Well I think the title speaks for itself...
I live in the UK and pre-ordered the game but haven't yet received it in the post. I've seen a couple of other posts on this issue and have sent an email to sales@stardock.com asking them to confirm the dispatch date but have had nothing beyond their automated response assigning me a ticket (3 days ago).
The fact that I also have an unrelated (Gal Civ 2) ticket that's been open for 2 and a half weeks without resolution means that I don't really have much faith in them responding to me soon, so I thought I'd post this question in the hope that someone out there can put my mind at rest.
On a related note - if anyone HAS received their copy in the UK, what courier company delivered it, or did it come in the "normal" Royal Mail post?
Thanks in advance for any responses,
Inscrutable
If the box was damaged, please contact sales@stardock.com about it and they may be able to help.
I would have to actually check my bill, but I believe it was actually more than that, and it wasn't first class shipping.
True, but lets say you went to HMV/Walmart/whatever, paid around $60 for your shopping, thinking it was on the expensive side. Then as you are working out the shop, you are charged $25 more to be able to walk outside the shop with your goods, you would be upset, as if you would know your shopping was infact $85 and not $60, you wouldn't have got it in the first place.
Then to make the situation worse, you discover that your shopping has mold and isn't fit for consumption... it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Sure, I accept full responsibility for going into the Walmart (in the example) and ending up buying that stuff thinking it was good quality, even if on the expensive side, it was one of the biggest mistakes I did. I just didn't expect to have to pay $25 to walk out the shop with my shopping or discover it wasn't the products I thought it was getting.
I got mine this morning, 21st September, or at least I got the customs charge slip. I actually consider a month standard fare for delivery from the States so I'm not too worried about that, and Stardock can't help the customs charge.
For those debating delivery times, the only times I have had international items delivered any faster is from US companies that specialise in international delivery. That was a special company I have used regularly with Amazon. Anywhere else I have ordered from in the States has taken 3 weeks to a month.
They're working on the game, so give them a chance on that. Brad Wardel has apologised for the state of the game and put the whole thing on his shoulders so perhaps give him a chance to make it right.
I know I sound like I'd give in to any crap, but I don't see the point in getting so worked up about a computer game that's not all that expensive if you consider that is the standard price for console games, and you're getting a special edition. You know the price when you order it, and you know it has to ship overseas. It's your choice.
I'll have my say about a game I don't think works as I expected, and I have, but I don't see the point getting all hair-pully.
Well I've got a customs slip
Not quite sure how they worked out request for nearly £25....
Limited Edition inc P&P call that £58
VAT (UK rate) at 17.5% on £58 £10.15
Then Royal Mails err generous 'handling' fee of £8... didn't see that last one coming...
Well guess I'll find out how did thier VAT calculation tomorrow... I'm thinking they worked didn't convert the $ into £ before working out 17.5%....
Personally I think the customs charge should be calculated on the basis of the value of the goods themselves, which is $20 (of the $69.95 for the LE box set, $49.95 for the digital download - in fact the SD purchase page specifically identifies the upgrade cost as being $20). In any case, whatever that is in GBP, it's less than the £18 threshold for customs tax so nothing should be payable.
Unfortunately, not being a member of HMRC staff, it's not my decision. Damn.
Just got the Customs charge of £15.84. Honestly since I already have the game, I can't believe whats in the box is worth £15.84 so I guess I just leave it.
I'm very tempted to do the same. As, even though I have the digital version, I've only played the one game, and haven't gone back to it. Gaming disappointment of the year.
Well I just got the dreaded note through the door. £15-odd to pay for the privilege of collecting a package I've already spent a lot of money on and waited a long time for. I can't decide whether or not to bother, either.
Oh, and guess what? I moved house shortly after placing the pre-order, so I emailed Stardock's sales department to tell them my new address and to specifically ask them to ship Elemental to the new address. Of course, the note I had from Royal Mail this morning had already been at my old address, two days ago. SHOCK!
Why can't any company ever get that kind of thing right?
well, still no news and the support ticket has gone all quiet.
