So, making your custom sovereign is all fine and dandy, but what about playing a sovereign, that ain't a human?
It's fairly simple really.
Beginning
We need to start by making a regular custom sovereign via the in game editor.
Spend your points, choose your traits, attributes, history, and advantages/disadvantages. DO NOT bother with Appearance, in fact untick as much as possible.
Once that is done we need to open up the custom sovereign file and make some adjustments.
You can find the file under C:\Users\OSUserName\Documents\My Games\Elemental\Units
Here's a sample file I'll include for reference.
For starters, I suggest you use the reference file as basis for your monster sovereign, I've removed several of the tags that was unnecessary.
For starters, you'll want to replace the <SelectedAbilityBonusOption>, <StartingSpellbook>, <LevelMilestone InternalName=""> data with the data from your custom sovereign file.
Now lets say you want to play a Darkling Sovereign.
Lets go find the basic monster data in C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Elemental\data\English\CoreMonsterUnitTypes
Jump down in the file to <UnitType InternalName="Darkling">
The bits we need to replace in the custom sovereign file are
<EyeTexture>gfx/eyes/male_brown_eye.png</EyeTexture>
Replace EyeTexture from the custom file with this string, and also edit the <Texture_Eyes> to match the eye texture png location.
replace the custom file information for <ModelPath>, <SkeletonPath> and <Texture_Skin> with the appropriate darkling data.
<ModelPath>gfx/hkb/Monsters/M_Darkling_Mesh_01.hkb</ModelPath> <SkeletonPath>Gfx\HKB\Units\K_Male_Skeleton_01.hkb</SkeletonPath> <Texture_Skin>Gfx\HKB\Monsters\M_Darkling_Texture_01.png</Texture_Skin>
Adjust the value for ModelScale to match that of the darkling (0.8)
Add the entry for <Color_Skin>40,45,50,55</Color_Skin> to the custom sovereign file.
Replace the existing data for AnimationPack with the darkling data, <AnimationPack>BanditAnimationPack</AnimationPack>
Replace the existing Medallions card with the darkling one, M_Darkling_Card.png
And that's all there really is to it. You may want to further adjust the <ModelScale>, <ClothMapScale>, <MaxScaleMainMap> and <MaxScaleTacticalMap> for certain monsters, so they don't appear too large in your game.

But what about the children?! Oh, the humanity...
Well, Stardock initially had Snarthi as a dragon mating with humans, this is no different!
Accept interspecies erotica! Cause you know you want to
Is there an octopus mesh somewhere?
No there's no tentac....octupus model that I know of.
And no Cthulhu model, either, I guess.
All hail to our most generous and merciful soveraaaAAAAAARGH!
Fhtagn!

He, it is starting to look like Dominions. That is not bad, not bad at all. Domnions III is a great game only hindered by a complex and odd interface, lack of balance, and poor graphics. Using the Elemental engine could solve at least one of those 3 issues
I cant figure that out - i looked for xml files with the dragon.
i wanted to make a dragon sovereign now thoug hinnitially i just wanted to make a -Orc- soverieng and his faction also to be orcs.though i wanted my sovereign to be a little bit bigger (but every time i try to fiddle with the sizes in the xml he begomes ultra huge and his legs/body/arms dont follow?! - whats a good way to make someone bigger ? like 30% bigger
For Dragons:
<ModelPath>gfx/hkb/Dragons/D_Dragon_Mesh_01.hkb</ModelPath> <SkeletonPath>gfx/hkb/Dragons/D_Dragon_Skeleton_01.hkb</SkeletonPath> <Texture_Skin>gfx/hkb/Dragons/D_Dragon_Texture_01.png</Texture_Skin>
or
<Texture_Skin>gfx/hkb/Dragons/D_Dragon_Texture_02.png</Texture_Skin>
Haven't messed with scale yet, so don't know how to fix that oddity.
love it - dragon looks awesome - though he cant use gear (which is fair considering i actually made him into a "dragon with better start stats in physicals"oh yeh...it looks...like the dragon is ...doing things to the mount if you get one for it - advise caution lol
ModelScale should adjust the whole model, up and down in size.
Also should be nothing preventing item use that I know of. But that may have changed since I messed with it.
hmm i tried model scale alone but the sovereign becomes huuuge - and only his clothes and head - his body arms and legs stay normal - missing gear/head.and love that i could alter the color of the dragon skin so i could make a gold dragon (kingdom) and a red dragon (empire) yay
Try increasing it by smaller amounts.
I find 0.3750 to be a good scale for dragon sovreigns, so try something like 1.0500 for the size.
Someone should try making the armors and weapons be usable in the XML for some of the more humanoid monsters like Drota and Darklings and see what happens. Would be cool to see if they could use the regular weapons and items.
Sweet! Insane, but sweet! Thanks for the heads up, I can't wait to have a spider Sov scuttling around the map!
O...this..is ...awesome
I made my dragon sovereign - he was strong (had cheated a bit given him 20 str - 20 con - 20 essence - and added morale penalty skill to him apart from my other - tracker adventurer.and i also had wife and kids! - THE SONS WHERE ALSO DRAGONS !! and they gained some! of his str/con/essense! -<aweeeesome! i was enjoying the game emensely and was even trading some of my daughters/grandchildre over - when suddenly my enemy also had dragon sovereigns ! - though in the third generation the str and con had fallen quite alot and so had the essence the sons where still dragons hah awesome it passed on
That
is
awesome!
Now think what would happen if a dragon sov married a dragon hero.
yes pure dragon species yay
Now all that is needed is dragon specific battle gear... ... and for the forum to have a dragon emoticon.
