Has anyone here played Grotesque Tactics? If you did, what were your impressions? How well does the AI play?
It looks like an interesting SRPG, but I haven't been able to find really insightful reviews so far. Might end up buying it anyway, but if the AI doesn't offer a fair challenge, I may skip it.
Hmm, so no one seems to have played it yet. I did a bit more research and learned that the game stems from a German studio and is sort of a spin-off of an unreleased RPG (Grotesque). It was made and released to help generate funds for the development of the RPG. There have been some German reviews, which all sounded fairly positive.
I just bought the game at GamersGate (10% discount right now) and will give it a whirl. Will post my impressions in a few days. 635 MB is moderately small. (Ha, I remember my first 10 MB hard drive, and how immensely large it seemed ...)
I've never even heard of the game. Please post your thoughts once you've played a bit to let us know if it is something worth looking into.
Ive seen it but it looks a little too cute and cuddly for my tastes.
Be interested to hear what you think of it.
I only played about an hour, so there's not much to say yet. It's definitely a humourous game that parodies typical fantasy cliches in a bit of a slapstick fashion. I actually laughed a few times. Combat so far seems pretty straight forward: You move on the "world map" (accurate proportions, like in King's Bounty TL and AP) in real-time, and when you encounter an enemy, the game switches to turn-based mode. Unlike in KB or HoMM, you stay on the world map, so there is no zooming into a tactical combat screen. I'll post a review when I have played for a few more hours. The initial impression is good. The art seems a bit "odd": crisp for the most part, but watercolour-y in some places, which makes for a peculiar blend. I think that's the unique aspect of the style.
Interesting, sounds almost more like a Japanese RPG then a German RPG. I'd be interested in hearing more about it too.
It looks interesting, hard to tell what it's all about, like you said in your post Mivo, the screen shots look really good and others not so much.
Really interested to hear what you think about it overall.
Since it's listed as a parody, do let us know how that part of the game stands up as well.
