Anyone know why it's taking so long? Thought it was supposed to be late last week? My friends and I are itching to play.
On a side note: Does the MP aspect of games like this increase the longevity?
I heard it is supposed to be ready sometime this week.
If its not I might ask for a refund. Even the single player games seems completely bug ridden and unfinished. I'd almost rather wait 4 months and re-purchase once they have the game finished.
Supposed to be this week. It was always "next week" when they were talking, which was last week.
The team is focusing on the changes in single player which some have to be ported to the multiplayer client.
After the launch of Demigod, the team is trying to be very careful with how MP gets unveiled.
The multiplayer version has a different tech tree than the single player version as well.
Does that mean not this week?
i dont mean to discredit the multiplayer's importance (i intend to participate myself), but i for one thing the portion of the game that is currently available should be the primary focus of attention... for the time being...
I don't mind if its just as unfinished as the single player(well, I do mind, but that is another topic), but it should still be included. When I bought the game it said it includes multiplayer. Yet here we are without it.
If only Stardock included Hotseat OR PBEM OR LAN for multiplayer gaming some of us could be playing, but the only multiplayer is WAN which isn't working. It's like buying tickets for entering Disneyworld and then finding all the rides are closed... but you're allowed to shop at the stores.
From the above Stardock post, it would seem MP is taking a back seat. So I don't expect it this week.
It's unfortunate, because the box said up to 16 players on MP.
False advertisement claim?
if you want money back they'll give it to you. stardock has never been one to turn down refunds
no actually at first they were not going to implement MP .. It was at the beta testers insistence that it made it in.. However the very early MP was allegedly not fun.. so it took a different direction.. if you search you will find posts on this subject (admittedly it will take some searching because of the many threads with MP in them).. So if it takes time its as was said because they want to at least get something both fun and viable out..
MP = Missing Part, so it's normal.
check out bullet point 8
The game is advertised as having MP, and it does not, and apparently the 'next week' promise (which is this week) won't be met. Looking at BoogieBac's list, and making a few reasonable assumptions, MP is likely quite a few 'next weeks' off...
Edited to add: I suppose one could argue that the Key Features promises SP _or_ MP, not both, and since we have SP then that promise is fulfilled...
Hmm yup I see bullet point 8 and since it does not specify MP on launch how can it be false? do not misunderstand me I want mp in as soon as possible myself.. Its just that anyone who has been hanging around these boards or bothered to check before buying the game had a pretty good idea MP was not going to make launch and then that early release stuff happened further stressing it..
oh and I also think that the current issues facing the Stardock staff does make me fear it may yet be a while for MP.. Sadly
Key features are usually implied with launch. It would like launching the game without graphics.
I've asked for a refund. If they give it to me, I'll repurchase in 3 - 4 months if the game state sounds okay(and has multiplayer). If not I think I'll keep steam as my main source of games and be pretty disappointed in stardock.
Since I downloaded from this website..where would I go to even ask for a refund?
Email sales@stardock.com.
I might have to ask for a refund if they are going to modify the game to an extent that when I play MP, its a different game. Surely if the tech tree requires a change in order for it to be fun in multiplayer, then its flawed from the beginning and there is something wrong with it in SP. There shouldn't be a difference between SP and MP, apart from playing against the AI to playing against some mates online.
this concerns me too. I don't know what they'd have to change because it would not be good in MP.
Keep in mind, even if/when they do get MP, there may be no tactical battles. TBs are THE reason we play games like this. That's why we found cities; build buildings; tech up; and raise armies. You hope to have many climactic, epic battles throughout the game. A pop-up box instead? No thanks.
Imagine, you go to see Lord of the Rings, and just before the battle sceens, you suddenly hear elevator music and text on the screen reading: "Frodo got the ring into the volcano, -1 HP due to loss of finger". And now, back to our show. . .
And here's more I'm paranoid about: Is it going to have simultanios turns (like Age of Wonders & Civ)? You better bring a book to read or have a movie ready to watch during those other 15 peoples turns otherwise.
Anyway, So many questions. I guess we will see soon enough *munches popcorn and stares at the update tab on the Elemental menu screen*
they said they are going to put them in, they did announce that. they weren't going to but beta players persuaded them
I'm willing to bet they don't want to put something up that is not good, after the last couple weeks. I'm not sure how I myselft feel about multiplayer, it will be neat to have it(and yes they have to) but for me I'm not sure how much I would use it.
"they said they are going to put them"
All I heard so far is that there would be no tactical battles, then, that there's "going" to be TB be in MP. I never once read that there "are" tactical battles in MP. That's why I'm so concerened. "Going" could mean "in several months" for all we know. Again, I guess we will see soon enough.
To be honest, the tactical battles didn't really look very interesting anyway. I played a few at the start and pretty much hit auto-resolve for the rest.
You are aware that Starcraft 2 has very different rules, units, etc. for single player vs. multiplayer right?
I recall from the beta that they said that MP would not have quests or tactical battles because of balance and time between turns respectively. I've also read that they were talked into having tactical battle in a future update as an option because so many people were interested in playing it non competitively.
