Elemental used to be fun. And no, I'm not talking about the game. I still find the game fun and enjoyable and look forward to it's future.
Unfortunately, I'm talking about the forums and this community. Recently they've just de-evolved into a community of hostility, second guessing, and whining. This community used to be fun, collaborative, enjoyable, and friendly.
We also used to trust Stardock, the staff, and Brad. Frankly, I still do. Stardock was one of the ONLY companies who'd give you almost daily updates on what they're doing and the direction of their development. Today Brad tells us he's going to look at tweaking things and adding more systems for engine, he also shares with us that his favorite TV show is Avatar.
First thing we do is get defensive, jump all over him, and TELL him what to do. Now we've probably lost the ability to read up on the Dev Logs, Journals, and to hear about what the developers are doing with Elemental. Great!
That's not fun guys and it's going to ruin Elemental for everyone. Nobody wants to work on a game that isn't supported or encouraged by the community and where they can't find enjoyment in making it. I know Stardock is a business but it's also a personal project for Brad and, believe it or not, Brad is a human being.
If we ruin this for Brad then Elemental is just that, ruined. It doesn't do us any good if you post that you hate him or don't trust him. And, honestly, posting your ridiculously complex re-designs where they'd have to rebuild the game from the ground up are also unhelpful, try modding and you'll see why. If you REALLY don't like Elemental right now then just take a break. Go away for a while...
You angry kids need to back off. It's getting old and isn't for for those of us who want to support the game and enjoy the community we once had.
Some of you really don't understand what it's like in real life. You don't understand what it's like to work in the real world. You jump and attack any sort of authority because, "Hey, this is the internet and I have free speech!". Unfortunately, this is just showing your poor character and lack of experience. If you REALLY want Stardock to feel your hurt then return the product and don't buy another one, that'll hurt them in the pocketbook which hurts more then posting an angry rant about design on these forums.
I'm asking for some restraint, some compassion, and some better judgment. Each and every action you take has ramifications and consequences. Think before you act. Consider what you are saying and how you are saying it. Lastly, a little respect goes a long way.
That's exactly why most of us are.
You also have the option not to read the crap other people write. If you don't like it, just don't read it. If people didn't care they would ignore the post. So what am I to believe? You don't care? All evidence points to the contrary.
Post like this are hypocritical.
And yes I do care about your post, because obviously I took the time to respond.
Don't get me wrong I agree with your opinion completely. NOT TRYING TO START A FAME WAR!!!!
That's not true. I expressed dissatisfaction with the release and voiced an opinion. You never attacked me. We got into it because of your constant attacks on others and because you jumped from thread to thread attacking anyone being critical. More or less the same type of thing that you say you're tired of seeing. What's the difference between you attacking someone for being critical and someone being critical or having a complaint? Like somebody else said, it's a vicious circle. Complaining about the complainer.
Here's an idea. If you get tired of reading the complaints then stop reading. Nobody forces you to read. And nobody forces you to jump from thread to thread attacking people who are critical. It doesn't matter whether I was flogging on the release or not. It's not up to you to handle things. You're just another customer.
We'd prefer if people stopped attacking things period (except in the game).
So what? I can't read about the game if its a bunch of whining etc...I'm another costumer who doesn't care for the 50th post about it was rushed...blah blah blah. I don't jump from thread thread attacking people, thatsyour issue not mine, and I'm sure if I did the person being attacked should probablysay something for themselves, not you. You're just another customer;)
Well at least you could keep it isolated to 2 threads making it easier to monitor instead of having to go through all the "I love Brad" or "I hate Stardock" threads. Better to have 2 stickied controlled flame wars than to have it all over the forums like it is now.
That's right I am just another customer. But I'm not going around attacking people telling them to shut up just because I disagree with them. I'm not jumping from thread to thread looking for anybody being critical. Your reputation precedes you. I'm not trying to start a flamewar. Just the opposite. My point was that it's time for both sides to cool down and give Brad time to fix things. Apparently you think that only means anybody that you would call a hater because they dislike the game or those having a problem. It means YOU too.
