook, qot, regrook, qot, darook, tb, regrook, tb, daUB, oak/le, daUB, Sed/occ, daUB, Sed/occ, regUB, qot, tbUB, qot, regUB, qot, daUB, tb, regUB, tb, daoak, le, regoak, le, daoak, sed/occ, qot/tboak, sed/occ, regoak, sed/occ, dale, sed/occ, qot/tble, sed/occ, regle, sed/occ, dasedna, occ, qot/tbsedna, occ, regsedna, occ, daand anything below should not be of major concern of overpowerdness. I see a lot of different combos that could be effective. I just don't think you can allow ub and rook on one team. oak and le are bastards but stoppable with just a reg or da on their team. but maybe you guys can take those guys apart as well as a rule no oak le on one team.
