The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
I'm game for it... but even though my internet is better at work now, it still is unplayable at my GF's house.
I'm only up for it if there is some sort of round robin format. The whole waiting forever for people to advance to play us while I had great internet and then all of a sudden "HURRY UP AND PLAY THESE GUYS RIGHT NOW OR YOU'LL BE DISQUALIFIED GOD DAMN IT!!!" as soon as I went back to having poor internet was a rather frustrating experience I'd rather not repeat.
Right there with ya, I was kinda happy I was DQed early, lol.
Thank you shingles!
You were disqualified? I don't remember anyone of importance being DQed.
Well, the losses DQed me
Goddammit that means I would have to practice DG again.....
nah - just lose
Also, if there were only a few of us, maybe we go to the round robin style of tourney. Everyone buys in for X dollars and the person with the highest point total wins. Might be a fun way to get a bunch of us back in, and it rotates the top players around teams. Even if there were only 10 of us, we could probably knock out the games in less than 30 days and would have a $100 cash prize. I'd be up for that, but I'm frankly not sure how we'd do the round robin deal (I'd have to read up).
I believe he means "Round Robin Teams". That is, if there were 5 2-man teams, each team would play each other team for best-out-of-3.
Winning a game = 3 points. Losing a game = 1 point. Each team plays against each other team, team with the most points at the end wins.
So:
2-game sweep: Winning team gets +6 points, Losing team gets +2
3-games, 2 W, 1 L: Winning team gets +7 points, losing team gets +5
So, "better" games (series that last 3 full rounds) make it a smaller "lead", whereas sweeps contribute lots of "lead". If there is a particularily weak team in the round robin, everyone "sweeps" them so it's like they didn't even exist. However, if you have 1 weak team, 3 "good" teams, and 2 "pro" teams, the pros might sweep the goods+weak. The goods sweep the weak, and go 2-3 among eachother, but are swept by the pros. The pros sweep the good teams but then the game comes down to who wins 2 out of 3 between them.
The advantage in this system is that you don't have to schedule a game and meet deadlines. You can just "okay guys, I can play XX time, who else can?" then whoever can gets on and plays. You aren't dependent on a ladder since you have to play everyone anyway.
The advantages of "stalling" could be fixed by posting the Pantheon link and not uploading replays immediately (only for review in case of a drop, etc).
Exactly what I meant, thanks Hedgie.
Its better for scheduling, and everyone gets to play against everyone which is better than getting knocked out in the first round cause you were matched up against the eventual winners.
McShane, can you get Orcun to unretire? I'd like another chance to play you guys if Hedgie is up for it.
Another tournament could be fun. If there are lot of ppl just do the same thing as last time. 2 men party, some dg combo can be take and/or make new combo but not too strongh, like oak+ub. Everyone will take that one
People should have the possibility to take the combo list, random ass or random general for both team. I mean if light team go random assassin, the dark team should do the same. I know the result could fuck up the game but will be interesting (anyway its just a suggestion ).
Actually, my craziest idea (and I have no idea how to pull it off), would be something that I'd think would be a bit more interesting. We'd have a pool of X number of people (whoever is in for the tourney). From that pool, we'd create teams. And play. The overall goal would be to rotate individual players from team to team. So, if there were 6 of us, we'd mix up those folks as many times as is possible to come up with every possible team combination. We'd use a point system like hedgie described and the individual with the highest score would take the prize. That way, I'd think the winner would be the best overall player instead of showing us who the best team was. Anyway, I think there would be much more fun bragging rights to be the best player than the best team. I'm actually thinking 3v3 for the format with this, though.
Anyway, even if we didn't do something like that (which would be a pain, but I think fun), I think we'd certainly go with the round robin approach so that everyone plays everyone. There's plenty of bragging rights there too.
As unlikely as this tourney sounds, I'd still probably participate, as long as it's 3v3 Cat (honestly, not willing to adjust myself to 2v2s at this point), and there's some easy DG selection rules, not willing to play against UB/Oak/LE/Rook over and over again.
Something like this: 1- UB, LE, Oak, Rook. 2- Occ, Sedna, TB. 3- Reg, DA, QoT (not quite sure about Rook and Qot). Anything >=5 points is good, or any kind of all random (except all random general).
Round Robin sounds good, though that individual rotating scheme looks complicated and hard to pull off, hurts my brain just to think of it. It also sounds bad for the "lesser" players, i mean, noone would win when Thundercles is in their team, for example .
A small, <10 teams Round Robin torney sounds good, and suits well the number of us still playing DG. Looking forward to how this turns out. From the number of us players still stalking this forum, anything over five 3-man teams seems highly unlikely.
if you streamed this I would love to watch.
I would play this time in the tourney.
but would you play
haven't played in years
it would not be a pretty sight.
just wanna see the pros doing their thing
fair enough - i doubt the matches will be streamed tho.. i mean, we'd do it... but demigod honestly doesn't need another excuse to crash... which is why we don't stream.
Replays will be made for all games tho
where i get my participation in match?if is here i´m in just say when start plz
and thk ,for you give live at demigod.
from portugal a hugh!!!!!
Here are some things we need to confirm - perhaps without even deciding on the format:
I think we all agree we'd like for there to be some sort of prize. I'd play for for, but I'd prefer it if there was something on the line. I'd personally pay $10 to enter the tournament and think that's a good number.
Here's who currently said yes, they will play.
I only listed folks that clearly indicated that they would play. If you aren't listed, let me know that you would play AND if you would pay an entry fee of $10 or not. If you are listed, please let me know if you would be willing to pay an entry fee.
i'm good for 10
After the lag fest game last night I would actually feel bad playing in this tourney due to me actually lowering the enjoyment of the game that I was in. My connection is pretty MEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH atm. Its playable but really almost painful to deal with.
If I had to I would play but pay money? sigh I guess I could afford 10 bawks
Actually your connection wasn't really all that bad imo in the game we played yesterday... maybe I'm just used to meh
Anyway, I'll add you if you say you are in.
In? I think? but that connection is pretty terribad and it disconnects on occasion which blows.........
im so down i missed the last one