That's been pretty much the point I've been trying to make. I wasn't happy with the release but what's done is done. Now, as you said, it's time to get away from all the drama and move on to fixing things. All the fanboy, hater crap has to go. Thus my suggestion for two stickied forums for people to praise or complain in. It's easily monitored and clears the forums.
One other thing. Is it possible in the magic revamp to have customized spells? Instead of researching spells you would research spell components and then make custom spells from those components. You could take unit customization to a lower level and do the same things with weapons too.
Ok, I think you need to calm down and not take things to a personal level. I have never told anyone to shutup, so get your facts straight. Get off your high horse.
In all honesty, I appologize for attacking hairrorist and suggesting he is a hypocrite.
Spend more time in the discussions on the modding forums my friend . We're still quite amicable over there
Here's the deal for those who are angry about the game:
1. If you pre-ordered, you were buying an unfinished version of the game, with the anticipation it will be completed sometime in the future. Unfortunately, that day wasn't August 24. Wish it was, but it wasn't. Still, it's the same deal, nothing has changed for those who pre-ordered or played in the beta. We continue to wait for the more "final" version of the game and we can use this time to discuss what might make it better. What we have now has plenty of strengths as it stands.
2. If you didn't pre-order, the PC Gamer warning could easily be found by checking this site practically on the day of release, and 1UP review was up pretty fast on Metacritic, and the GameSpot review should have sealed your decision. If $50 means a lot to you and you spent it without being very informed, well, live and learn. This is a cheap lesson on researching your purchases. And hey, guess what, if you don't like it you can return it for a 75% refund--if it isn't working on your machine you get 100%. I've bought plenty of games that were well-reviewed but sucked balls from places where there was 0% refund policy in either case, so Stardock is offering you a pretty cherry deal.
Either way, given Stardock's acknowledgment there are problems here and its committment to fixing them, I see no reason anybody has in either group to be very upset. Disappointed maybe, but also hopeful for a better future.
It seems to me one element people haven't commented on is how the forums have "changed." Did the change coincide with the release? I just started early last week, so I don't know about "before": was the Beta community less inflammatory? Are the majority of flames coming from people who joined after the pre-release?
I am calm. I'm not taking things to a personal level. I'm speaking the truth. Your reputation precedes you. Apparently you feel it's your mission to jump from thread to thread attacking people for being critical. Apparently you feel that calming down and moving on only applies to whoever you consider a hater and not to you. You never said shut up? What do you think it means when you go around attacking people for being critical? It's the same as saying shut up. What do you mean when you say "costumer who doesn't care for the 50th post about it was rushed...blah blah blah". That's the same as saying shut up. Do you also tire of the 50th post that praises the game with claims of being the greatest game ever? Like I said, I'm not trying to start a flamewar. Just the opposite. I'm advising that everybody calm down and give Brad time to get the game fixed. Now I'm going to take my own advice by not responding to you anymore. BTW I don't like horses.
Pretty much, but there are also the old school guys who feel betrayed I guess.
Could you clarify on attack? I hope nothing I have said was construed as an attack.
I'm looking forward to seeing the game evolve. I think that's part of the model that makes TF2 a classic game- though Elemental can't just copy the TF2 model, evolutions do make a game more fun.
I think the journals are necessary though- if only for the "no Brad no" on some mechanics. There are some mechanics in Elemental, which have been expounded on plenty here, that don't work period.
Attacking people again...geez, where are all these assaulted people...disagreeing with them, and saying to get over something is not attacking or telling them to shut up. This fixation you have with me and some childish theories of calling me a fanboy(which your going to extreme lengths to say without using that word) because I don't have the number of negative posts that put me in the same league as you. I have been critical as well, just not in the whining OMG EVERYTHING IS BROKEN way. Sorry you feel that way really...ok not really but oh well. (your reputation precedes you again, awesome)
For future reference, I'm always right.
Don't talk to my wife then cause she says she's always right. One of you would be wrong and I don't think it would be her.
Hater is such a stupid word.
