So were supposed to atleast get one patch in septmeber that fixes magic and character creation.
But I say screw that, cant you all fix the end game slow down first and get a patch out ASAP, would rather have bugs squashed then content balanced
Wonder if we'll need to start new saves.
Whatever, I'm ready for a new map anyway.
Wonder if we'll need to start new saves. i think save games should work on 1.07
Yup. The problem as far as I can tell is that it renders *every* object fully, irrespective of whether the player can actually see it or not. Elemental seems to work the same way; it'll get rid of things like pedestrians if you're out far enough, but the basic elements are always rendered.
In fact, if you wanted to troll you could probably add a few thousand flagpoles scaled down to minimum, cover them all with a normal sized hut and watch as it sent FPS plummeting through the basement. Not that I'm trying to give anyone ideas or anything
patch tonight is good to hear. i don't think i'll really start to enjoy this game until thing like combat speed and 1dN are removed as game mechanics, though i don't expect that to happen tonight.
i'm amazed how bad the reiews have been even still. most of the problems only become apparent once the game is well underway; i still feel like i have lots of options when i start the game, which is important imho.
stardock have been fortunate that the big sites have held off on their reviews for a while i think. if it was me, i'd try and pretend the game had not been launched at all, then stage a big media relaunch in a couple of weeks with a huge patch once you have got the performance right and fixed some fundamentally flawed gameplay mechanics. give the patch a flashy sub title, make an actual trailer, prod the reviewers and generally pretend that THAT is the actual release date.
imho.
while i still find it hard to get into the game, i'm sort of glad because i never got onboard for the beta; now i feel like i can help with the game like i wanted. i don't feel cheated because i knew i was going to buy this eventually anyway, though i can't say the same for other people.
Oh, wait, crap. PAX work starts tomorrow. Well, at least I'll be able to play next week...
1.06 saves should be safe (with v1.07)....we have several old saves we're testing against and so far, so good! Plus it's mostly performance tweaks and such.
This will be the first time we'll miss PAX in the last 3 years. You working a booth or helping with the expo itself?
Hmm...I was hoping to sleep early tonight...looks like that's not going to happen.
Post the patch notes! Rabble! rabble rabble rabble
Unfortunatly, we've run into some issues and will have to post tomorrow (hopefully mid-day, if things go well the rest of tonight).
The big changes in 1.07 will be...- performance boost (Q/A seeing a 15-ish FPS boost in apples-to-apples save comparisons)- lots of memory fixes, including game-within-a-game and sound issues- tweaked calculation of unit group battle stats (shouldn't be as powerful)- grouped units save/load max HP info properly- no more stacking of items for heroes (a quick fix while we compile a proper to-do list for improving champions)- fix to the way roaming creatures level up to fix crazy-overpowered stats
Thanks for some notes
Thanks for the info. I like the order that things are being prioritized, too.
Out of curiosity then, what will happen to units that have stacked items in current save games? Are we sure it's going to be compatible, just to keep people from complaining again when they update a game in the middle of a game in progress, and it breaks something?
Not that *I* have any stacked items, of course. Boogie actually has my save game in progress, and can verify this
Thanks for the info!
Just to know, there are other problems with save/reload, mainly new shards spawning, sometimes on top of older improvement. Any chance that got fixed too? Simple curiosity, since you named the grouped HP glitch...
Again, thanks for the info and your work!
Way to go BoggieBac, you guys just fixed this because of alborrelli's bitterness. J/K
Congrats on concentrating on the obvious and getting it taken care of quickly. While I also thought you guys were pushing it, you are really trying to get it fixed up. I can't tell you the number of games I had that had "promise" and then pulled the plug. The turnaround time for these changes has to be murder on the programmers and QA. (Been there, so done that!)
So I appreciate you guys work. All that while slacker Brad takes time off and leaves you guys holding the bag
Excellent. That fixes a lot of the playability concerns I've had with the game. A couple of questions though:
Will this patch include a fix for shards not affecting spell power?
Will this patch include updated XML files that match what's in data.zip so that we can fix minor errors and typos that slip past you guys, and recompile data.zip without scrambling the game? Preferably with all the beta stuff stripped out so that we can tell when something was misnamed on accident rather than to remove it from the game (ex. Charm Monster, Ice Blast for Ice Lords, Drowning Strike for water elementals), but that'd just be a bonus.
Well, bummer on the delay. Definitely not playing until next week then. At least the changelist looks promising. If it works, that's most of the game-stopping issues out of the way.
I'm a second-year Enforcer. I saw your booth last year, though I wasn't stationed in the main expo hall then, and am sorry that you're not able to make PAX again this year.
Can we have quick details about the unit stack changes?
Quick, someone start the "when is 1.08 comming out" thread.
Seriously, can't wait to see what is in "7". I am SO hoping they will tweak and patch Elemental to juciy goodness before Civ5, then I could have a chance to get my friends hooked on this game first.
The memory / performance fixes will be greatly receieved. I am looking forward to getting back into the game so I can post some constructive ideas and needed that to do it.

saw kryos post - as long as HUGE issues remain - I can guarantee you that SD will keep pushing patches until they are sorted. They WILL NOT force us to wait for some mega patch that fixes problems. They understand that we want to play and enjoy their game. Shouldn't have to wait much longer. Fingers cross that tonights patch solves my problems and I can start nerding it up again in elemental. You solve the mega slowdown and I will sing your praises.
edit - saw boogie's post. Tomorrow then. Looking forward to it!
Also - thanks again boogie for posting the current patch notes - i get that things might change, but those of us having issues love knowing what might be fixed in the next release. Kuddos and get some rest!
If not, then at the least I hope you folks are rotating time off -- let a few people have some vacation, then a few others, so that you all get a break while maintaining progress.
Hopefully there are more AI related changes to 1.07. For as it stands there are so many issues with the AI that it makes playing SP games purely experimental. Things like infinite resources and Factions declare war on you (or other factions) without ever sending a single army for 100's of turns. That and the fact that it seems the AI doesn't even try to win the game. I mean it makes the whole thing very trivial, and borderline pointless. Sure I can play the game and ignore this, but I mean I guess I appreciate a challenge while playing. Rather then doing my thing, letting the AI do his. Then turn around and then slice through him like a hot knife through butter. I mean it would be like playing chess against an AI that it's main goal is to get it's pieces on the other side of the board. It will feel like you are playing, but once you start noticing that the AI has no real strategy how long could you play it for?
I'm fighting a whole new war now, it's the war of disappointment.
Although I know that in the long run things will be good, it doesn't change the fact that the current state of things kills a little part of me.
Still thanks for putting all this time in, I guess there is just way too much to do in no time, that everything is a priority at this point.
Cheers,
Its similar to the war on terrorism. But more/less effective... hard to say.
Anyway, any performance patch is very welcome. I completely understand that MANY other tweaks are needed (The dev journals seem to indicate that ai tweaks won't happy this patch as brad is OOT - they did say they are cleaning code to make things easier for Brad to update - if you code, you know this a huge help). If slowdown ends, I start to love this game again... I assume you experience slowdown now, right...
