What to do? I have just recieved this issue this morning and there apparently is no patch?
No one is visitored (we only revoke posting privileges) by the moderation team based on a single factor alone.
1) You experienced the tampered-exe error, even after a clean reinstall.
2) You posted a debug.err file indicating no version data--that is, the game was not installed or updated via Impulse or a retail disc.
3) A query of the system indicated you have no registrations on the account you were posting under--for Elemental or any other products.
If you have another account with all your registrations on it and 1) and 2) were some sort of freak coincidence, please point it out and we will gladly restore your posting privileges with our apologies. Posting revocations are only being placed if the user also fails a registration check first, to ensure that no legitimate customers are accidentally visitored.
As the person who let this Out of Memory "fix" out, I must first apologize to Stardock for causing this mess.
Its not really checking for pirated copies of the game. The game shipped with multiplayer disabled so the out of memory fix which I made was not an issue. As multiplayer was being prepared they needed to make sure people could not cheat online. If the game didn't check itself out, it would be real easy to cheat online.
Do you cry when you are required to use PunkBuster or similar anti cheating measures when playing online, or do you enjoy the game more knowing the chance of your opponents cheating is reduced?This has absolutely nothing to do with DRM.
I think rather than jumping through even a single hoop at this point, I'll just be getting my refund.
Given everything wrong that has happened with this game launch, this kind of "mistake" is just the last straw.

The issue as it stands for those who didn't read every post:
Many users are having issues with near constant crashes, issues that were "fixed" by a user created patch. That patch no longer works, as it is not official and the game appears to check for compatibility with official updates. Stardock has stated that they are going to try to make it so that future updates are compatible with the user created one so that this doesn't happen in the future.
You have at that point an easy option to remedy the situation.
1. Roll the clock on your pc back a week (technically any time before 09/01/10). The (monthly?) compatibility check won't activate and thus your game should work until patch 1.07 comes out, SD stated that should be today or tomorrow.
I understand that many users are frustrated by this but c'mon guys, let's try to be civil about it. The workaround (provided it works, I'm at work and cannot verify) is stupidly easy and takes all of 10 seconds tops to perform.

"Fixing" my system date isn't going to get my 10 year old forum account back. Nor the goodwill that went along with it's demise.
Far better to just get the user created fan patch for MoM and play a WORKING game that actually has something to it. Not just a barebone framework that will be "great" in 6 months or whenever the magic patch comes that fleshes out all the missing and broken parts of the game.

I experience the OOM crash fairly often (one thing I notice is that saving instigates it, especially if I'm starting to see stuttering then save, but also saving after playing for 10 minutes with no noticeable stuttering) and the 'uncheck localized date' trick didn't help. I haven't tried your fix yet but will pretty soon (will see first in 1.07 fixes this).
Heck, SD should give you a free copy of the game for this.

No, DRM would be if it demanded you proved you had the right to modify or run the executable before hand. Not running a modified executable however is standard practice for multiplayer games. In fact, modifying the executable is often a good way to stop it working even without any consistency checking in the app, however I admit I may be overly cynical in this regard as a several year stint in technical support leads me to the belief the average user shouldn't be given anything more complicated than an abacus. And even then you want to glue the beads down.

If Stardock is going to act like one of the big boys, there going to start getting treated like them. Fact is, if Blizzard put a game out in this state, they'd have a class action lawsuit going.

I've played every iteration of World of Warcraft (for good or ill) and been involved with the game since the dwarf alpha (10/2003). There have been plenty of times where I've questioned design choices, but at it's worst, most unpolished state it was leagues ahead of where Elemental is now. I got to play for a bit over a YEAR in the various alpha and beta cycles, which existed to get rid of bugs, fix interface issues and build an actual framework. Stardock appears to have stopped just into the first beta as most of the prior parts that were missing wide swaths of content were nothing more than alphas.
The Gamer's Bill of Rights is a fraud. This is pure and simple DRM, no matter how you package it.

Granted they don't HAVE to allow any of us to post here, but this really shines a pretty painfully bright light on the Gamer's Bill of Rights. It's just so much PR flak.

Try restarting the thread from the beginning and pay attention to what as been said, the problem with the Large awareness patch is present for legit copyes too. He's probably over reacting, but come on, a 10 yrs account? I can understand his rage, I just hope after some hours he'll think again about it...

Someone AFTER the OP (who was also not me) admitted to it. I was simply foolish enough to think that Stardock would help with my legitimate concern after patching with the memory fix. If that's enough to have my posting rights revoked, I guess Stardock has a MUCH higher standard of what's a loyal customer than I do.
Just cause he says its true doesn't mean it is. I can claim to be President Obama right here, right now, doesn't make it true. If I'd known that I was in the running for a forum ban, I surely would have talked to support to have it tied to my original forum account or something along those lines. I guess chalk it up to the "vanity" of having an account in the 45k range tied to an email that stopped existing about 8 years ago.