Virtually everyone on this forum has bought the game and wants, and has faith in it being eventually fixed.
I pre-ordered a while back, and could still get my refund if I wanted to. But I have no intention of such.
Ill go and play other games and come back to this when its fixed. Meh.
The doesnt absolve stardock from getting the flaming it deserves though, just like I well tell my friends and family when they screwed up, and flame them accordingly.
Silence is for when you just dont care.
If you dont want to be flamed for releasing buggy unfinished games, then dont do it. Listen to your beta testers who are all crying in unison thatg its not ready instead of arrogantly telling them their opinion isnt worth anything and banning people who make valid criticisms.
As I said I support stardock and will continue to do so in the future. I have confidence in them to stand by their product and make it right, but I will still call a spade a spade. If any posts should be deleted it is the sanctimonious garbage in the OP.
My point was, is, and always will be that these forums should be for discussing the game. Not for grandstanding.
Did you know that they were unaware of most of the problems that we all experienced at release? The majority of the bugs are problems asociated with the new engine, which is freaking awesome mod-wise. The gameplay issues are the real main concern, but the beta testers, such as myself, were under the impression that these problems would be fixed by at latest 1.01. We were not crying out in unison. Many of us expressed conderns and were then reassured that the release would be much better than the version we were last given. If we had had the v0.99 they were playing, sure we would have cried out, "don't release this to anyone until it is fixed!" We simply did not have the necessary data to give them any advice. In my view, that was the primary problem that I am sure will be changed for the next expansion, which I get for free!
I've seen some games released in a worst states as described by the players, but not many.
Seriously though, you know the difference between a hater, a troll, or a legitimate issue/complaint, pretty much whether or not the responder agrees with what is said or not. The OP is completely one-sided as if the only people who are starting and continuing flame wars are unhappy customers as opposed to the raging fanboys who rate everything Stardock does as golden regardless of what they do. As mentioned before, there are two sides. The OP is on one of those and is tired of being faced with the other, aka encountering opinions that are not his own therefore the forums are not a friendly place. Heh, and then, to top it off, goes around claiming that everyone who doesn't like the game some how doesn't exist in the "real world". You should have stopped with your first paragraph, but since you didn't, it just sounds like yet another US vs THEM piece disguised as some sort of call to get back to the way things were. I am especially found of the you kids part, now does a person have to be actually younger than you OP or just disagree with you to be a "kid".
Some of us are just shocked at the poor quality of a recent purchase. Pretend you got a fancy new Italian sports car, the 2010 Ferrari 458 that has problems with engine heat shields that could result in fires and destroys your expensive car. Let us hope that you dont get upset. While this game does not cost as much as a 2010 Ferrari 458 and it is unlikely to cause a death - spme of us work for a living and live from paycheck to paycheck and depend on our money. We can not throw it away at every company that promises to invest our money to make a better game. Some of us have to chose which games we get, because our next one could be MONTHS away. So now imagine, I dont have enough money to buy another game for a month or two. Sure any game I buy is a risk. However, we see that Stardock, a company who was known for quality, produced a new flagship game that was suppose to be a new 4X fantasy type game like MoM. Then we get this pile...
The AI is harder on easy than on hard still? Ai spends too much when it reaches a negative? How many different random maps are there?
You can read my other posts on how we do not let ourselves get pushed around by other consumer products.. but when it comes to game companies it is okay to release shoddy work and we expect to take it? I hope you dont like going to a seafood place and ordering a $49.99 meal then they tell you that they are all out of food - it might be there in a week to a month from now. Here is a $10 pizza while you wait. Then there is the airline discussion. Want to fly to vegas and when you show up - the airplane wont be ready for another month... maybe. I hope you can get time off then from work and your hotel arrangements... "OH WELL."Bottom line: most of us expect Stardock to have learn from their previous titles and we expect each newer title to be better and better... or the same level of quality as previously. Now we get this?
Some might say, it is unfair to say we did not get our game. because we did get it. Did we? I dont see any multiplayer yet... and well... they should fix the bugs before they release multiplayer, IMHO.
